Washington National Airport (DCA) - video tour, flying American Airlines

Flying on American Airlines from Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA) - walkthrough from check-in to boarding through bus gate 35X.
I'm travelling from Italy to Seoul and back via Beijing pek, on the return journey I have just a 1h30min connection, do you think it will be enough? Do I need to go through immigration or just the security controls? I booked all flights with airchina on a same ticket, they should give me both tickets when I check-in on my first flight...I don't understand this about a ticket desk for the second boarding pass? Will I need to do that?
@@ottaviagiano2823 You may need to stop by the transit desk to get a boarding pass for your next flight. In my experience, chinese airports will not accept a boarding pass issued at origin. However, transit desk should be relatively fast, and then you go through security and on to the next flight. If flights are on time, you should be fine. Given that this is all one ticket, even if there is a delay, worst case Air China will put you on the next flight.
@@flysolo553 I see, I didn't find anywhere this precious info about the ticket desk, thank you!
Please help. I'm flying from Ulaanbaatar to Beijing with Mongolian airlines. I then booked a separate ticket from Beijing to Johannesburg with ethopian airlines. Because the flights are booked on two separate tickets, how do I do a self check for my baggage? Which option should I choose. Will I require a visa to claim my bags and then recheck it?I have a South African passport
@@hamzahkhan4687 You will need to go through immigration and enter China, collect your bags, then check in for the next flight. I believe you are eligible for the transit without visa (at least for up to 24 hours). Beware that your first airline check in may be unaware of the rules, so be ready to "educate" them. See this for details: www.travelchinaguide.com/embassy/visa/free-transit-24hour.htm

I know this was posted 4 years ago, but I am really happy I found this. I normally fly direct from the USA (DTW) To London (LHR), but this year I am going to Norwich, and I wanted to fly into there instead of having a long drive. Most of the videos I have seen leave me with lots of questions, but this one I think is spot on and what I needed. SO for my trip looks like I will Arrive at AMS, no need to get my checked bags I am flying one ticket via Delta/KML so bags should be checked all the way to NWI. All I have to do is go through passport Control and on to my next gate. Sounds easy...LOL...know I just have to find out if my carryon weight is unlimited like it is with Delta or I have to make sure I am at KLMs 18kg max combined for carryon and personal bag.....I have a lot of equipment so hoping I do not have try and hit the 18kg mark....last year my carryon and my camera bag was a total of 43 pounds so over the 18kg.....might have to downsize some things. which is fine I tend to over pack anyway..lol
If I am flying from USA through Schiphol then onto Spain, will I need to go through passport control at Schiphol?
Yes, since that is your point of entry into the Schengen area.
Hello, thanks for the informative video! I will have a flight with Hainan Airlines from Brussels Airport to Tokyo Narita with a 2h10 layover in PEK (from terminal 2 to terminal 2). I heard that you (might) have to recheck your baggage and go through customs, will this be enough time to do all of that? The flights are on a single ticket, thank you!
Assuming this is a single ticket, you will not need to recheck your baggage. 2 hours is, normally, quite sufficient for a transfer. Enjoy Tokyo!
Hello, how did your flight was? I have to fly from brussels airport to narita with a stop at pek too and i am a little scared. Maybe can you answer some questions ? And maybe you speak french? 😂
@@charlotteferlisi9687 My French isn't good enough to explain this hahaha. Hope English is okay. Ended up flying with China Southern instead, went very smooth didn't have to recheck luggage. A friend did fly with Hainan though. He also didn't have to recheck his luggage. When your checking in your luggage in Brussels, ask one of the staff whether it will be automatically put onto the next flight to be sure. The tag they put on my bag had Haneda as end destination so that also put me at ease. Also for the transit in China (mine was in Guangzhou, not Peking), it went very smooth for me. I did arrive at 6am local time so there were basically no queues. Did not have to go through customs. Just followed the signs for transfers and had my passport and carry-on inspected like regular and I was in the terminal. This took like 30-40 minutes maybe. 2h10 layover does seem tight to me though. Your first flight could have some delays or the flight takes longer than expected + queues at the airport and it will already be very close to get your next flight in time I think. Maybe it's fine but I like to be careful with stuff like this.Hope this helps! lmk if you need any more explanation!
@@kobeproost3254 thank you so much for your answer! That seems not that stressful 😅 did you had a ticket from china to Haneda or did the passport is the only thing needed to pass the transit inspection? How did they knew you are a passenger for another fly? With the passport number?
@@charlotteferlisi9687 Not sure I fully understand correctly😅but for the transit I needed my boarding pass and my passport. You just had to follow the signs that said "transit" or "connecting flight" instead of the signs pointing to the exit or baggage claim. It was really straightforward. I wouldn't worry to much about it beforehand. The airport clearly indicates where you need to go. If you don't know where to go you can always ask a staff member
Next month from Paris France I am going to Hongkong 🇭🇰 via Beijing the transit time is only 4 hours for that do I need a transit visa at Beijing airport? Let me know please I am lil scared and bit worried please 🙏 I will stay inside the airport not gonna go outside. My flight is same air China up and down both the flight is same. From Hongkong to Paris France 🇫🇷 via Beijing. I am Belgian 🇧🇪 passport holder!
You do not need a visa to transit. Enjoy Hong Kong!
@@flysolo553 thanks 🙏
in worse case you have 14 days free visa ! if you have a french passport
Hi, thanks for the video, it's very informative. I have a flight with transit time 19 hours in PEK Beijing and got a transit hotel reserved already, do you know whether there is a free airport shuttle from the airport to the hotel and return for the international transit?
If the hotel has one. No airport shuttle I know of.
If I am flying from London Heathrow to Haneda Japan via Beijing on AirChina , with a layover of 1hour 45 minutes , is this enough time ? I’ve never done a connecting flight before . AirChina is the airline from start to finish
On a single ticket - normally, yes (and in any case Air China will be responsible for rebooking you, if needed)
Hello. I'm watching your video. I normally have a direct transit in Beijing but I'm not sure I'll get my traveled pass to Bangkok. So if I understand correctly and I have to go to the ticket office ask for the next bording pass or go out and do the entry formalities again? Do I have to take my rings or will they automatically follow to Bangkok?
You will need to pick up a boarding pass at the transit desk. Baggage should be checked through - no need to pick up.
Don’t visit this city they are not kind to visitors. I wait 1.5 hours to check in.
Their passports service is so terrible. I was waiting more than one hour to check out. May God give them wisdom to solve this Problem.
I'm so sorry for Canada. Most things about a good Canada are not true, Including clean cities - beaches, and forests. It's a big lie. The first time I arrived in Vancouver in 2018, I was shocked. As soon as I left the airport door, I saw tissue, disposable glasses, and other garbage left in the city. The further I went, the more I saw them. Before I moved to Canada, I lived in Georgia, Armenia, Turkey, Serbia, The United States, and for a short time in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Netherlands, Germany, and England, but I have never seen the amount of garbage that people leave in different Canadian cities. Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, and Quebec are no less than Vancouver. Canadian and Canada Governments don't care about this tragedy. I think everything that says about Canada as a clean and powerful culture is not true. You don't need to travel to Canada to see this. Just watch some videos about walking in downtown Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, and Quebec. You will find the truth. Impossible for you to walk in a Canadian city and you don't see the dark side of that. Everywhere you will see garbage. You will never see this in Europe, Australia, the United States, Japan, and Korea. This amount of waste is not even seen in Malaysian, Indonesian, or Thailand cities. It is impossible for you to use public transport and not see a lot of garbage at stations or on the route. You will be surprised to find a lot of garbage even in the woods - by the rivers and on the beaches in Canada. I wish the Canadians woke up and had no enmity with their country. To be fair, I randomly looked at videos from downtown Manchester and Concord in New Hampshire - Philadelphia - Detroit - Chicago - New York - Baltimore - Denver - Nashville, and Knoxville in the United States, and Toronto - Quebec - Montreal - Winnipeg - Calgary - Vancouver - Victoria - Ottawa and Thunder Bay in Canada. we should be fair. The bitter truth must be accepted. Without any exaggeration. Completely impartial. I have to say that I didn't see a single piece of garbage in any of the US videos to convince myself. Without exaggeration, in all Canadian cities, there must have been a piece of garbage on the ground less than every hundred meters. It must have an important reason. I do not know. But this is a bitter truth. You can try. This country should be brought closer to its exaggerated claim. the truth is bitter. Certainly, some Asian countries such as Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and even Malaysia are much cleaner compared to Canada. Of course, we should not forget that Canada claims to be one of the 10 cleanest countries in the world. And Vancouver claims to be one of the 5 cleanest cities in the world. Please go to East Hastings or Victoria Drive or Commercial Drive or West Georgia or Broadway or Main Street and judge for yourself. I am 50 years old and have traveled to 26 countries. Canada is far from its claims. I saw, homeless people, pooping and peeing everywhere and it's so common. nobody cares. I was shocked again. I endured for 3 years but every day going worst. late in 2022, I decided to move to the east because I thought that place has a stronger culture. I chose Montreal. I had heard it is the capital of art and civilization in Canada. it was absolutely wrong. Canada is Canada. I was shocked again, again, and again. the wave of homelessness, graffiti, vandalism, bad smell, terrible infrastructure especially roads in or out of the city, and above all, you can see trash everywhere. plastic bags, tissues, water bottles, and disposable cups. You cannot see any street or park or public place without these. This is impossible. surprisingly nobody cares. neither the people nor the government!!!!!!! please, don't be fooled by the advertisement about a good Canada. please, be careful. most of the things about a good Canada are deception This country is disappointing. Please, Please, Please, don't immigrate to Canada you would regret it absolutely. this is not a developed country, Canada is a developing country with huge serious problems.
😂 oooh that's good luck
Great video thx !! Outside KLIA2 was great shopping areas, however wait until you go inside pass immigration with multiple bag scanners !! Worst of all was the waiting area for boarding, it reminded me of chickens or cattles in the cage barn , and please don't go to the toilets in the boarding areas , filthy is understatement.

How hard was it coming from the US to catch your connecting flight- did you bring carry on luggage or Checked bags..I am concerned with catching my flight- Thanks
It's an average sized airport. Connection time has a number of factors - one vs separate tickets, domestic (Schengen) or international. Depending on that times will differ.
@@flysolo553 if its a connecting flight from the US- to another European country and you have checked luggage how does that work?? are you familiar. Thanks!!

This is one of the things I really love about Amsterdam Schiphol is the signs and information that you require for a transfer are all very well positioned and nice big yellow signs at eye level. Gives you a very clear indication of where the piers & gates are. On top of that as you clearly point out is a huge list of imminent departures on computer screens that are constantly being updated and there's at least one of those in every pier.
I missed travelling so much. KLIA is one of the airports I visited few weeks before the pandemic. Edit: and I remember viewing this video before as my reference
Hello FlySolo, thanks for the video. I hope the pandemic can end so we can turn flying. What city SPECIFICALLY form the US did you fly from into Beijing? I often fly to Beijing from New York and I have been to Beijing airport every year except the pandemic. Nice!

hey I am transferring from in Amsterdam and I have 1:10h of time (flying to a Schengen Country) will this be enough?(flying with the same airline) Thanks for the help in Advance
If you're initial flight is roughly on time you should have enough time. However if you are say 30-40 minutes late it may put you in an awkward position. The one thing I would maybe do if you were running behind schedule is just talk to someone in authority like maybe the head of your cabin crew on your incoming flight to AMS or visit a help desk as soon as you arrive in AMS. Ideally for the future I would give yourself a minimum of 2 hours between flights (just gives you that bit of leeway for unforeseen delays or minor holdups), and if things are all running to time then that's great you can always sit and have a coffee and a cookie in a cafe.
U should do one with connection flights

When i arrive at this airport m i supposed to give my biometric (finger print / photo) ? I hold regular british passport . Travelling to canada for tour.
Charlotte Michael I believe the passport reading machine is taking your photo. It did not require fingerprints last time I was there.
Fly Solo so british citizens coming to canada throught eTA for visit/tour need to have their photos clicked at the airport upon arrival as part of biometric . Is it 100 confirm?
Charlotte Michael As far as I know, all visitors have their photo taken - regardless of the country of origin.
Did you have your photo when u arrived in canada ? Also what passport do you hold ?
Charlotte Michael Come to think of it (see video at 2:00) - the machine did not take a photo. Sorry, initial answer might have been incorrect.
Can i claim baggage after 1 hour? Because i have to wait my mother's flight an hour latter
reska widia putra I do not have specific experience with late baggage pick up at KUL. In general, bags that remain on the belt for a while, will be taken to the "lost baggage" office, where you can pick them up later. I had bags stay like that up to 12 hours elsewhere. Keep in mind that if you do that, the risk of your bag "walking away" is higher.
Hello, thank you this video! I will have a flight with AirChina (Canada to Philippines) with a 3 hr. stopover in Beijing Airport. Your video gives me a lot of peace of mind knowing what to expect. I wonder whether this was in your video and I just didn't understand, but can I do a direct transit if my luggage is not checked through, or do I have to go landside to retrieve my luggage?
Thanks for the video I wanna ask you about the filed arrival paper what is the questions they ask?
Christina Tina Do you mean the Transit Without Visa counter? Or passport control?
Fly Solo I mean passport control
Christina Tina My experience with passing China's passport control is that they do not ask questions. They would normally type/search in their system and look at visa and passport, then let me in. Don't think I've even been asked about the intended duration of stay or return tickets. YMMV of course.
Thanks for the Video. I was not sure if i would have to pick up my checked luggage at YYZ or if that will happen at my destination in YEG, coming from ZRH (Switzerland). A friend told me i would have to go thru customs and recheck my luggage at YYZ, but aparently he was wrong...
This depends on whether you are flying Air Canada or another airline. AFAIK checking baggage all the way through is only available when flying Air Canada.
You'll have to pick up your luggage at the carousel and recheck them in because the customs people requires it. There will be agents at the exit of the customs area so you can re-check in your bags. Also you'll have to redo security. (I did alot of flights through yyz to yul from international flights). But just a suggestion, ask the people at the airport of departure just to make sure because the procedure might have changed because of the virus
