Great video. I’ve recently been wondering why did Paul Feyerabend think that society had to be protected against science? I’ve recently began learning about philosophy of science. I’ve looked at the works of numerous thinkers such as Karl Popper, Thomas Kuhn, Imre Lakatos etc, however, a name that I’ve seen popping up recently is the name of Feyerabend and apparently he is extremely controversial. I wanted to know why this is the case and one of the reasons he’s supposedly considered “radical” is because of his opinion that society has to be “protected” by science. I believe this can be found in his 1978 book “Science in a Free Society.” He also defends epistemological anarchism in this book and in Against Method (1975). So, why did he think that society had to be protected against science? What are the reasons he gives for holding to this position? To me, as a newcomer to philosophy of science, this seems preposterous and absurd. This is because science has helped make the world a better place. It has extended our lives, created technology that has advanced our civilization, and modern science is seen as one of the West’s greatest achievements. Why would our society therefore need to be protected against science? Another worry I have about this position is that this can be used to defend pseudoscience and this is more dangerous than ever today (given the negative consequences of anti-vaxxers, as an example). I’m not experienced enough with Feyerabend’s philosophy of science enough, so it ultimately comes back to this question; why did he think that society had to be protected against science? and were the reasons he gave for this position actually good or are their misguided and false?

Accommodation holds a major role in the overall experience of tourist. It has a significant portion of traveler’s expenditure. Therefore , the function of the accommodation manager is critical in the hotel and tourism industries. Thus, it is deemed important to discuss more about accommodation. The video entitled Accommodation (Introduction to Tourism Sectors) discussed about the definition of accommodation, its ranges and types. The speaker in the video first introduced accommodation as a tourism sector. Then he defined it as a location where tourists can stay during their travels in a tourism destination. Afterwards, he proceeded on the range of accommodation. Based on the services that can be offered, an accommodation may be classified as fully or partially service accommodation such as hotels and motels; and self-catering accommodation such as apartments. Furthermore, accommodation can be classified based on characteristics of a tourist namely accommodation for mobile travelers (e.g. campers and trailers), within a mobile transportation (e.g. cruise ship), and in the sharing economy (e.g. house guests). Lastly, he mentioned the common types of accommodation such as hotels, boutique hotels, guest houses, bed and breakfasts, inns, and self-catering, accommodation (e.g. apartments and cottages; and the more specialized type of accommodation such as campus accommodation, youth accommodation, medical facility, cruise liners, ferries, trains, visiting friends and relatives and sharing economy. The video was indeed informative. It provides us definition, ranges, and types of accommodation. Learning all these, it is indeed necessary to identify the type and range of accommodation facilities you will be established based on what type of tourist will you be catering and what tourist destinations are located in your area.
