Why always short pips fault? When you master short pips it’s more effective when you master long pips in pro level. There’s still room to improve and it’s definitely not because of his equipment and btw he played with short pips from the beginning so no need to change that

Because Ma Te was so successful? Has he ever won anything important? Hou Yingchao plays short pips as well and had a far more successful career compared to Ma Te ;)

@speedytabletennis6985 Hou Yingchao has never been able to beat as many high caliber players as Ma Te has. Just because Hou won against some kids in 2019 and won the CTTC in 2000 during the celluloid era, doesn't mean he was ever a more lethal player overall.

@sunyang636 I've never seen a short pips chopper be as effective as the best long pips choppers. Wang Jian Jun learned the rpb late, but he still made the change. Long pips are probably easier to learn late for most than short pips, as opposed to vice-versa. I'm sure if Sun practiced using them for a little while, he could easily master them since he's used to controlling with a less controlled rubber. I understand he started with short pips to get more variation, but I don't think this benefit outweighs the control and consistency from the long. It was worth starting the experiment in the polyball era to see if a new breed of chopper can be made, but perhaps this experiment has shown to be a failure. Maybe a rubber like p3av or fl3 would be the better option.

@@noah7477 if you come from China you will know China better. No one will change the type of rubber that one is playing from the beginning. Second there are only people who wants to change from LP to SP. Ma Te tried that but he failed because he is playing LP his whole life. It’s true that SP is harder to master that’s also why SP choppers have a later prime e.g Han Ying, Hou Yingchao, Li Qian, Ding Song. But the limit of SP is much higher once you master it you can control the game actively with spin variations and better attacks. Hu Dongshen is a LP player but he wasn’t successful at all in his WTT tournament. It’s more a matter of skill and not a the rubber. As a Hu Dongshen fan I could say if he used short pips from the beginning he could be much better because the spin of LP is dead. The opponent can close his eyes knowing what spin is inside especially at higher levels. I know about Chinese table tennis more than you do and their philosophy and youth team. We have Li Tianyang, Li Lutong, Sun Long and another chopper from Sichuan who joined the national team this year through Chinese Youth National Championships. And 3 of them use short pips. Yeah because it’s the future but since SP chopping has a shorter history than LP chopping it needs time to develop just like electric cars need more development but their limit are definitely higher than gasoline cars. We only have Ding Song and Hou Yingchao who had this style so it’s difficult to get more advices from these players. The path for SP is now difficult because it’s in a development phase for modern chopping but Sun Yang and etc. will set a bridge for the next SP choppers so this style can be thoroughly researched and find it’s way for modern chopping in table tennis which will contain more attack. Joo Saehyuk even says in a very recent video from Adam Bobrow that he believes if you want to be a world class choppers you need to use inverted rubbers on both sides. A few years ago he said SP is the future of chopping. The times are changing, Ruben Filus is also nearly forty, the time has changed you cannot only stuck at the history just because LP choppers are historically better. Just like the modern style. Before Zhang Jike there was not really Chiquita flick and over table backhand loop. No one could imagine that the attacking will change so much. Waldner was successful but so was Zhang Jike and both had completely differently styles while Zhang Jike set a bridge for so many players after him. You have to set up a bridge for the future and develop a modern style that could be adapted to the current ball and situation. I believe in Sun Yang and SP chopping and I’m sure that many do. I believe it’s the future and so does the Chinese National Youth Team.

From youth to senior is a very difficult step especially for a chopper. He is still 16 and he needs to adapt and gain more experience. Give him more time

@@malongsserve4735 No, I think SP fits him very well he does spin variations which allows him more chances to attack. Ma Te is good because he has a variety of shots plus twiddling. Hu Dongshen uses long pips and people also only target his backhand because with LP it’s always the same spin. Also Sun Yangs backhand punch with short pips is also outstanding.
