The latest official dictionary is called Kamus Dewan Perdana., 2021, 1st edition of a very comprehensive master-piece, weighing 3.8 kg. with plenty of exemplary sentences. For the moment it has 120000 words and is growing... mainly in digital form. The corpus in the digital Malay literature is extremely large, combined with inputs from the 3 Malay speaking nations.... around 300 million native speakers.
Thank you for sharing such detailed information about the Kamus Dewan Perdana! It's impressive to see how it encompasses such a vast amount of language resources for Malay speakers.
Even the numerous new terms absorbed from loan words (mainly English nowadays) are pronounced as they are spelled Eg structure (struktur), mind (minda), product (produk) function (fungsi), initiative (inisiatif), appreciative (apresiatif), Revolution (revolusi),... Thousands of them. Any new terms that come out from the blues can be instantly coined in BM according to a predetermined guidelines regulated by DBP, and will be standardised in the official dictionary (kamus dewan). A common spelling system has been agreed upon in 1972 between the big players, Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei.
Thank you for sharing such a detailed comment! It's always great to see viewers engage with the topic. Your insights really contribute to the discussion about language evolution in our region!
The last vowel A at the end of a word is in fact better pronounced as A for a standard BM (Baku), not E. That E sound is more for the dialects of Selangor, Johor, Malacca n Terengganu. Klate n N9 pronounce as O. Northern Malaysia, (Penang, Perlis,Kedah,Perak),Sarawak n Sabah pronounce as A. So do the standard Brunei n Indonesian Malay.

Malay Subject Pronouns: I: Saya (formal), Aku (informal) You: Anda (formal), Kamu (informal, singular), Engkau (ancient or poetic) He/She: Dia We: Kita (inclusive, including the listener), Kami (exclusive, not including the listener) You (plural): Kamu semua, Kalian They: Mereka
What about "Engkau" ?
"Thanks for bringing that up! 'Engkau' is definitely an interesting subject, and I appreciate your curiosity!" In some regions or among certain groups, "engkau" might be used more commonly, while in others, it might be replaced by "awak," "kamu," or "anda" depending on the level of formality. "Engkau" is less formal than "awak" and "anda" but more formal or respectful than "kau," which is an even more informal and abbreviated form.

No..steam is kukus
Appreciate your input, always good to have different perspectives. As Malaysia has many parts, so the language they used, is correct in their living location, as in Kuala lampur....
steam=kukus grill=panggang
Thank you for pointing out the correct terms for steam and grill! It's good to learn colloquial. (situation in the restaurant: Ex: Ikan steam, and Ikan bakar are commonly used. So please don't try to use google traslation, they are not so deep into the situation of using.
u can't rebus water but didih air...lol
Thanks for the comment! Boil - Rebus Usage: "Rebus sayur-sayuran sehingga lembut." (Boil the vegetables until tender.) Description: Rebus refers to cooking food in boiling water, which is essential for making soups and boiling eggs.
@@EnglishMalaySchool eerrr u don't get my point of didih and rebus...lol
Steam kukus Grill panggang
Thanks for dropping your comments, but these terms are spoken by local people, if you go to the restaurant. even the translation like what you mean, it is good to learn new things,..
Depends on the context but for water Boil water : Masak air❌ Boil water : Reneh air ✅
Thanks for pointing that out, But "Air Rebus" is "Boiled Water", and normally people say "Air Masak" when they want to drink "plain water", it's always great to learn new things! Don't forget to like and sub, if you are interested in Learning Malay.
