There is nothing preventing you from putting a box spring. Haven't tried. Might move though since there is no guard around. Depending on the height you go with, you will also need to get a box spring cover or bed skirt to hide it.

How long is it lasting?

@TheGr0g honestly I returned the one I purchased for my daughter. The GPS is very inaccurate and there is a delay in the voice calls.
