Bruce was on the road for most of the 80's with Bruce Marshall and the Clue, a popular Boston based band that recorded an album on ATM records in '88 and was also featured on numerous compilations. In '89 Bruce took a break from the band to join forces with Toy Caldwell of the Marshall Tucker Band and they hit the road, playing throughout the US in support of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Charlie Daniels and the Outlaws. The Toy Caldwell band recorded one of Bruce's originals with noted producer Paul Hornsby and Bruce worked on their major label debut, Toy Caldwell, "Son of the South" on Cabin Fever Records. In the early 90's, Bruce formed a duo with old friend James Montgomery and they released 2 live CD's (both are BB King openers) and continue to perform on a regular basis. To date, Bruce has shared the stage with over 85 national acts.
The Bruce Marshall Group emerged shortly thereafter and originally had an 8-piece lineup.

Toy Caldwell Band with Bruce Marshall - The Night We Met
มุมมอง 1.5K14 ปีที่แล้ว
From the 4 Legged Duck in South Royalton, VT., Nov. of 1989. The so called "mystery song" in Toy Caldwell's body of work. He loved to play this on acoustic in the dressing room and after the shows but rarely played it live. I'm not sure if anyone knows the correct name of this one but he always announced it as a Charlie Daniels co-write. It's a pretty piece and I'm glad there's a nice example o...
Toy Caldwell Band with Bruce Marshall - Take The Highway
มุมมอง 2.2K14 ปีที่แล้ว
From the 4 Legged Duck in South Royalton, VT. 11-89. One of the first songs Toy Caldwell ever wrote, it appeared on the first Marshall Tucker record on Capricorn. The band is kicking some serious butt here with Bruce Marshall on lead vocals and guitar, Pic Pickens on guitar, Tony Heatherly on bass and Herman Nixon on drums. Thanks for listening and keeping this special music alive and lets get ...
Toy Caldwell Band - Sleep Walk
มุมมอง 4.8K14 ปีที่แล้ว
Another clip from the 4 Legged Duck in South Royalton, VT., 11-89. "Sleepwalk" became famous after Santo and Johnny put it out in 1959 and it's also been covered by the likes of Richie Valens, Joe Satriani, Brian Setzer, Danny Gatton and many others. Toy Caldwell learned the song from his father as a child and his version is one of the more unique as he takes some liberties with the chord struc...
Toy Caldwell Band - Milk Cow Blues
มุมมอง 9K14 ปีที่แล้ว
4 Legged Duck, South Royalton, VT. 11-89. Toy's version of the 1946 Johnnie Lee Wills hit (penned by Kokomo Arnold) gets a slower, southern blues treatment than some of the other versions by the likes of George Strait and Merle Haggard. The tune is best known as a popular Western swing number and Toy was influenced by that music when his father was teaching him guitar. This clip highlights the ...

Toy Caldwell Band with Bruce Marshall - Running Like The Wind
มุมมอง 30K14 ปีที่แล้ว
Another clip from the 4 Legged Duck in South Royalton, VT., Nov. of 1989. Toy Caldwell always played "Running Like The Wind" very different from the orig. Marshall Tucker version released in 1979 on the album of the same name. TCB played a slower, more soulful version and it's represented well here. Toy had always said it was his favorite song and Bruce Marshall was quite honored when Toy asked...
Toy Caldwell Band, with Bruce Marshall. 24 Hours At A Time.
มุมมอง 11K14 ปีที่แล้ว
This was the second of 3 shows at the Four Legged Duck in South Royalton, VT. It took place in Nov. of 1989 and it's obvious the band was really on their game this night. Toy's guitar work here is nothing short of stunning, one of the better live versions of this tune you'll hear. 24 Hours originally came out on the Marshall Tucker album "Where We All Belong". Bruce Marshall is on lead vocals, ...
Toy Caldwell Band “Everyday I Sing The Blues” 9-7-89
มุมมอง 11K16 ปีที่แล้ว
Rare footage of the Toy Caldwell Band, with Bruce Marshall on guitar, filmed at the 4 Legged Duck in S. Royalton, VT on 9-7-89. This was Bruce’s 2nd gig with the band, they were normally a 5 pc. group but guitarist Pic Pickens went home to SC to assist in the birth of his first child. Marshall had recently been hired to play mostly keys and sing lead but was told he’d be playing guitar that nig...

Even 8 years late this is still great, thanks for posting!
Ditto here ! Thank you for posting this !
I saw Toy Caldwell in a small bar in Durham Connecticut, I believe it was 4 months later he passed. I was devastated, I grew up with marshall tucker, I stood literally 4 feet away from him for that whole show. I remember he came out and said, “Well, because of contracts Im not supposed to play any MTB songs, but hell, I don’t care Im gonna do em anyway” Then they busted into Ramblin and blew my mind out for the rest of the night. Toy Caldwell was an outrageously talented guitar player
I am enjoying my afternoon with the MTB boys and the Caldwell boys and family and it's so cool....
Always a treat to listen to this man and his music...I guess you have to be from Spartanburg SC to fully understand the true meaning of this man , this song and this BAND.... special in so many ways to All of us southern spirited people...
Just came across this time Les classic song very nice version does anyone know where this was recorded and what year
The venue was the Four Legged Duck, S.Royalton, Vt. Fall of 1989.
Nice job guys .toy and Bruce.
Keep running with that wind brother!!!
This is my favorite Marshall Tucker song from Where We All Belong. This is a true version to that if shorter. Toy was what I'd call an "iconic blues guitarist" because he was definitely blues yet rock and had a very special technique and tone. In other words like many guitarists such as Gilmour and Garcia I could instantly tell if it was Toy playing. That is so very special and amazing to me This cliche gets overused but it gains total truth when one says that Toy was one of the most under-rated rock guitarists of all-time. He was a string bending monster on the same plane as Stevie Ray. He was one of the most melodic heavy blues guitarists I've ever heard. He was amazing. I love his absolutely RAW and gruff vocals. Marshall Tucker was a special band and at least 75% of that was Toy.
Saw them at the Speakeasy in Breeze, Illinois around 1990.
I would have loved hearing him play it on a pedal steel. Toy Caldwell...best picker who ever lived. Ride in peace.
Toy Caldwell, Charlie Daniels, Gary Rossington ,Billy Jones not to mention 50 others are the reason/s I play a Gibson Les Paul, and other Gibson Guitars, Sure, I Love, and own Strats ,but a Lester truly has a tone that is all you will need
I saw MTB ‘s “Running like the wind” your on Long Island 1980 at the the Nassau Veterans Coliseum just months before Tommy Caldwell death , I was 18
I was there also. Also 18! What a memory.
That would be my dream concert if I could travel back in time
@@tomciano9820 what town you from ?

Marshall Tucker Band singing rhymes
@@bryanoconnor6981 That's one all time favorites to!
Does not get better than this. TREMENDOUS Stuff
I was at this show and had a chance to sit down and chat with Toy for a few minutes afterwards. Besides being a once in a generation songwriter and guitar player he also was very humble and kind. Thanks for posting these videos... can't believe they exist!

Tony in the days of Big Daddy's in Greenville SC playing with The Variations and Toy would come sit in and then to Walnut Grove for more jam. The days. Glad they were together in Toy Caldwell Band.
I remember Tony Heatherly he was a great muscian , Great bass player and singer here from SC , HE WILL BE MISSED RIP
Why is this listed as "Sleepwalk"??
Yeah this is nightlife gets cut off before he plays sleepwalk, sure would like to hear sleepwalk too but this is awesome nonetheless
Actually it’s nightlife with sleepwalk medley combined. You can hear the tune of sleepwalk on guitar halfway thru
It’s a medley. He combines the two song since they have a sortve similar chord progression: about halfway he does the sleepwalk medley
4:30 is sleepwalk
That freaking tone sends me
