Use liqui moly engine flush, it will clean the engine and remove the sludge and makes the head cover clean and shiny like new, trust me, I have done this before with my old 2mz engine

To me I prefer to replace the four so there won’t be any excuses of we should have replaced the four. Once it’s replaced and the timing is set correctly. Will the noise stop?
Yes it's will stop if the noise is surely coming from the camshaft
