About the Talk On February 29, 1968, the White House hosted its first―and only―fashion show. At the time, the patriotic event was lauded by the press, and many predicted it would become an annual occasion, especially since fashion had grown to become the fourth largest industry in the United States, employing 1.4 million Americans, more than 80 percent of them women. But the social and politica...

we love jerrys storys!!! hope he has a book soon. or podcast.
Jerry is full of sheet He lied about his relationship to The Beales Edie thought he was a pest and a leech Only reason he got his face on GG was because he heard they were filming and showed up.He did handy nan work for Beales Prior to the filming he had not been by the home long tome Edie was very suspicious if him
Michelle, Rehearsal is an important part of a great presentation.
I love Jerry! He is still very handsome! Such a sweet story. They all truly needed and cared very much for each other. God bless him. I am definitely a fan and will definitely find his book!! Thank you for this!! ❤❤❤
“the fact that Carter ushered in an era of…” Excuse me?
In the early 2000s my family and i visited the Black Fashion Museum in DC and learned about Anne Lowe. So grateful her collection lives on at the Smithsonian. heartbreaking to hear how horribly she was taken advantage of. Anne Lowe created couturier quality garments and should have been compensated accordingly
skip intro and pleasantries to 5:57 talk proper
Jerry's good at recounting it all
Jerry tells a different story in his book about the Mrs Beales funeral. in the book, he says that Little Edie walked over to the record player at the same time he was standing before the record player & Edie nodded to him to go ahead & play the record
Jerry i dont know if you will see this but I once emailed you after seeing Grey Gardens and got a nice reply! Thank you for your love and care to the Beals. God had to send you to them. You were truly a son to Big Edie and in my opinion great friend and support to little Edie. They remind me of my late mother and I. We could not care well for our house after my dad died and I wished we had a Jerry! I send you love and good wishes and prayers for your best
what is Jerry's stance on how the Maysels didn't compensate the Beales?
What a story!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I could listen to Jerry forever. Need to get his book.❤
So lovely. Well done. Especially the comparison. A dream :)
he talks about his dirty sweatshirt....i remember the white ''newsday" sweatshirt in the corn scene. i remember his bike too.
This was so helpful getting an insight to Eleanor's column and people she felt inspired during her time too!
wonderful presentation!
Feature films about her?!
I don’t appreciate the way Jerry keeps putting down Little Edie. I also don’t believe half his stories.
Nice video. Nice to hear from Jerry, his book was very good. His love for Mrs. Beale always shines so brightly.
I'm on Chapter 3 of the Book , it's a Great read so far .
They left their eccentricities with Jerry. Jerry Jerry Jerry
I sat through this whole video straining to hear it. I wish people would learn how to upload videos to TH-cam with better volume intensity. Some are so low, I can't even enjoy them. If advertisers can blast what they present, why can't other people?
“chick”?
Thank you , I really loved this .
You can see the impact Mrs Beale had on Jerry with this interview. It appears he came from humble beginnings, well all of us have if you compare what the Beales started with, but it seems to be true, we are molded by our younger self and upbringing we had, what we learn how we learn based on our surroundings and nurturing environment. It seems he really found peace and reassurance and an out of the box way of learning by listening to both Edies, he was surrounded by culture just fallen dwellings, where he may have missed learning about art and poetry and music in school or been to bored to listen he was given it in an environment that made him more receptive and maybe even eager to learn. I’m glad he’s doing well. Such a beautiful soul.
Wow, I just happened upon this because I've looked up anything to do with Grey Gardens and Algerythems hooked me up to this gem of an interview!! I was left wondering how Jerry was doing and how he got on in life. Thank you so much for having this get together and chat!! Priceless.
Fascinating! i could listen to him all day. so humble and endearing the way he worries about rambling on...its like no...please ramble on! i want to hear it all in detail. Amazing
Cool video. Thanks.
Thankyou Allison for that wonderful interview with Jerry Torre! He really is a sweet and kind human being and was a great comfort to the Beale's. He stayed around, even in those conditions, and was a great help. I love Gray Gardens. 👍😍💐💐🙏🙏
sometimes fate brings people together and how could there be a more perfect match than Jerry and the Beales? kind souls, not judgmental but loving and supportive of each other at a point in their lives where they needed each other greatly. I wonder perhaps the Greeks were right and it's all controlled by the Fates who looked down tenderly at these gentle souls.
Jerry is such a precious jewel of a human being. I loved every moment of him telling his story and can't wait to get his book and learn more.
Jerry - the marble faun - he is a wonderful story teller... his perspective on the Beales explains their magic
Hi Jerry, Tom here. Enjoyed video...plus subsequent MArble Faun videos. So you know which TOm this is.....WE spent some "time" in Dover FOxcroft.....M.E. together, Haha, a million years ago.....I'm married, no kids,.... have lived in E.H. the last 40 years. Would Love to talk. I'm listed. Call if you like. Be well. Tom
This is such a treat!
This host saying ummm constantly was so distracting
I enjoyed Jerry's remembrances. I have to ask, are you from California? The valley? The Valley Girl accent is extremely think.
He was very interesting and I loved his stories What a nice man ❤
Thank you so much for this! Jerry, this was a fabulous account that you gave us! What a gift for us Grey Gardens fans! God bless you!🥰
Very enjoyable! I love hearing a new story or fact about the Beales.
Alison: I hope you take this to heart. You did an amazing job allowing him to tell his own story. His way of struggling through it, evoking his memories in such an authentic way that he's obviously vacillating between the decency of protecting these women and being true to himself. Just brilliant.
Finally, I always wondered what happened to Jerry.
He contradicts himself constantly, his interviews don’t even match what he wrote in his book.
How so?
In his book he writes that he lived in New York and called the mansion on February 5th and Lois informed him that Mrs. Beale had passed earlier that morning. Quite different from this interview, where he claims that he was at the hospital, saw Mrs.Beale, and he and Mrs. Kennedy “orchestrated the funeral.” In his book he writes that he “borrowed an ill fitting suit from his brother and made the trip to East Hampton.” for the funeral. In his book , describing the funeral he writes”Looking over to the vestibule, I saw a familiar old record player from Grey Grardens sitting there”. Quite different from this interview, where he claims he brought it in, still covered in fleas. lol. In his book he writes, After the funeral “Edie invited me back to the house to have something to eat, but I declined.” Quite different from the “ French Restaurant on Montauk Hwy.” that he’s invited to in this interview. These are just a few of the inconsistencies. I think he really likes to blow his own horn! lol
@@DeniseMicklewright My replies keep getting deleted.
@@jdh6752I wonder why?!
@@DeniseMicklewright I caught that too. You have to remember, though he was 16, 17 years old. 18 years old or 19 years old when Edith died. Jerry was there and I do believe he lived there for a short while.
This is like the first ever platformed podcast, she talks about having guests, discussing a variety of topics, and she even asks to leave comments by writing her for the next episode lol how awesome
Im listening to the audio book of The Marble Faun of Grey Gardens for the 2nd time now. I love the story
Jerry seems very down to earth and never let all the publicity get to his head. I can tell he genuinely cared for both Edie’s wellbeing. God bless you Jerry 🌷
One of the worse curators that I think I’ve ever heard. I enjoyed the historical presentation referencing Mrs. Love, but unfortunately this isn’t giving her much justice. Horrible job, Ann definitely deserves much better.
Most fashion designers and artist don't have a business sense. Nothing to do with education or schooling
Jerry is a sweet soul. It was kind of him to care so lovely for Big Edie and Little Edie with such unconditional love. Question: Where were Big Edie’s two sons during the time their mother really needed their help?
I have always felt that Mrs. Harding has been severely underrated by history. The Duchess was so far ahead of her time on so many social issues - both as the wife as a Senator's wife and her all too short time as First Lady - Flo should be in the top ten of our First Ladies! Go, Flo!
