I watched the book and then watched the movie. The book was sooo much better. The movie was a let down. The opposite is true for the Alex Rider TV series though. The series did a great job of telling the story of Point Blanc along with the necessary changes to make it interesting on TV. Great book review regardless.

I loved the way you presented it without spoilers. Looking through the perspective of a person who hadn't read the book , I would have been interested to read it. But rating it 2.5was kinda harsh in my opinion. I had read the book , I would rate it 4 or 4.5. You complained about the nicknames, but it is a common trait in spy thrillers. You should judge a book according to which genre it is. I think you are new to this genre. Spy fiction is supposed to deliver the thrill and action . I think has done well as a spy thriller.Usually in spy thrillers, The main character , side characters aka other agents ,the main antagonist or his or her subordinates have nicknames or code names (in the case of fellow agents). I dont think Alan Blunts surname shows any of his characteristics .In James Bond series ,names like Doctor No ,Octopussy, Goldfinger etc are used . So far , I am of the opinion that Alex Rider series are the most realistic young adult spy thrillers ever written. I mean ...just imagine , I know this is a bit far fetched but if something like the story line happened in real life , it would have been somewhat like this. Alex is blackmailed to do things he doesn't want to do ,which doesn't give him satisfaction from all the things he had done . Nobody likes to be used to accomplish somebody else's goals, however great or awesome it is. Unlike most stories , the protagonist is reluctant to be a hero . Because of this and what all he had seen and been through while working for MI6, Alex is seen as a person who is not carefree or much happy mentally. I think this adds a realistic aspect to the story . But I dont think this book does not have flaws. Sometimes it seems that Alex is too perfect to be true . He has no weakness or any liability .If you had read this comment , I hope you consider my point of view and change your opinion about this book . If not I respect your decision. Let's agree to disagree . From one reader to another , happy reading throughout your life .
