I can imagine some in-universe explanation for this series of games that one of the _many_ factories in Rhythm Heaven's world(most likely the Polyrhythm Widget factory) developed this translucency technology, and it became a fad where the characters in the scenarios with sequel games tried it out to see how their variations differ. Maybe there's some division of the world where the GBA rhythm games are, so it's just for that division, kind of like what Pokémon does with its regions for each pair of mainline games. In particular: It says in the Toss Boys' character bios(on the fan wiki, anyway) that they all like to mix up their performances by wearing different outfits and hair styles, hence why their sequel and Remix 5 appearances have them with different sets each time. So, honestly, them using some experimental translucency technique to both dress _and_ toss both twice-at-once is perfectly in character for them. I guess it could explain Polyrhythm's frantic-sounding doubled version in-universe, too, since it could represent their frenzy to keep up with the demand for such an experimental thing. (Yes, as you could probably tell, I'm a fanfiction writer. Haven't made an RH fanfic though, but I'm considering it. Not with this premise, though, exactly.)
