I wrote this song one night a good few years ago when I was "in the zone" and feeling nostalgic. It is clear from the lyrics that I have a soft spot for the stories of the 'Old West' with mentions of campfires and so on. Some people ask about the reference to 'Louis and Zane' in the song which is in the verse that starts: "I've been on the ranges, seen all the changes / Walked the trails with Louis and Zane." This refers to Louis L'Amour and Zane Gray, two of the best loved writers of western novels in the history of the genre. Pat McKenna from Derry recorded this song on The Wind On The Hill album and it remains an enduring favourite with a lot of people over the last decade or so. Thanks for all the nice comments below.
