Hi Thailand Travel Loving TH-camrs! I also love Thailand, and when I had the chance to return to Thailand in August 2022, I wanted to video as much as I could of the trip. This channel is home to the videos of that amazing time I had, and I hope my videos can show you how to do things, what and how to see them - so YOU can also experience this AMAZING place!
Cheers,
Dan.

RAMA 8 BRIDGE & RAMA 8 CAFE BANGKOK
The Rama VIII Bridge is a striking sight you see when you have a view over Bangkok, with its 160m tall inverted Y pylon and cable stays supporting the bridge across the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok.
I have seen the bridge on so many vista’s when I have looked out over Bangkok, I have been driven over it at times and for years said to myself “I should come and walk over this one day.” I love the look of the bridge and its height gives is such a commanding presence. I finally did this in May 2024.
It was so enjoyable just walking across the bridge, soaking it all in and filming and photographing as I walked the span of the bridge across the Chao Phraya. After completing the bridge phase I the set out on the ‘must do’ when you visit the bridge and found my way to the simply stunning and wonderful Rama 8 Café on the bank of the Chao Phraya River.
This Rama VIII Bridge might not be high on everyone’s things to do in Bangkok, but honestly, if you have been to Bangkok on a few occasions and want something different to do, this is a wonderful little 2 - 3 hour self tour!
How to get there: For me I started at Sathorn Pier and caught a Chao Phraya River Ferry to Thewet Pier, which was excellent as the Ferry going underneath the bridge for a different view! I the walked West from the Pier along Krung Kasem Road to Samsen Road, turning right and walking South to Bang Khun Phrom Intersection with the Rama VIII Bridge on ramp above you, then simply follow the road West along the underneath of the bridge to the stairs that take you up and onto the bridge.
The Rama 8 Café is a short walk from the base of the bridge on the Western side of the river. You will see a little entrance gateway with some flags and there will even be a sign with Rama 8 Café. Simply walk - respectfully, through this little community following the main path and signs and after about 100m you will come across the entrance to the Café gardens.

DAN'S THAIARY - SOME OF MY FAVOURITE THAILAND PHOTOS
มุมมอง 542 หลายเดือนก่อน
First things first...I am a complete amateur photographer! Having said that, I love taking photos! Until the last couple of Thailand trips I was simply a point and shoot on auto settings type photographer. I am at least now trying to learn manual setting photographer. Filming with GoPRO's etc. is something completely new to me, that I didn't do for the first time until my 2022 trip to Thailand....
CHIANG MAI TO BANGKOK TRAIN FIRST CLASS SLEEPER
มุมมอง 872 หลายเดือนก่อน
th-cam.com/channels/MR2xxxVwajPoeDzmleK4CQ.html This is a different and fun way to transfer between Chiang Mai and Bangkok opposed to just going to the airport and flying, which although quicker, has no where near the charm, fun and memory building as catching the overnight train! This was the second time I have done this trip now, and it is one I am keen to do again next time, so I think that ...

I’m in Koh Samui in December. Can you share the link.
This is a great place.. We'll be there in one week !!! Yahoo!!! While in Mae Hong Son check out the reverse glass paintings in Wat Jong Klang. Nice pictures and tour, you guys really captured the place. Got to stay in the Angela and Brad suite.
Hi. Thank you for watching and thank-you for the lovely comment. Fern Resort is stunning! I stayed there on my 2022 trip and was really keen to take Jak and show her. I had made a previous Fern Resort video from 2022, and I never mentioned that to the staff at check in or anything, but Jak and I got a free upgrade to the Angelina and Brad suite. You can be lucky sometimes! I will be sure to check out Wat Jong Klang. 🙏

Fantastic effort guys. I was puffing with you both
Hahaha, that's so cool, and yep the climb got us puffing, but WOW - once you get to the top! Thank you so much for watching. Have you been to Thailand or planning a first trip maybe?
@dansthaiary Hi Dan I first went to Thailand in 1987. Then a couple of times in the late nineties and early 2000s. Pretty much every year since 2017. Like you we like to explore the whole country. In 2018 we did 4500kms around Thailand. We are always looking for new inspiration. Well done to both of you.

Doing research for what hotel to stay in and this video is perfect. Finally someone who showed how decently sized the pool is. It looks small in pictures. This is really helpful.
Thank you for watching the video Lito, I really appreciate it. The pool is great, I have stayed at Siam@Siam on a few occasions now. I go back because it is great, and only a short walk to MBK and National Stadium BTS Station. Cheers, Dan. 👍
@@dansthaiary multiple stays is a very encouraging sign. Thank you for adding that fact 😉 I am also highly leaning towards Siam@Siam because of it’s great location and I feel like it would be a unique way to spend a honeymoon in a big city.

Back in 1991 that whole area at the beach end of the hotel used to be where reception and breakfast was. They were still building the new reception and upstairs wing area at the other end when we first stayed there and had just opened the big pool at the OTOP market end. Patong was lot quieter then but still heaps of fun. The first gulf war had just ended and there was a U.S. navy carrier in town and a hell of a lot of sailors (male & female) on R & R. I thought they might be a problem but wherever we went they were respectful, polite and a lot of fun. Been back many times since.
Hi Peter, thanks for watching. We first stayed there on our first Thailand trip in 2007. I wish I had of seen Patong and the Merlin in 1991, would have been very different!! Cheers, Dan. 👍
Great video. Also thinking about driving from Krabi to Samui so this is really useful thanks
Thank you for watching and so pleased you enjoyed the video. I thoroughly enjoyed that drive, a few great things to see along the way, and breaking the drive into two parts with a two night stop to take in Khao Sok was fantastic. Let me know how your trip goes. Cheers, Dan. 👍
Hi we are considering to book this hotel in December, but not sure if renovation will be finished by that time. When did you take the video?
Video was filmed in August 2023, it is re opening under a new name as far as I understand it is re opening on December 10th 2023 (of course this could change) and it is not going to be named the Patong Merlin anymore but rather the 'Courtyard by Marriott Phuket', Patong Beach. If you stay there, please leave a comment and let me know what you think. Cheers and have a wonderful time in Phuket! Dan.
@@dansthaiary thanks for the reply, sure will do so, are you on insta? I am a bit more active there then in TH-cam

So sacred and optimistic! Bright and optimistic colors are excellent for spiritual temples because one of the truths of spirituality is that when for we example connect with Lord Buddha, we connect with abundance and power: within the Buddha realm, there is great cause for optimism and cheer. At Thai funerals, families of merit invite and pay Buddhist monks to chant; the village or town gathers as we did in Phetchaburi after a tragic motorcycle accident, and you see bright colors, in this case Christmas lights, because they know that with the good Karma they stored and secured for this young woman(I had nothing to do with it,) she would be favorably reincarnated by the powers of Buddha and the Buddhist spirits at his service.
Small chili but very spicy ha ha, nice try😂👍
Sure was! You have to try things in incredible Thailand. Thanks for watching. Dan.🙏
