An excerpt from a Quarter Peal of Norwich Surprise Minor, at South Harting, near Midhurst in West Sussex, on Saturday 26th October. The bells are rung from the ground floor chancel crossing, in the middle of the church, and with a long unguided rope draught, therefore are quite challenging to ring. bb.ringingworld.co.uk/view.php?id=1779631

It's interesting to note that of all the competing bands, none are representing six bell towers!
cast by john taylor treble and 5th g mears an co 2nd and tenor 4th pack and chapman 1935 1864 and 1775
hohoho taylors
I really love these.
treble is mears and stainbank the rest robert caitlin tenor 6-0-13cwts
Thank you for the information, but you don't have to remind me on every video.
Very nice ringing!
Thank you Mark!
Nice ringing, and lovely bells. I always like the sustain of the bells on half muffled ringing. Thanks for your videos, I always enjoy listening to them. Often I will listen to Bristol Max at Yorkminster,it simplymakes me be in the moment, not able to think of my problems , just being in a good head space.
Thanks Steven for your kind words, pleased to hear you enjoy my recordings. We like half muffled ringing (which is why we rang ten quarter peals over the remembrance weekend!) I occasionally listen back to York Minster too, and remember how special it was to ring and hear those bells in person. I used to watch videos of York Minster all the time when I was younger and my interest for ringing was looming.
@francescogreenslade7793 Yorkminster are special, they are the jewel in the crown for Taylors, the heavy bells have that classic prewar Taylor drone which I love. When I listen to the Bristol Max I close my eyes and I listen to what sounds like two different things ringing,,you have the front 6 or 7 dancing through the back 5 and the back 5 change positions. I really like the start of Stemsn Cinques when a bob is called, as you get the 5 back bells descending in a row, absolute magic to ring and to listen to. I think I could go up Yorkminster and a few other places like Winchester and lay down for a whole peal and just be in peaceful mental Heads pace.
Were these the muffles I made?
They are indeed
Bellissimo!
Lovely bells and I always love half muffled ringing as you get a lovely sustain on the tenor on the non muffled side.
Quite a lot of mechanical noise coming from the tower here unfortunately. The recording is from outside, but the bells (rehung last year) are level with the louvres so a bit of stay/slider noise can be heard from the trebles. Also, for whatever reason, the treble and second have different muffles so they don't fit as well with the others.
nice tower !
It absolutely is!
They are a jolly fine 6! ❤
Nice bells and some really good ringing. They sound like a fun ring.
The very definition of a 'music box' light 8!
They are very musical. A bit odd struck though which lets them down.
hohoho taylors 1904 tenor 8-1-21cwts plus scantus bell which is actually quite new 10 years ago
It does say this in the description.
liss on dove is F# it sounds G
A very sharp F#, similar to Burgess Hill and Chiddingfold, although Chidd (near identical ring of bells which these were copied from) are listed as G.
A great method and rung so well on these lovely sounding bells.
They're a very old fashioned sounding eight, which shouldn't be so given three of the bells were recast in the 1970s!
Nice steady ringing - well done all!
Remind me of the back six at Hampton.
Both are rings of 18th Century old fashioned Mears bells, and both are 12cwt in F#.
mears and stainbank tenor 8-1-9cwts 1931
Ah Dove, yah Dun it agen.
A cracking gillett 8. Pity the strking wasn't the best.
This is lovely ringing on a beautiful Whitechapel peal. This is what I class as a wedding bell ring, a bright and chirpy light Whitechapel 8
You have to love Gilletts, these are beautiful and beautiful ringing too. St James Clerkenwell, there is another craxker Gillett 8
Nie bells with that old school country village feel.
Great li'l method, Annable's London 😁
Campanone: Pasquale Mazzola 1880 4 Minori: Roberto Mazzola 1902
I always try to guess the founder of bells before looking on Dove. In this case I am correct,Whitechspel bells. The shrill almost steely sound of trebles os the give away. My dad who was a bellhanger for Whitechapel in the 1940s to 1970s had a great saying. Whitechapel for trebles and Taylors for Tenors. White chapel produced wonderful light and chirpy wedding bell 8s. Taylors bells are more mellow and of course nobody did heavy tenors better.

They sound beautiful good video :)
Thank you, it was some nice ringing. The bells at St Lawrence are always a pleasure to ring.
One of my all time favourite eights. Nice steady bit of ringing, and Queens too - marvellous! 🙂
One of the best eights!
They are indeed. Equally their sister ring at Petworth to the east are up there.
@@francescogreenslade7793 they also remind me of Clitheroe which are absolutely beautiful.
St James Clerkenwell are another set of 8 Gillett gems
They sound interesting are they steel?
No, the front four are Gillett & Johnston of 1912 and the back two are Samuel Knight of 1703. They are all bronze bells - some of the bells, especially treble and 3rd sound a bit shrill because they are close to the louvres on the side I recorded this from.

Old school Taylor bells from 1894. Must have close to the time Taylor's started to use Simpson harmonic tuning.
Molto allegre! Nonostante siano tutte di diversa fusione, non sono per nulla male nell'insieme

Lovely bells and really nice ringing, I love the clear cut open leads.
Absolutely gorgeous and how so very English countryside. Nice Taylor bells as well.
