Damm. I like to get some more Laurel hedging. (Previous owners left me with 30ft high Laurel trees. Which have since pruned down back) But I am on the Downs, upon Chalk. So I don't understand the statement that they do no like Chalk ? - I was going to get some more Laurel, but maybe can I get 4t "Portuguese Laurel" easily ?

Cyanide and other toxic fumes from cherry laurel trees are affecting mental health and respiratory, hairloss in men, they plant it in council areas, not affluent areas, the NHS won't talk about it, cyanide from cherry laurel and carbon dioxide from cars kill people and affects the nervous system

the bark on mine are black and pleasent looking and i think it is a hardwood = very good for firewood, and i have a question of any potential for the wood being poisonous and should it be harvested in winter so it does not contain the sap or whatever, the thick branches are small enough that it does not require splitting to fit in a fireplace/cookstove
