I agree. I thought Zero was probably the most uninteresting of all the RE titles that had been made up to the point of its release, and still stands as one of the weaker entries entries in the entire series. As for Code Veronica, I personally think it shows its age poorly without nearly enough of the campy charm of its predecessors. Of course that's not to say it isn't campy, just that it doesn't manage to be as appealing to me. But by CV, the series was just starting to take some wrong-turns.

I couldn't understand everything, but he said that pictures of H. Bosch also inspirated him and were well fitting because the set in Silent also reminds of some kind of hell. Fat characters often symbolize sins like greed or gluttony, this was an important thing when developing the Insane Cancer.

I can't fault RE4 for its sequels dropping the ball. That'd be like criticizing RE1-3 because I didn't think Code Veronica and Zero were good games.

I wouldn't say it's more stylish (certainly more ambiguous as a narrative), but I can totally understand why its style appeals more to survival-horror enthusiasts than RE4. At its core, RE4 wants the player to feel completely in control of Leon. Because of that, it doesn't substitute its choice of camera angles or lighting to diminish that playability. Silent Hill on the other hand depends more on creating its mood than it does rely on its mechanics to sustain player interest.

you really can't compare the two. They're the same animal but not the same breed. Its like comparing a German Shepard to a Great Dane. At their core they're both horror games yes, but Silent Hill is a game that wreaks havoc on emotion and the psychie to using stimuli such as music and color provoke our innermost fears, whereas Resident Evil uses graphic imagery and intense action to create that fear reaction. They're just not something to compare side by side, but independently.

Interesting how the one guy actually says "parallel world". Seems like a lot of the time the team tried to avoid saying a concrete term. Of course, whether this was a slip of tongue, or possibly just meaning to use the word in a loose sense is probably up to interpretation.

Silent Hill 2 is considered by many to be the greatest survival horror game of all time. SH2 has one of the deepest and most engaging stories of all time. The SH soundtrack, characters, and enemies are just more complete. I'm not taking anything away from RE4, but Silent Hill games are the paramount of survival horror.

Silent Hill 1,2 & 3 are greater than RE4.

Maybe Silent Hill is scarier than all the RE games combined, but RE4 is a masterwork of game and technical design that none of the Silent Hills come close to touching.

I really liked the voice acting in this game... Especially Heather. I can't believe they replaced Heather's VA in the new release of SH3. In my opinion, the original Heather will always be the best.

I say they're too different to compare. Resident Evil was first, but it's a far more straight forward and action oriented game than the psychological thriller that is Silent Hill. I wish the original developers would make another game. The last good Silent Hill games were Origins and Shattered Memories. Climax Studios was amazing at making SH games, then they got a new team to do the newest ones and they were crap. If they can't at least get the old team back, they should let Climax dev again.
