Great video.
Jon - man this video series is a great primer for anyone wanting to look at improving over the “winter break”. As you noted, your book “The Four Foundations of Golf” is the perfect read to give greater detail to what you covered in this video…looking forward to the next one!
Thanks it’s been fun to make them!
Oh man... I also want to say - the broadcasters absolutely fawn over the pros. As a single digit golfer, there's nothing a tour pro can do that I can't (ok, maybe I'm not as long as Rory!). What the pros do different is consistency. They'll hit a few bad shots a round, I'll hit 10.
The vast majority of people I play with (like Saturday comp days etc) can't shape the ball. If you can't hit a draw or a fade, how can you know how to not hit those shaped shots. Learn to hit the ball with shape and your golf scores will tumble. Most poor ball strikers can putt and chip already. Most mid to high handicap players are trying to hit it straight. You almost never want to hit it straight
I've listened to you for years! First time I've seen ya 😊
Here I am! 😂
Galf.
Great advice Jon. I remember on a Michael Breed Anniversary show on the Golf Fix. He had a call with Mr. Nicklaus. He said, "Jack we have time for one quick tip." Jack said, "Take one more club!"
So simple 🤗
Taking lessons from someone who understands the concept of match ups is key….avoiding the teaching pro who has a one size fits most approach. Unfortunately, the good ones like Adam Young are hard to find!❤❤❤
Great video. As a parent/coach of a D1 plus golfer I'd say that this is all great advice. One caution we've run into is to know your carry numbers, but don't obsess over them, still try to play to your stock total with adjustments to conditions.
Surprised that the Arcos data shows avg driving distance decreased from 2017-2019. Any idea why?
Don’t think it’s anything meaningful
Thank you, I have your book and it is great!
Glad you enjoyed it!
The Dormie Club is quite the track, isn’t it??? Had the privilege of playing it twice!
Loved it!
So at one end of the game McIlroy needs to improve his long game and mid irons and his wedges and putting are not an issue? And from the back end, me, during COVID I could only practice from a hundred in, that's all the area I had for 3months lockdown. I went out on the first day back, scrambled 2 balls and shot 8 under for 9 holes. Wheres the numbers for these things you've learnt?
Thank you for sharing this Jon. I'm a faithful listener of The Sweet Spot and have found that the principles in your book in addition to what I learn from listening to you and Adam every week has really changed my approach to the game. Not only have my scores improved but my enjoyment of the game has significantly changed for the better.
Thanks for listening to the podcast!
Thanks Jon excellent information
Thanks for watching
Your book is great, still rate it as one of the best
Appreciate that 👍
Totally opposite to the money making golf swing clips that never get to the point - brilliant advice and stuff I’m working on in my own way. Good luck with the book - I’m sure it will be a great foundation builder of golf fundamentals for many.
Glad to help
Hi Jon, love your book and podcast. Have you got any advice on getting out of a slump, I shot a PB 41 on 9 holes and after that it’s like I have forgotten how to play golf 55 is hard.
Wish I could give you the answer quickly but just know it’s VERY common and sometimes you just need to let time pass and be patient
Georgia Golf Club ❤
You need the entire bag , it helps alot when you can drain putts to make up for your bad shots , but then again if you dont hit bad shots you need to recover from in your long game like your saying those putts are birdies not par saving .... i guess if you put all your approaches in the middle of tje green you only need to make 6 putts which is 33% to be 6 under...also if you miss a putt ots 1 stroke , if you hot a tee ball out of bounds its 3 off the tee...your probably right
Jon, as a beginner, this video was packed with so many valuable lessons that I hadn’t thought about before. 🔥 I’ve always assumed putting and short game were the most important areas to focus on, but your data-driven insights showed me that avoiding double bogeys and improving ball striking with the driver and irons are the real keys to lowering scores. I also appreciated the advice about taking more club on approach shots and aiming for greens instead of pin hunting-those simple adjustments seem like game-changers for beginners like me. Thanks for making these concepts easy to understand and actionable. Looking forward to learning more from The Four Foundations of Golf! Keep up the great work!🙏
Awesome! I'm with you on the data driven approach. It's a game changer.
Boom!
When are you going to convince Adam to start making videos again?😂
I’m trying!
Great info in rapid fire! For putting, isn't there an inflection point where putting past the hole is worse than centering the short-long dispersion?
Yes there’s definitely a balance of wanting the ball to finish slightly past the hole but not applying so much speed where you are having too many balls beyond. You have to be willing to leave some short if your speed is good
Thanks for this. Incredible stuff. Subbed. And I’m on my 2nd pass of your super helpful book. All the best JS!
Thank you! Much more coming 😀
Just fantastic stuff, Jon. The Four Foundations of Golf is what got me excited about golf again (5 years ago) and it's been upward and onward ever since...mostly. Golf is hard and everyone struggles from time to time. Your book and insights keep it real for me and I thank you for all that you do.
Love hearing this!!! Thanks for watching the video
Awesome video. So succinct
Glad you liked it!
This is a great video. Some of the best advice out there all wrapped up nicely.
Thanks for watching!
I play a lot of winter golf, my lower temp limit for playing is about 25'F. I play with a ProV1 exclusively. I find the carry distance reduction is fairly linear from 70'F down to about 40'F. Right around 40'F and lower, cary distance really drops off and is consistent from driver down to lob wedge. My stock 7i is about 187 yrds carry (93 mph club head speed), playing Titleist t100s. At 40''F and lower I'm a full club short-sometimes 1 1/2 clubs short, that equats pretty close to 10% and that's what I use for club selection. If you're carrying it 300 yrds at 70'F, you'd see about 270 max when it's 40'F out. This is what I see, year in/year out, at my elevation (2800 ft above sea level). Jon, you should target percentage loss vs yardage drop for cold weather (or increase for hot weather) as i'm sure you know club speed, launch, spin, etc, drive your carry distances and there's not set yardage drop, it will be specific to each golfer, thus % would be closer to a universal adjustment. Thanks for the content.
I just have a very limited mental budget overall
😂😂
Really enjoyed this and golf. How do you feel about mulligans if 2 friends are just playing a scramble and no one is really writing down scores? This is obviously when no one is behind you and no chance of making someone wait
I’ve got no problems with it
I usually just stay patient and take the lesser of 2 evils , if its a front pin i take the longer club if its a back pin i take the shorter club , depending where the easier up and down is on a miss...if its a middle pin i pick where the uphill putt is from, past the pin or short of the pin...inbetween clubs usually wont leave you off the green unless its a wide narrow type green then as i said eralier i take the lesser of the 2 evils , max 2 putt par , will go pin hunting when im on a number...i use zx7 originals so all i know is carry distance cus these clubs stop balls on dimes on greens
TY so much for the video I cant tell you how important it was for me to get to 1.7 ghin, by using distance. I am 61 still playing from 7000 yds. It is very hard to stay up to speed with driver. Gym 5 times a week, practice 3 hours for every 1 round played. Most will say " I dont have time". Guess what, I dont know whats on TV, I dont watch a hours and hours of nfl/mlb, etc every week, and thats what it took for me. (BTW if you want to watch golf for technique, watch LPGA.)
thanks for watching!
Where do you get those plastic tees?
Search Tomahawk NEO Golf Tee on Amazon
@ thank you. Purchased heading the simulator tonight. 👍🏼
I like the rich content and would not be in favor of “milking” these concepts for the benefit of creating more than one video. You can still do a deep dive on any one of them….but love the pace here.❤
Thanks! I think I can do both :) Still very early on for me with video so I will test and experiment
This is great golf wisdom.
Thank you
When you stand on the 1st tee realise how well things are going for you to even be there. You have the time to committ to a round of golf, and are in good enough health to do so. You can afford to pay for a round and to have the equipment needed and you have access to facilities to play golf. Remember this when you start to rage about a ball not going where you want it to.
Gratitude is a powerful emotion
Your books are really good. This was an inspiring and useful repetition.
Great! I was hoping it would help remind those who had read the book
Having a post shot routine is often overlooked and something I’ve struggled with (have to admit to be being a club thrower in my youth!!). I trying now to think in terms of ‘WIN’- What’s Important Next - after every shot. Work in progress! Read your book a number of times and frequently go back and use it for reference. Cheers.
Love to hear it. Thank you.
I’ve listened to you many times on your podcast and watched videos on youtube as well. I just purchased your book since winter is the perfect time to start thinking about how I’m going to improve my game for the upcoming season.
Thanks!!

Great insights as always Jon but I agree with the less is more crowd here. Max 3 thoughts per vid would be great and consistent with the concept of not having too many thoughts rolling around in our heads at once. Congrats on the channel and looking forward to future content.
Noted!
I really resonated with these tips. Especially not giving up. I can't tell you how many rounds I've started off stiff and can't find my groove, playing the first nine in the 40's. More often than not, I get my head in the game for the back nine and am able to score sub-40, salvaging the day with a score in the low to mid 80's. Not great, sure, but I would have shot in the 90's and wasted the opportunity to play well if I'd given up hope.
Glad you liked it
Jon! I have to say thank you so much because I had the most fun playing golf this weekend! All I’ve read so far is the first section on resetting expectations and it worked perfectly! Thank you so much!! 🙏🏽
That's what it's all about! 🙏
After two books and a whole lot of listening to the sweet spot, I’ve heard a lot of amazing info. I like this rapid fire because it reminds me of some of the highlights and I can pick a couple and practice them for a little bit and then come back to this video and pick out a couple new ones to focus on, constantly having little improvements will keep me moving in the right direction.
I love hearing that. This is a bit of an experiment for me so trying to figure out the format that resonates the most.
Check out Joel Turner’s Shot IQ, “Thoughts are not thinking…”
Still want to see Adam as an angry club thrower...
I will do my best to arrange it
Slipping in a humble flex with the Oakmont t-shirt. 🤣
let's gooooooo
All great advice. But rapid fire.
Well, I could read you the entire book, but that might take a while haha
I like the rapid pace. I've been through your book multiple times, so these serve as a quick refresher. Playing the back number and ignoring the pins has helped me tremendously, as has the section on grit. It helps.
Thanks! I'm going to experiment with different formats, but glad to hear these "bite-sized" reminders are helpful
