Fun and Disaster - Christmas Road Trip - Tampa to Toronto, Ontario, Canada - Rambling with Phil
If you've ever gone on a 3,000 mile road trip, you know that this is a fun adventure with great vistas along the way but there's always that chance that things can go wrong. Add traveling in winter and those chances increase greatly. We know this from personal experience!
In this latest video of our (2022) winter road trip adventure from Tampa to Toronto, we visit Cuyahoga National Park in Ohio and Niagara Falls in Canada. We also walk along the beams under the New River Gorge Bridge in West Virginia with only a thin strap to keep us safe and see a side of Mammoth Cave National Park that few see by taking a horseback ride through the park.
Along the way, we encounter 2 winter storms with one closing major interstate highways and also have car troubles that left us making a risky emergency stop at the side of I-75 as cars whizzed by us.

Oh, so good. The daughter and I did it last year. I think it is now an upcharge with the dining package.

Hello! I’m doing a NCL Alaska cruise in a couple months! I made the mistake of booking a massage at 9am the day we are cruising through glacier bay. 😂 What is the timeline of cruising through glacier bay? Will we be traveling through the glaciers all day or is it just a short period of time? Will I miss a lot of the glaciers while I’m having my massage? Thanks for any info!
If I recall, that experience started around 6am & we were done around 3-ish. Not sure how long your session is in the spa but … It’s basically one way in and then one way out so you might catch the same views in the opposite direction. Wow. That’s quite the increase in cost. I would suggest checking costs periodically. I know there was some kind of sale going on a few months ago. Maybe another sale will pop up with better pricing
What was the name of the restaurant?
It actually wasn’t a restaurant. It was in an “activity club” was what I believe they called it. I don’t recall seeing much of a sign. Essentially, it’s a place where they host events including cruise excursion activities such as this one. Thanks for watching.

What was the price on breakfast? What was your time to get on the ship?
Breakfast was a la carte so the prices will vary based on what you order. The breakfast entrees were somewhere in the $20 to $25 range but their costs can change so it's best to check the Marriott website for the on site restaurants and their menu prices. Thanks for your question and for watching!
How much is the parking fee? I will be cruising for 7 days via RC.

If the Terminal A parking garage is full, can I go to the nearest garage to park? Or do I have to use the other garage for RCI cruises, near Terminal G?
I have never experienced this myself but according to the Royal Caribbean blog, if the garage is full, they will direct you to another terminal for parking and then provide a shuttle back to Terminal A if that happens. Thanks for watching and for your question!

So a fluid change solves this?
Drilling the hole in the valve body plate is what solves the rumble strip noise but you have to drain the fluid to remove and reinstall the plate. Thanks for watching and for your comment!
@@RamblingWithPhil Being big and slow, I have asholes who feel im going to slow and swerve, pretending to hit me as they pass., So anyway, I often need to slam on my brakes to avoid them from getting too close. As a result of this I noticed my transmission started jerking, but then after several miles of normal NON interrupted driving, the transmission seems to go back to normal. Im hoping to do a fluid change as soon as I can afford it.
I'm not sure if the fluid change will fix the transmission jerking but I'm not a mechanic. If it stops after it gets warmed up, it does sound like it might be a fluid or filter issue. I was able to find the Shell transmission fluid at a much cheaper price on Amazon but the prices do vary so you have to keep searching and compare all the seller's costs. I also found the filter on Amazon for cheaper than anywhere else. Good luck and thanks for watching!
Looks like it's been 7 months now so how is it working? Seems like all the door parts on Ebay are all cheap China products that many claim don't last long.

Recovered one just like that one that had pushed into the mud and left there. A lot of cleaning and changing fluid 2 or 3 times and got some function if I bleed it before use.

Can you walk from the cell phone parking lot to the first floor/tram area to pick up an arriving passenger?
You can but it's a bit of a walk. There is a pick up area at the street level across the street from the building that houses the car rental area which is closer. A passenger can take the tram from the "main airport terminal" to the rental car station and then follow the signs for local transportation/pickup. There is a covered/enclosed walkway over the road to the other side where there are a series of escalators that take you down to the street level where you can do a passenger pick up. Unfortunately, I have not found any information that indicates that you can pay for parking in advance at the Miami Cruise Port Terminal A. Sorry I can't be of more help.

@Rambling With Phil, there is a trolley to Dodge Island. I've seen some video people walking from one port to another and where there is sidewalks, so people can choose to stroll and take their time and go the cheaper route. However, your videos did not show or mention anything about other options other than driving.

Ahoy Phil! We did the guaranteed balcony on the RCCL Mariner back in December 2019. It turned out to be a good decision too! RCCL upgraded us to a Superior Ocean Balcony on the Starboard side of the ship on deck 6 within view of the bridge wings. Much larger balcony than the standard one and would have been much more expensive if I had chosen it! I'm rolling the dice again by doing the Guaranteed Balcony cabin for our upcoming February and April RCCL cruise on Allure of the Seas.
Good luck on the cabin on your next cruises! We really like the Allure along with all the Oasis class ships. We are also cruising in March 2024 on the Independence of the Seas again.

You're right. I didn't have an extra set of hands (or a tripod at the time) to hold the camera so I wasn't able to do that. If I have to do this again, I will make sure I have one or the other. Thanks for watching and for your comment.
Mine has to work pretty hard so I use Valvoline VR1 Racing Oil. 10w30 Nov. to May and 20w50 May to Nov. Never had a problem. Marvel Mystery Oil in the gas.
