Learn guitar for well-being. Playing really is good for you ;)
My name is Ian Dyball. I have been a professional guitarist and guitar teacher all my working life and have worked with internationally recognised musicians, including Phil Collins. My own Ph.D. research on 'the performance mind' led me to develop 'guitar as therapy' and I currently work with students of all ages and abilities. In honesty I don't know how this channel will unfold, or precisely what direction it will take, but I have nothing to sell! I simply want to learn from you as I teach (And, because I am passionate about philosophy, and relish a debate, there may be a rant or two mixed in with the varied tuition)!
Whether you are striving for musical excellence (and 100's of my students have become industry professionals), or simply want to feel good about your playing, please do subscribe. Learn from me, and with me ;)

Learn to play guitar fast Best new guitar channel 2024. Not all guitar teachers are the same! Intro:
I have one of these, also was a little annoyed by the first issue. I personally found that using an angled cable alleviates a little bit of this issue. However positive grid tells people to lay it down on the rubber backing like you did and this can actually help depending on the surface its placed on to increase sound and bass. the change is probably neglegable, I've never really tested it too much because my favorite ways to run it are connected to my strap and then using a short little patch cable to connect it to my guitar and it works amazingly and makes the whole guitar and amp like one unit. I've also found that if you have a tripod with a clamping phone mount you can actually clamp the phone mount on the back of the spark go and adjust it to the perfect position to face you so you can really get a more full range of the tone cominng out of that tiny speaker because since it is still a small speaker at the end of the day every little bit helps. But at that point you could probably just run the headphone out into a sound system of your choice and get a much better sound anyway. but food for thought nonetheless.
Thank you sir. The channel deserves many more subscribers… nice guitar collection too.
Very solid solo cover excellent!
Thank you ;) Not many people see my videos and even fewer take the trouble to leave a positive comment. It really is appreciated ;)

The Spark GO is a FIRE HAZZARD. I have had THREE of them and EACH ONE is, basically, a timebomb! The batteries are flat-out DANGEROUS. Customer Service is SHIT !!!
I've not experienced that but it doesn't sound good! Thank you for taking the trouble to share.
@@IMDguitar 3 of them melted at the input while charging. One of them melted the cable. If you smell burning plastic get to it fast. In two different buildings and 3 different outlets. DO NOT leave the house while charging...please.
happened to me, so I put it on my amp and run the cord under the handle and then plug it in, problem solved, also, run my strap into the handle of the spark, and then I can play unfettered, unburdend by what has been because today is the time to do what we have done everyday because today is today and tomorrow is tomorrow and will become yesterday....lol, jk
I love a good solution...any day of the week ;P Happy new year to you ;)

That's why you're meant to put it on its back , Rubber base.!
@@revamp777 that does seem sensible, but in all the manufacturer’s own videos it is standing the other way…on it’s four tiny feet! (I was just trying to help people not have it fall on the floor) Thanks for watching and commenting ;)
Good vid. I was wondering about the cable issue and it's even worse than I thought.
Thank you for the positive comment on the video ;) Yes, I guess there are bigger problems to have...but the cable issue was annoying before I learned to cope!! ;P
Just use a wireless. It is a design flaw for sure. They should have put a trapezoid design on the bottom for stability. I use a wireless, seems to work fine. It is kinda of annoying for it fall like that 100 percent agree.
Ah...thank you! Yes, you are right about the wireless system. I know they are cheap now. I just haven't managed to get one yet (!) Still, it is good to hear that someone else has/had the same problem. Thank you again for taking the trouble to comment. Enjoy your music ;)
Do happen to recall what EQ settings you used when you played this? You seem to have found the perfect connection between an electric and acoustic tone. It’s clear you are playing on an electric guitar, but your low E string doesn’t over power with too much bass. I can’t seem to find that in my set up. Much of it doesn’t have to do with EQ either but just wanted to see if you recall so I can compare. I’m playing on a 1981 Burny FLG-90 Les Paul and using both pickups with the neck volume at 3 and the bridge at 1.5.
Thank you for the compliment. I'm sorry that I can't give precise details of tone. All I can say is that I prefer the middle position for clean on twin pick-up guitars (and between neck and middle pick-ups on most three pick-up guitars). I also tend to add a slight delay in the mix. (I am actually not as 'active' in tone creation as I should be)! Thank you again...and good luck with your music ;)
I agree with you sir. I usually practice guitar between 6 to 8 hours a day, religiously. I purchased the DX-749 in hopes that it would be an alternative to sitting on my bed. I lasted about 10 minutes on It. It became impossible to focus on my guitar because I was so preoccupied with trying to find a comfortable position. A complete waste of time and money...
Yes...they are poorly designed. Good luck with finding a good stool/chair. Let me know if you do find one! Thank you for taking the trouble to comment and good luck with all your music practice ;)
A big problem I noticed is that 8 times out of 10 the amp doesn't connect to my phone via Bluetooth
Sorry to hear that. I can't comment too much because, other than programming the initial four sounds, I haven't tried connecting. It just does the job I need it to do. However, I understand that I'm missing out on a lot of functionality and I would be annoyed if I wanted to connect and it wouldn't!! Thanks for taking the trouble to comment and good luck with the connection problem
Hi Ian. I totally agree that if you are forced to wear ear protection at gigs the band is obviously too load and in my opinion I feel they are often covering up for their inadequate musicianship. I used to play at clubs in a duet where we were often asked by members of the audience to turn up the volume. Why because they were probably half deaf from listening to very loud music for too long. We played at our comfortable volume because we enjoyed what we played and liked to listen to ourselves playing it. Sadly now though I have tinnitus but mine was gained following an ear infection so I know what it feels like to have the dreaded constant hiss which can't be turned off. Thanks for the great inspirational videos.
Thank you for commenting. Sorry about your tinnitus. Keep taking care of your ears because mine is getting worse. I think that, once the auditory system is compromised, it is easier for it to be damaged further. (That's just my experience). Please keep in touch because I do intend further involvement on this subject. Thanks again for taking the trouble to comment and good luck with your music, and hearing! ;)
One thing I do is route the cable through the loop on the left and then plug it from behind the thing, and it helps with the stability. Also there's another crackle that happens with hotter pickups, and there's a setting in the app to enable high z (impedance) so it lowers the input gain and gets rid of most of the unwanted noise
Yes...thank you. The 'passing through the loop' certainly helps. And I have never really delved too deeply into the settings (I only use the amp for occasional school teaching) but it's a good tip and I will look into the impedance switching ...thank you for watching the video and for taking the trouble to comment ;)
Thanks for the review. The chair looks good but isn't practical. What Fender amp do you have?
I still have the chairs and don't like them at all! The Fender amp is an old 'Princeton chorus'. I've not really used it for years but I do remember (!) that it has a great clean sound ;) Thank you for taking the trouble to comment...much appreciated ;)
Well played, I like the guitar.
Thank you! The guitar is a Yamaha 'Silent' guitar...they are great for practice and travel but can also sound great! Thank you again - Ian

🤔… I’m just getting started with guitar and was immediately drawn to this amp so that I can practice anywhere. I bought wireless adapter as well. Seemed like the obvious way to go.

Seems there were more issues with your guitar than the amp
My God you play amazing and I like that you share everything you know in a proper way. Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for your comment...As a small channel, my videos do get 'buried' very quickly, so not a lot of people see them...and even fewer take the time to comment. Every positive comment is a great encouragement. Thank you...I am very glad you liked the video. ;)
There should be a dB limit to a gig with warnings ir complimentary ear plugs because there is already curfews on sound in some places.
I absolutely agree. Nobody should unwittingly have their senses damaged by art or entertainment. (There is much more to be said on the subject). Thank you for taking the trouble to comment. All the best - Ian
I usually let it lie flat on the ground. it's sound more nature😂
I agree with you. The sound seems to spread better with it laying flat (and obviously it is more stable)! Positive Grid do always shoe the Go standing up though (and it has four tiny 'feet'). Thank you for taking the time to comment...much appreciated ;)
Went to a gig a year ago, got tinnitus and hyperacusis, it freaked me out! You could argue that I should have worn ear defenders and maybe stood in a different place but I also believe the band had a responsibility to it's audience, my band playing career is now over just for watching an hour of live music! I suggest that anyone in my situation please check out Julian Cowan Hill, this guy is amazing and is my saviour, I really don't know where I would be without him and the support of my beautiful wife, I still have tinnitus but am very positive about my recovery!
I am sorry to learn about your experience. As I sit here replying I have a very loud ringing in my ears and can easily sympathise. I believe that you are right to consider that the musicians should bear a responsibility and this is something to be further addressed. Thank you so much for taking the trouble to comment. Not many people get to see my videos at the moment but I do want to continue 'probing'. Thank you also for sharing information on Julian Cowan Hill. I have bookmarked him. Please consider subscribing to my channel to stay connected (I do not make any money from TH-cam). Tinnitus is an 'attention' based symptom and I have conducted research on aspects of 'mind' that are related. Thank you again. All the best - Ian
the same happend to me two years ago.
Firstly, thanks for making the video. Highlighted a couple of things. Useful and appreciated. Thank you. But...maaaate. You said at the beginning it would be a short little video and you should have been right. 9 minutes to cover 2 problems, one of which is not a Spark problem. Could have done this in 2 minutes and you'd have had an extra 7 minutes in your life to play guitar, drink some wine, chat with the missus, watch the sunset, whatever.
Thank you for commenting. Yes, sorry about the length of video. It was unscripted and merely meant to help people not make the mistakes I did (I don't make any money from TH-cam). Thank you again for taking the time to comment.

I got mine through going to have my ear irrigated. It was blocked with wax, and the bimbo turned it up high. I've lost hearing and have permanent tinnitus. She's got away with it. It's a very very dangerous practice which I wasn't aware of.
That sounds terrible. I hadn't heard of that kind of experience before. I will consider that aspect of 'Tinnitus cause' when I get around to producing the website. I do have more to say on the subject (!) Thank you so much for watching and for taking the trouble to comment. All the best - Ian
@@IMDguitar thanks Ian. I stumbled across your channel I presume because I've been watching tinnitus videos and the algorithm popped you up. I just think it's something a lot of people are unaware of. It's gutting when you've always looked after your ears too. I think gigs are out for me until I can get custom ear plugs made. Noise seems to aggravate it...
@@emmas3716 if you're quite new to tinnitus you will be very aware of it (a bit like living next to a noisy road after years of living in a quiet cul-de-sac)! It'll get easier to cope with. I recently tried having custom ear plugs made but that didn't turn out too well ..(long story ...ha) look after those ears ;P
@@IMDguitar oh really why did they not work?
@@emmas3716 they were from ACS but, after having the fitting, I waited for ages and, when they arrived only one would go in my ear. They asked me to send them both back. They shaved some off one but then only sent that one back. Eventually I got the other one back at which time neither of them fitted! Was all a bit of a waste of time and money unfortunately :S
Thank you!! It might be helpful to have the tab for the exercise, just to be sure I’m playing it correctly. For example, I thought that you were using your second finger as well until you brought up the Natural Minor scale. Just a suggestion…!
Hi, the tablature is provided at the start of the exercise video close-up. It might be hard to see on small devices and would need people to pause the video and maybe zoom in. In longer videos I do provide separate tab; diagrams etc. and I give a spoken 'walk-through' of everything necessary. However, my main concern with these mini-exercises is to keep the videos short. (Apart from anything else it does mean that I can produce more of them!). I'm still learning though and trying to adapt all my teaching to this online method...thank you so much for taking the time to comment. It is much appreciated and will help me improve ;)
@@IMDguitar I think what threw me was the size of the tab when viewing on a phone. It didn’t catch my eye. Cheers!
@@SATXbassplayer I might try putting the tab in these exercises as a separate 'section'. ...Anyway, thanks again for commenting. It is all useful feedback ;)
@@IMDguitar I don’t even play guitar anymore. I play bass. But your quick hit video was instructive and valuable
Thank you. I play/teach bass too. There is a lot that is transferable from guitar to bass, and vice versa. Most obviously with this type of riff etc. : th-cam.com/video/1qHBMlN8V3k/w-d-xo.htmlsi=QruB6dLBAslgZ8Nk Thank you again for the input and I hope you continue to get much enjoyment from your music ;)
I went to a store, tried 15 seats (guitar stools, drum seats etc). and those Fender ones are the worst. they are uncomfortable. the padding sinks. theres no support. I find you brave to like it. cause I've tried it and it was so shit. maybe you're built different. but for my physic. its a no. i wouldve made a mistake had I not tried it in stores.
I'd love to try that store! Yes, I get what you are saying about comfort. For me, it is more important to have the foot rest in a good position and I still think the Fender stool wins over the Quiklok. I don't know about all those others! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment ;)
@@IMDguitar what type of songs do you play lately? i play pop songs.
Hi, I have always played in rock bands; I teach London College of Music grades in modern guitar playing (which lends towards Jazz) and just recently I have played a lot of acoustic (both steel-strung and classical) ...so I guess I am a bit of a jack or all trades ..ha I pretty much like any music that I consider to be played well! And 'pop' is obviously popular for a reason ..ha Keep enjoying ;)

Lay it down, should be doing that anyway, sounds way better. Or get a right angle cord. I picked up one today to use as a fx box. You can change the output to mono and jack it into a real amp, 50,000 tone marshal?? Anyone?
yep, laying it down does make sense, but all the 'Positive Grid' promo videos shows it standing upright (...it has four dimple feet!) so I was just trying to stop other people doing what I did ;P It is a great little practice amp though ;) Thank you for watching and taking the trouble to comment...much appreciated ;)
