Deaf Boston and Maine Railroad Fan
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 24 ม.ค. 2024
Hello there. My name is Corey. I am a member of the deaf (though technically hard of hearing) community who has a deep passionate for railroading since I was a child. On this channel you'll find multiple videos of Shortline Railroads from the Arthur Purchase Archive that was provided to me by Mr. Purchase himself dating back between the 1980s-90s. I really love the Boston & Maine and Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. I'm a fervent follower of Jesus Christ. I really enjoy and respect the lifestyle, culture, music, and films from the late 1930s-1960s with an emphasis on the 1940s and 1950s. People had so much class back in those days and were kinder. My grandparents were lucky to experience that time period. One of my greatest regret is not showing an interest regarding that time period when I was younger. I also livestream Train Simulator Classic featuring transition era railroad equipment. Please subscribe to my channel. Thank you so much for your support! God bless! :)

Very cool! Love that P5 horn!!
What are you using to transfer off of VHS tapes?
I think I’m going crazy but i swear I’ve seen that locomotive on an older TH-cam video before on the Winnipesaukee RR
Beautiful sounding horn. It's better than some of the newer stuff.
I couldn't agree more! 🙂
The tracks used to run through the lower wooded part of my,uncles farm in West Danville!
Was that your uncle's farm in one of the videos that I posted?
@DeafBMRailroadFan not sure? It was between Danville an west Danville, it might have been ?
@@jimgomez5396 did the road towards the farm have sort of a long wide turn to it?
So great to get this rare footage. Was this a special run? All the cars were North Stratford.
Nice video :)
Thank you! ☺
Man, ..winter is here. It's cold outside, and we just had our first snowfall in my area, .. everything is just cold, and that 'winter grey and dreary' outside. .. watching this made me feel even colder. I hate winter.. 🤣
I can certainly imagine how you would react that way! 🙂
Was groovin to the jazz too.
Glad you enjoy the music. There's a reason behind it as well.

Wicked good Video. I had a chance to work with Woody back in the winter of 1985 on the NEGS.
Glad you liked the video! Wow, I had no idea that Mr. Woodward worked for NEGS as well!
nice to see an alco at speed! thanks for sharing all this footage and i can't wait for more!
Of course, it's my pleasure! Happy to read that you like them!
Now this is more of my interest! Not much footage of NEGS from these days! Also the second clip was taken from Manville Rd, in Tilton!
Also note that that’s 1008 right there
Glad you enjoyed the video! Thank you for letting me know the exact street. I will edit that in the description!
Also rest in peace 1008
@@Matts_Conrail_Chicago_Mainline No, it’s just stored out of service outside the Lakeport engine house.
WHERE DO YOU KEEP GETTING THIS STUFF FROM???
He sent them all to me! I have thousands of videos from Mr. Purchase's time in New England!
Very nice!!! Any more footage of the North Stratford railroad with audio?
Thanks! Unfortunately, no I don't and I double checked to make sure. Most of what I have are photos! I appreciate the comment.
@ gotchu. At least you got what you got. I think the loco you got there is the 44 Tonner that currently resides on the Conway Scenic Railroad.
@@NorthEasternMotionProductions absolutely! I think you are definitely right about that.
No spray painted box cars. What's going on?
Are these some of the last boxcars up to the end of the line in Vermont?
It is very well could be, I honestly have no idea.
I don’t think anything north of Colebrook was in service anymore by 1996.
Some great memories there!!! Was there for the last ever train south on the line...
It must've been sad to see the last train over there. I'm sure it was great while it lasted.
Mr. Purchase sure knew where to point his camera, so many good vantage points. Thanks for showing his films. Have you transfered these from film to digital or did he do that? Did he provide you with the old newspaper clippings, etc.? What a great treasure!
He is a fantastic videographer that is for certain! It's certainly a pleasure and a joy for sure! It makes me happy that others enjoy them as well! They are already on his external hard drive that I still have. I have transferred his files to two of my personal external hard drives. However I am getting a few more before I send his external hard drives back so I can have a few backup just in case one external hard drive fails, I will have a backup for years to come. These photos and videos are just way to historically important from my prospective to not play it safe. The newspaper clippings I found on google while researching some information about the railroad. They most certainly are a great treasure! I haven't even scratched the surface of what he has. It's amazing to look over and watch!
@DeafBMRailroadFan Thanks for your informative response, I enjoyed reading of your work. I'm not tech savvy, so am anxious to learn how others go about such things. Thank you again and keep up the wonderful work you are doing!

Briefly go to TH-cam and key in: " bonhomie hattiesburg 250". Here, you will find old footage of this locomotive in freight service in her natural habitat of south Mississippi. This footage is about 6 minutes long. There was longer footage in the past but I cannot find it now. Her career was on the Bonhomie Hattiesburg Southern RR. This shortline was about 20 miles long between Hattiesburg, Ms and Beaumont, Ms. They had an outside braced boxcar converted to a caboose( no coupla). Also, they had a logging 2-8-2 # 300. This on is displayed near the station in Hattiesburg and looks neglected. Check google maps. Also of interest, the B &HS had a modern 4-4-0 painted in southern railway green and gold but lettered for the B &HS. This is a brief repeat of the reply that I thought I sent to another commenter in this section. My apologies. Also if anyone is interested go to: ms rails.com. Here you will find still photos, history etc on many lines. Iam fascinated by the info provided on mainlines, shortlines and logging lines. Also good town histories here with beaucoup photos.
I wrote a lengthy reply to daveydoodle86 in this comments section for any body wanting to see footage of #250 as she worked freight in her original shortline days. Thank you for sharing your videos. They are quite interesting and are a real treat.
That locomotive must’ve seen better days when she used to operate. Also I couldn’t help but notice that the coaches looked similar to the ones at the Strasburg Railroad.
I'm thinking those sharp curves are probably bigger than the " broad curves " we modelers use. All of our scenery is compressed. Our puny curves look good. But the real world is vast. That loco was obviously capable of cornering those curves.
I remember a loco like that in my town. Those things were pretty nimble. The first shot seemed plausible as he was gunning up that incline. No matter if the film is fast or not , the dog at4:30 was faster!. 😅
Yeah! I am surprised by the same thing as well! There's a small railroad on the west coast that uses one for revenue freight still. I forget where though. I was laughing at that as well! 🤣
Thanks for the memory. We could have been on it!
Happy to bring back such memories. It's really my pleasure!
nice one!
Thank you! 😊
Nice to see video footage of my local line. I live 10 minutes away from the Wolfeboro depot and my family had connections with the railroad at the time. Awesome footage Corey!
I'm happy to hear that you like the footage and that it invokes whatever memories you have of the Wolfeboro Railroad. Believe me, I absolutely know the feeling. This wouldn't be possible if Mr. Purchase didn't send me what he had.
@@DeafBMRailroadFan I personally don't have any memories, I wasn't born at the time. My grandfather had rode the B&M from Manchester Union to Lowell frequently, and my mom had rode the Wolfeboro Railroad with my grandparents. My grandfather told me how him and his family had moved to California briefly for his moms work, and they took the B&M and its connectors from Manchester to Lowell, into Boston, and out to Chicago where they took the UP out west.
@@notch8c40 wow. That's quite a family story there. To ride the B&M and then from then take the UP out of Chicago to get to California is certainly a huge endeavor. I am sure, especially for the time period must've seen a lot of action on the way. I can only picture that in my head as a passenger. Thanks for sharing that!
@@DeafBMRailroadFan Not a problem.
That dog passed #1! He won the race. lol
😂
great video. glad it has been made available
Happy that it's out there for the public to view.
Wow! Knowing where all those places are today and seeing what was is incredible. But I think the film is being played back a little faster than it should.
yeah, that little locomotive was really moving. Of course if they played it at the speed it probably was going the video would be twice as long or more.
Amazing. I've never seen this footage and I've looked. This is the Springfield Terminal I remember from when I was a kid.
I'm happy to read that this footage has invoked some positive childhood memories. ☺
Great footage! Just too bad it doesn’t have sound.
250 does well operating over this heritage railroad, back then around the time the Wolfeboro Railroad was in service.
Man, they are going FAST, especially around those tight corners!
They did have some good track left but they weren't going that fast. Watch it again at .75 speed and it is a little more on target. That speed-up was done when the film was digitized to avoid shutter flicker.
@@sjwhitney Ah, makes sense.
At long last footage of my baby running with sound instead of radio static. I try to visit 250 as often as I can at Edaville because unfortunately 250 is now a static display so I always try to spend time around the old girl and comfort her because Edaville isn't doing anything to keep her in good presentable condition but as long as 250 is still around I am glad.
I've been to Edaville many times and every time we visit, my brother and I walk into the cab of the 250.
I saw that. It's really unfortunate that the locomotive isn't being maintained. Better then scrapped I guess.
She is better off like how she is now than scrapped. One of these day me and a couple of my friends are going to try and ask Edaville for permission to cosmetically restore 250 and make her more presentable to the public. And hopefully fix her recently broken bell cord but only time will tell if my friends and I can do that for now we just sit and wait until the right time.
@@DeafBMRailroadFan You've seen us before?
@@kevincleary4273 no I only read about it.
Nice to see footage of 250 with better quality and better sound! Footage of this engine is very scarce.
I wholeheartedly agree. Especially under the "Wolfeboro Railroad" flag.

@@nicholasmedovich8691 no there isn't. The locomotive is on display.
@@DeafBMRailroadFanwhat about the coaches. Are they still surviving or were they scrapped
@@nicholasmedovich8691 to my knowledge I think a couple of them are in California know. I forget what railroad has them though.
I rode this line during its brief existence.
It's a shame that its existence was brief.
How'd it die? Bad management or just lack of interest.
Never heard of this place, but glad to know of the existence of another former tourist line that had a steam engine running there.

@ it’s on the Granite State Scenic now, though she hardly gets used since she’s an Alco on a Primarily EMD railroad. Gimme a second to pull my video up.
@@DeafBMRailroadFan th-cam.com/video/ouuHxOkh9Cg/w-d-xo.htmlsi=QHkdn0grLeTg7Xck it’s the Alco in the first segment of the video.
@@NorthEasternMotionProductions gotcha. I never knew that was the same locomotive. Interesting on the reason why she's rarely used.
@ yea. The Granite State Scenic was the Hobo Railroad, which is important to note since that’s how Ed Clark started it as and how it ran until 2023. Ed Clark also had a pretty big role in the Wolfeboro too, which is how he got 1186. Also, 1186 was the Hobo’s first loco so it’s pretty significant. Plus, it did run as a main loco from 1987 until 2001 or 2005, when 958 took over for it. 958 is another Alco of theirs btw. It took over cuz it had better controls after it got a cab upgrade after it got into a crash before it went to the Hobo.
