More about the Artist : Smt.Vrinda Mundkur has gained recognition as a gifted and versatile vocalist of Hindustani Classical Music. She is endowed with a mellifluous voice, a keen aesthetic sense and a charming stage presence. Her performances build an instant rapport with audiences.
She has undergone rigorous and extensive training in the style of Khayal singing from well-known masters of the Kirana and Agra-Atrauli gharana such as Pandit Firoz Dastur, Pandit Batuk Dewanji and Pandit Babanrao Haldankar, the eminent composer and scholar musician of the Agra-Atrauli gharana. She has also taken intensive training from Ustad Aslam Khan Saheb of the Agra Atrauli Khurja gharana. She has imbibed the intricacies of both popular and rare ragas.
With a rich repertoire both in Raga Sangit and the ornamental style of Thumri, Dadra, Chaiti, Hori, Kajri, Jhoola in which she was groomed by Smt.Shobha Gurtu and Pandit Batuk Dewanji, one can experience in her music, an intensity of emotion, imagination and spontaneity. With excellent command over tonal exposition, soulful Alaap and Crystal clear Taans, Vrinda brings out the true essence and mood of the Raga.
Vrinda Mundkur has rendered several concerts in India, Europe and USA. She has been recorded for the Archives of the Samvad-Ford Foundation. She is a regular performer and a graded artist of All India Radio Mumbai and Television. She has several CDs to her credit. She has also given Lecture Demonstrations at L & T , HUL, Somaiya College and several other institutions. She has been bestowed upon the Dagar Gharana Award by His Excellency Arvind Singh Mewad of the Mewad Foundation - Udaipur.
