"Du må ikke sove!" / "You mustn't sleep!" - Siddis Brass 2021 - Oslo Brass Band
----------------------- PROGRAM ---------------------------------
1. Sing Sing Sing - Louis Prima/Benny Goodman, arr. A. Sørheim
2. La Foule - Ángel Cabral/Edith Piaf, arr. A. Sørheim
Solist: Eirik Hermundstad Sanner (Euphonium)
3. Scherzo fra Symfoni No. 10 - Dimitri Shostakovich, arr. A. Duncan
4. Song for Hope - Peter Meechan
Solister: Kristoffer Kregnes, Henrik Falang, Anders Sørheim (Trompet/kornett)
5. Peterloo Overture - Malcolm Arnold, arr. A. Duncan
---------------- ENGLISH VERSION ------------------------------
The programme Oslo Brass Band presented at Siddis Brass in 2021 was given the title “You mustn’t sleep!”, and was inspired by Arnulf Øverland’s eponymous poem published in 1937. Similar to the poem, the music portrays the uneasy feeling many Europeans experienced during the advance of nationalism in the 1930s, and what proceeded.
But it also portrays the hope that never vanished, even in the darkest hour of second world war, and the courage and strength of those who rose up to fight from the thousands of Norwegian homes.
“You shouldn’t tolerate so honestly well
the injustice that doesn’t harm yourself,
I shout with my very last breath,
You are not to hide and forget”
