Here is the reason there was a McDonald’s in Adak. Patrol Squadron 40 a P-3 squadron was detached from Moffett Field California to Adak in 1976. Our Squadron was always trying to make a place better where ever we were sent, so someone came up with the idea of the first Adak Olympics. We contacted the McDonalds in Anchorage and asked if they would be willing to help us sell real McDonalds food to the Sailors, Marines and their families for the event. McDonalds was all in. They provided everything we needed, including a McDonalds rep to supervise. We loaded it all up and one of our planes rotating out of California to Adak loaded their plane with Coors beer and flew it up. To say we had one heck of a good time is an understatement. I’m not sure when McDonalds actually built the restaurant on the island but there were eventually over 6000 people on the island when the Navy ran it. I can say without a doubt VP40 and our little celebration is what inspired them.

I went to this McD's in 1986 while on the US submarine Permit, SSN 594, and at that time it was the most remote McD's in the world. I saw a bald eagle - symbol of our United States - eating out of the dumpster behind the restaurant... always thought that was somewhat ironic, but proves you'll do anything if you're hungry enough no matter your social status.

Does this count as a canonical “Fanatical Fans!” episode? I am a fan(antic) of the series.

It will forever be my shame that i never tasted the heaven that was sent to earth in the shape of a pizza that was served at mcdonalds.and i was born in 1978 so there is really no excuse. Because of my laziness i will never see heaven.i am damned.learn from my mistakes.
