Not my favourite book…I have to say that I didn’t care for the female lead (Emily). What he (Clive) did was not deserving of the bitter acrimony and unforgiveness. Moreover, it wasn’t done against her - it was done to save his mother’s feelings and escape an upsetting situation. If she’s this unforgiving and extreme in her responses now over such a small thing, it doesn’t give me much hope for their future 😢. It wasn’t easy to read and cheer them on for an HEA. I’m glad she admitted to being stubborn and hard-hearted and that she challenged and matched him, but it just didn’t do it for me.

I love the characters and the fact that this book lets you see how people words and attitudes hurts when they are used as put downs to destroy That person’s self worth and self love. This was so great to listen to. It has been great to hear Hugh take a risk straight up. Sometimes these kind of books get so frustrating with both characters overthinking for way too many chapters. I loved this. Simple friendship to love. Very satisfying.

I enjoy Ms. Eliker’s novels and was watching for this one to be posted. I appreciate that she displayed a love story that showed love in the little ways; not as a bundle of lust or giant romantic gestures. I’m not a fan of such Disneyfied love where the prince sweeps in as a hero. It’s a tough job to write about the challenges of being a single parent and dating and it was a daring and challenging effort. However; this story left me feeling down with the never-ending stream of self-doubt, recrimination and rejection. I’m glad Hugh’s self-dignity prevailed and he was brave enough to open up genuine communication. I thought Hugh deserved that and more. It was time for her to take ownership of her own life, make changes and admit her own mistakes. I’m glad she eventually chose to stick it out to be honest and talk it out. In the end, this was a true-to-life emotional roller coaster story. The writing was quality, as always, and I appreciate Ms. Eliker’s willingness to share her talent.
