Thanks for tuning in Francois!
I’m still watching. Just struggling with time difference so have to keep up with your progress looking good now just brought the storm hive my self for Christmas 🎄
Hey good to hear from you friend! I get that, that’s the beauty of things lasting forever on TH-cam right? Glad you can still tune in! And that’s a great Christmas gift! Honestly it’s a really great box set
O7
How’s it going? Missed you on the recent streams man!
@@knightlypaintingstudio was on a road trip, and been recovering the last couple days
I liked watching this and how you approached your highlights and shadows. It was much different than how I do mine, yet the result is great. Many paths leading to the same place?
Thank you! Yeah, I’ve found there’s always multiple ways to get the result you want, just depends on your process and the techniques you use! How do you paint yours?
How do you find the sansodor/pigment fixer? Does it actually work? Does it change the colour of the base? Cheers!
Great question! I don't find that it changes the color at all. I will say that occasionally it can make it look a little less dusty and if you use too much of the sansodor then it can mess with the color, mostly because it ends up removing some of the pigment. But yeah I've used this method on several army projects now with different basing schemes and haven't had any issues! Hope that helps!
O7 working on that lamenter...
It's looking really great!
Trying to finish up my risen lions guard, but would love to see you do a blanchitsu grim darkk tutorial
Your Lion Guard I think came out looking really good! Conversions are great as well!
Nice little conversion work, and amazing paint job! Would you happen to know the size of the chain used on the fist? and what superglue did you use to keep it where you want it? And where did you find the huge shield!?
Thank you! Much appreciated! Yeah I felt that the base model needed a little extra to make it Black Templar enough! The chain is 1mm silver chain, and I use that for both infantry and vehicles. Some people like slightly bigger 1.5mm chain. Here’s the exact link for what I used! amzn.to/4gwmN1O
I also tried to join the discord, but the link on your page states invalid =(
Oh man, thanks for letting me know! I updated the link so you can join the Discord - would love to hang out with you over there! 😊 Also, realized I didn't answer about the super glue it is BSI Insta-cure Plus Gap filling medium, 5-10 second glue. Link below for your convenience! amzn.to/4erxWz9
Such high quality recording, voiceover and production for a small channel returning after 3 years!! Thankyou youtube recommended, the only time youve been useful!
Thank you so much! Really glad this was helpful to you, that’s what it’s all about!
BRUTAL !!!!!!! one of the best black templar dreadnaught tutorials i've seen! 150 views? the algorythm is punishing you for not uploading a video in the last 3 years but dont let this affect you! you have the skills to be a succesful youtuber! keep it up :)
Thank you for the encouragement, that’s so kind! Very glad that you got value out of the video - this is what it’s all about!
Gorgeous work mate! Where did the tilt shield come from? Would love to see more from you!
Thank you so much! The tilt shield is the blank one from the Grey Knight Dreadknight, with one of the Black Templar upgrade sprue reliefs glued to it! Wanted to carry that army theme over to the dreadnaught as well! More tutorials to come!
Great tutorial.
Thank you!!
you should probably record the process?
I hear you! That’s great feedback, thank you! I am planning to record the process, just some steps to take before doing so on my end. Until then, any questions I can answer for you, or just hoping to actually see the process?
ill be back then :D
Still watching pal there coming together very nicely now x
Glad you were able to tune in! Yeah happy with how they are coming out!
O7
Hope you can join us on the next stream! How’s the Knight coming?
@@knightlypaintingstudio had to take a break from it last night. Brought several infantry from 90% to 95% (which means finished for table top play) instead. Just a bunch of small, knit picky details like eyes and such...
@francoismarion-eu3jq very good! And totally understand needing a break from such a large project!
Currently working on my Tau as well. The leader of a kroot unit is called a Long-quill.
That’s awesome! And thank you! Yes the Long-quill! 👏👏👏 I’ll be continuing to paint my Kroot tonight live here on TH-cam around 9:30-10pm EST! Would love to have you join me there in the chat! 👍🏼
Kroot for life!
Yes! Kroot are absolutely iconic! The new models are so good!
Ahh man I missed it but caught up now
You were missed! I’ll stream again either tomorrow or Thursday night probably around 9:30 EST - hope to catch you then!
Just finished watching it off after work really sweet man great 👍🏻 job
Thanks Andrew! It was great hanging and painting with you - looking forward to more 👍🏼
Am I missing a video or was the skin painted before the first video?
Hey! You aren’t missing anything, I painted the skin before doing any of the live videos. My loud airbrush booth isn’t live stream friendly unfortunately. I’m more than happy to explain the process, and answer any questions you may have! I also plan on doing a concise video tutorial on a custom Kroot Shaper I’m converting, so keep an eye out for that! It will cover assembly, skin, leather, metals and all the parts of painting Kroot!
@@knightlypaintingstudio Yea I’d love to know how you did the skin. It caught my eye from the thumbnail. Thanks for responding.
Of course, happy to pass that along! The skin is primed black with an all over basecoat of a red brown (Vallejo hull red in this case, something like a rhinox hide or mournfang brown or even tuskgor fur could work too. After that, I airbrushed a zenithal highlight of Rakarth Flesh to create the light volumes on the skin, and then used a 50/50 mix of Plaguebearer contrast paint and Loren Forest in a few thin layers all over the mini. To create variation across the 20 Kroot unit, I varied the mix and sprayed 4 or 5 at a time, so there are subtle changes in skin tone from model to model, but they look cohesive together. I even added some mournfang brown in to get a more tan /green tone for some. ***I would say in hindsight, keep track of the mixes you do for when you stipple highlight the skin. *** All that make sense? If you don’t have an airbrush, you can easily do this by drybrushing the Rakarth flesh and then applying the skin tones in very thin layers over the top! You just don’t want to erase the preshade of red-brown and Rakarth
In some cases it still continues after death
That is true!
I’m planning to start a World Eaters army that can also be run as a generic CSM army (still trying to decide what Legion they’re gonna be descended from, either Iron Warriors, Knight Lords, or Word Bearers), and I’m thinking of doing either a Beach, Swamp, or Tundra base scheme, and I must say your videos have been INCREDIBLY helpful.
This is awesome, so glad to hear these videos have been helpful! Did you decide what theme to go with? Curious to know - all those options sound really cool!
I plan on doing greyjoy. I think my concern is doing the large movement trays this way. I like this look the best but not sold on how authentic the water will look on a larger tray. Solid video and thanks!
Yeah, with a whole movement tray i would think you would need to do the entire tray all at once, and each model would have to be in a certain spot for it to look realistic. That said, if you could pull that off and do it across an entire army, that would look incredible!
@@knightlypaintingstudio Did you ever actually do a how to video? You mentioned you would 3 years ago, but I am not seeing anything (yours looks the best of all the youtube tutorials I have seen, so I'd prefer to follow your recommendations).
@@alexanderbroder2725 I wish I could say I did! That video never got made. Honestly, life’s been crazy the past few years, but I love painting and want to keep sharing things that are helpful for others! What would be most helpful for you to see in real time with this process? I could potentially do a longer video to show the actual process.
@@knightlypaintingstudio I think it has less to do with a particular thing and more to do with me being a visual learner. You explaining the process doesn't really compute for me whereas watching you do it step by step just works better (it would also be more in line with what other videos do). Bonus points if you do it without an airbrush and on different sized bases 😁
"Please help me. I have been airbrushing pictures onto my car using regular car basecoat paint, but it takes a full day for the paint to dry. Intermediate painters have told me that when I overspray the basecoat, I need to add a layer of clear coat within 10-15 minutes, otherwise the basecoat will not properly adhere to the clear coat. How can I do this properly? Thank you."
I wish I could help! I know zero about car paint! Are you talking about model cars or real cars?
Manwhere're u??? That very helpful guides
Glad these have been helpful for you! Anything you would like to see in particular? Real life got busy so I haven't focused on making videos recently.
@@knightlypaintingstudio I understand you. I'm REALLY looking forward to various new videos, if you ask me why? I will answer. Popular TH-camrs don't make such real guides. They just say what needs to be done, then the installation and the finished result. (They do so often). I'm new to this art and just bought all the tools, now I'm looking and looking for guides. I am waiting for the release of the world eaters and will buy them all, as well as paint them. Therefore, personally, I would like to see lessons on painting from 0 to 100% using red (for example, vallejio VERMILLION RED, a very beautiful color, I will paint in it.) I would like to see step by step. :) I hope you have some free time on video, because only your video helped me understand exactly how to do everything with pre-shading. Thanks.
I'm doing underwater Leagues of Votann, this is super helpful
Super cool! Space dwarfs underwater sounds really incredible!
You mentioned zenithal highlighting, I'm wondering why you didn't prime the model black and then do a white zenithal highlight to follow, that would of saved you time with the intricate black painting
Thanks for the feedback! If I was to go back and do this again, I most certainly would do exactly this! Prime Black, Zenithal white, then paint each color. Absolutely would have saved time!
So varnish the decal surface. Then after placing with set and sol, gloss varnish the decal and edges? Then after all decals use matte varnish??
Yep! That’s the process! Hope this was helpful! And sorry for waaayyyy late reply!
@@knightlypaintingstudioNo problem!!! It’s still helpful!! Thanks
This is fate, I discovered Shell Grit with lots of tiny sea shells in it and was just about to make a beach base with them, but I never used any kind of water resin before, this was very helpful for what I was planning to do.
Awesome! So glad this was helpful for you! 👍🏼
Is that the sotar
Yes it is!
Nice job! Did you use a lot of quantity of water gel on the bases? Just to cover the surface? I see you Water Gel jar is empty, did you use all of them for your Idoneth army?
Thank you! For the bases themselves it doesn’t take a ton of the water gel to get the ocean shore look that I achieved here, just a pretty thin layer to get the idea across! Most of that container was used for a 2x2 display board that I made for them. That one container would be all you would need and then some!
Definitely second on the process shown, from blank base to finished product
Thanks for the feedback! I will be sure to do a tutorial soon showing the process when I do a new unit for my Deepkin army!
can we see the process you going through making the base and maybe see how you would do a deep sea version of the base? lovely models and good content, keep it up, subbed
Thanks so much! Appreciate your support. I will definitely be doing an in depth video on how I did these bases in the future. As far as a deep sea version, are you looking for a resin pour or just how to make it look like it’s deeper in the ocean?
@@knightlypaintingstudio would have been deeper in the ocean but I worked something out now! Still be a good video!
Thanks for the video, mate - very intricate work. What PSI are you using? I'm really keen to get my new (better) airbrush techniques up to speed for base-coating. Thank you.
Glad that it was helpful Neil! So the PSI slightly changes for me dependent on the airbrush I’m using and how close to the model I am. In this video, I was likely running somewhere between 15-20 PSI with my Sotar 20/20 at such close range. Normally for less precise base coating I use my Badger 105 Patriot at 25-30 PSI. I would highly encourage you to try different PSI levels though, as each compressor can be slightly different, so use trial and error to figure out the sweet spot for your equipment!
i guess Im asking randomly but does anyone know of a way to get back into an instagram account..? I was stupid forgot the password. I would appreciate any assistance you can give me
@Byron Ellis Thanks for your reply. I found the site on google and im waiting for the hacking stuff now. I see it takes a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Byron Ellis it did the trick and I actually got access to my account again. I am so happy:D Thank you so much, you saved my account!
@Zander Kristopher Glad I could help :D
uhm good idea but bad video you should SHOW us how you did ....
Thanks for the feedback, and I completely agree! I made this video a while back for a group just to show the products and process, but I have plans to get a full tutorial video up eventually!
This is so cool! Love the details!
Thank you so much!
This is so awesome! 👍🏼👍🏼
