So much content! Can't wait to move to the expansions!
I would never allow scratch marks on my atlas 😮
I am thrilled by your video but I wonder about the re-playability of this type of game (?)
Thanks for watching! It’s a fair comment, it has less content than the other bigger games. I definitely want to get it out again as I took what I felt to be an “efficient” route towards the objective and missed out on adventuring in the world. I’d also like to demo it to people who are interested in the larger games but maybe don’t have the time to commit to a long campaign with me.
Would recommend checking out Food Chain Island
Ah I hear that a lot! I’ve not grabbed it yet, I think I wonder about the replay value of it.
One of my selling regrets :( Great choice of song BTW!
Thank you! I had fun choosing a song for that one. It’s such a neat little game!
Great list, thanks! It has motivated me to dig out my pnp copy of Galdors Grip to finally learn it! New subscriber, I look forward to more videos!
Thank you for watching! I’ll be uploading new content soon. I’m really hoping the production version of Galdor’s Grip is available soon as it’s such a good game.
What paper do you use fir the cards to pfint on
Oh goodness please don’t take any print and play best practice from me I’m so rubbish at it 🤣 I just used standard printer paper, if I print the fronts and backs on two different pieces paper of and then insert them into the sleeve then the card seems to be ok for my purposes. But I’m sure other people will be able to make more educated recommendations
Love galdors grip so much I got nicer sleeves and a corner cutter. Now will take a look at these others!
It’s so good isn’t it? I’m looking forward to a production version being available because my pnp skills are really dodgy.
I love playing friday and i want to try Three Sisters too. Thank you❤
I should do a play through of Three Sisters sometime in the autumn. It’s such a nice cosy game.
I love Galdor's Grip that i commissioned a print shop for a high quality printout. Im also looking to print this again on my own using linen sheets. It's a game that's a part of my everyday carry. I never leave the house without it along with my phone, wallet and keys, as well as my EDC gaming device, and my earbuds. :)
That’s a great idea!! Galdor’s grip is a brilliant game 🤩
I want to make galdor grip but dislike the art, so I made Creatures and Caverns instead
That interesting, the art is one of the things I liked about it. I haven’t heard of Creatures and Caverns; I’ll have to look into it. Thanks for watching!
Maquis rules
It’s amazing. Such a wonderful game, so much detail and story and complexity and variety in a tiny package. Exactly the type of game I love.
@@BoardGameBadger Agreed!
Very good games! Thank you!!!
You’re welcome, thanks for watching!
I love Doom Machine. I have Rove too, and I enjoy it (enough to have gotten both new versions on the kickstarter) but... man, that game needs an undo function. I'll be noodling around with the cards, trying to plot out possible moves, and suddenly I'll realize I don't remember the original position. Doesn't happen a lot, but one time is enough to spoil a run.
🤣🤣 it definitely needs an undo function! I’m not the best at spatial puzzles but I do enjoy Rove.
Just found this video, great list and some interesting new stuff to check out. Have subbed to see new videos from you. Would love to see a bump in resolution on your video.
Thanks very much, I’m working with quite primitive tools at the moment, I probably need to invest in a decent camera to make the content look better. Thanks for watching!
Put all wallet games in one video intro
Thanks for the suggestion!
If your cards stick...place them in a bag and sprinkle baby power in the bag. close and shake . YW
Great suggestion, thanks!
I have and love almost every game on this list! In terms of button shy, some of the others I really like are count of the 9 estates, space shipped, and ugly gryphon inn. In terms of other min tin games, I LOVE spearmint valley. If you haven’t heard of that one definitely check it out. It’s on game crafter
I cant play Robinson Crusoe anymore, its too depressing as only negative events and most of the time you lose unless you roll above average with the dice. Not fun
I was worried about it feeling that way when I first got it. I’ve just got the Book of Adventures, it’s got some slightly different types of scenarios in which look like they might be more achievable, or have a more “fun” theme. But it’s definitely a game that seems to divide opinion.
Cat solos boardgame!
She seems to solo most of my games 🤣🤣
Just discovered your channel and love it!
Thank you so much! I’m really glad you’re enjoying it. I hope to be back posting more content very soon!
Great playthrough, thanks. The combined missions you chose made it very tight so the priority for me would be to create the chemist lab first I think, knowing that both mission completions could have been made together and at the expense of a worker in each location (both are starred locations) I'm fairly new to the game, played only a handful of times but I do use a Tracker for the Malise - I feel it is something that works thematically - you would think that enemy patrols would have been studied during this period and patterns found in their movements, so for me I don't feel it in anyway breraks the game, I find it helpful but not a guarantee of success. I'm sure I've seen somewhere in BGG that the designer is ok with the use of a tracker too. However, I've seen other playthroughs with people not using one and they win often - but I think their memory is perhaps a little better than mine! Other Solo games you might consider (all on the lighter side): Skulls of Sedlec + Monstrance Solo Expansion, Trekking Through History using Solo 'Librarian' that can be printed out from their website , Port Royal + Just One More Contract Solo deck & For Northwood!. I've recently started to make PnP versions of games & really enjoy some of Jason Glove titles: Desolate, Iron Helm & Tin Helm - all great Solo games to play. Though if you don't want to do PnP, importing the games from The Game Crafter to the UK is crazy expensive. I also enjoyed your playthough of cascadia Solo - another favourite of mine. Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much for watching, and for your detailed comments. Yes, I think your approach would have improved my chances at winning, I must try again sometime with that mission combination: it was so tough! I think you’re right about the police tracker, I might give it a go to see how it affects my success. I didn’t realise Trekking Through History could be played solo: I love the overall look and artwork of that game so I’m very excited to hear I could solo it! I’ve ordered some Jason Glover games from the Game Crafter: his artwork is so cool and some of the mechanisms look really interesting. I did wince at the shipping cost! I usually have to wait for a few games I want to buy, then place a large order to make the postage worth while. I also keep looking at Port Royal, but I haven’t yet taken the plunge. I’ll add it to the list 🤩
Emma! Where’s your next video?! I really enjoy your channel and need more content 😅
Thank you for being keen for more content! I’ve been soooo busy both at home and work that I haven’t been able to make any content for a couple weeks. That’s coming to an end now so I’m planning on releasing more content within the next week. Thanks so much for watching!
Just found your channel and this is a great video. Exactly the type of games I'm looking for, and coincidently the kind I try to design. This is great, thanks!
Thank you so much for watching! It sounds like I’d enjoy the games you design, let me know if I should check any out 😊
@@BoardGameBadger I think you might like my solo clue themed game "Whodunit In Your Pocket". I have a recent overview video that's pretty decent, but I'm also working on an updated version of that game. I have some other good stuff, but all in the works at this point.
I love playing Friday and The bloody inn sometimes. Something that is on my list too is Three sisters.
Sounds like we have similar tastes! Thanks for watching!
I love Cascadia and Cartographers. Another game I play solo a lot is Calico. Lastly, I've just ordered Railroad Ink which I've played a bunch on BGA but I just want to have the physical game. I really enjoyed seeing you play through a few turns whilst also explaining how to play, it felt pretty natural and more like you teaching me in person rather than a more formal "how to play" tutorial type video.
Thanks for watching! I really wanted to give a sense of the different games so people could see if they work for them too. I’m glad you liked the format, I’ve got a video planned for February that I’m going to do in a similar style. I don’t have Calico although I love cats. I wasn’t sure if it was maybe a bit similar to Cascadia? I do like the look of Railroad ink. I think rolling to get the shapes you draw is a really neat idea, and it’s nice and compact which means it’s right up my street!
I appreciate that this isn't just a list of the 6 games, but you take the effort to show us the games and describe the gameplay
Thank you for your kind comments. I did want to give a sense of each of the games, as I tend to find I get a better feel for whether a game suits me if I can see the components and understand the gameplay.
you have the expansion The Cairnes? 🤣
I don’t! Do you recommend it? I’ve seen a few second-hand copies around
bloody inn is hilarious~ can be a UK parody TV series 🤣🏨🫠🔪⚰️💰👮♀️
Haha! It would make a brilliant TV series! What a great idea 🤣🤣 I had one hilarious game where policeman after policeman entered the hotel and I had to keep killing them because I couldn’t bury the bodies 🤣🤣
I also liked the inclusion of “here, I’ll play a little bit.” And the damning of the weather - even here in Texas it’s gloomy lately. Excuse to leave my bicycle in the garage and enjoy a little solo gaming.
Nice! 😂
Really appreciate this as I also like to have some relaxing solo game options for the very reasons you mentioned. I like that you gave each a quick play - very helpful. Bloody Inn looks right up my alley 👍 I have been playing small footprint, quick playing games like Orchard/Grove, Sprawlopolis, and Skulls of Sedlec with the Crown of Bones expansion which makes it solo.
I also like Skulls of Sedlec! I used to own Orchard but found I didn’t feel the game had a great deal of variety. I’ve been meaning to pick up Grove or the new one as the scoring objectives look like they make the game really variable.
We must have similar tastes, four of my five favorite solo games are on your list and I enjoy a couple others you have on here as well!
I like to solo play Legendary Encounters: Alien. It is relaxing, although it is a hard game to win (I always assume I'm going to lose).
Lost Expeditions, rolling realms, Dice Cards, Welcome to, Herbaceous, Floriferous, Fliptown and Rustling Leaves are a few games that i take when i go camping and just to relax. very fun games. easy travel games also.
The lost expedition is too tough. I won once, but it was thanks to a series of happy accidents.
I keep looking at Herbaceous as it oooks so relaxing. Lost Expedition is brilliant! But so tough!
@@BoardGameBadgerherbaceous and floriferous are both fun relaxing games. They are from the same publiaher
why no subtitles? Please set your language to english. TIA 3:50 add painter's tape on the back of the squares to give them enough friction. And your lamp has terrible glare. Friay btw has 4 loss conditions, one is not in the book. FF found the 4th while playing the app version. If you're capable of print and play, Rove, Ancient Realm, Galdor's Grip may be for you. Myself I would play Shephy, or Palm Island but both are probably too simple for you.
Thanks for the feedback. As I may have said elsewhere I’m very new to this and still learning how best to film and edit, and my equipment is extremely rudimentary at the moment. Over time I’m sure the technical aspect of my videos will get better as I develop more skills.
@@BoardGameBadger TH-cam Studio settings have nothing to do with equipment. Simplifying stuff to bother with in your life by automating them. I had to change my settings since I include the year of filming from 2023 to, well, 2024. It pays to look into these. youtube studio settings that you can set once: your tags (include your youtube name there), playlist descriptions, captions, native language and timestamps. HTH ♥
Love that Face Mx
Cant wait until you do a solo how to play through video on this one. Great game!
how much did the box cost you?
I think it was about $30
@@BoardGameBadger Nowadays the cost (first an second hand) is €45-50 inc. shipping. Maybe it was 30 GBP?
If your friend gets his miniatures painted would you please post a video of the completed ones?
I certainly will!
Would you consider doing a play-through of this one?!
I certainly would! It’s great fun. I will add a play through to my list. I’ll also be featuring the game in an upcoming video…
Glad you decided to spotlight this one! I’m also a solo gamer and love to learn about new options.
I’m glad you enjoyed it, and thank you for watching! Maquis is a brilliant little game.
@@BoardGameBadger I ordered it of course. 😝
Question. What character was the starting player?
Since I played solo… I had ALL the characters. I think you can choose who goes first. The active player always controls the captain.
@@BoardGameBadger wouldn't you have to rotate the "active player" turn amongst the crew? Like active character has also the captain. Maybe I am mistaken, I have not played the game yet, though :)
I got this one too. But it doesn't hit the table often and I'm thinking of selling it... but maybe I should give it another go. I love the theme and the artwork a lot!
It’s such a great looking game!
Sleeping Gods? Blechhhhhhh 🤢🤮 Once the campaign is done, there is no interest in playing again, especially because it’s the same exact crew you play with.
That’s an interesting take on it. I’ve played a few campaigns now and I still find reasons to go back, mainly because I’ve not explored all of the content.
In my opinion the most Woefully Underrated board game out there. LOVE this one!!
I’ve really been enjoying it! It’s delightfully macabre, easy to set up and quick to play.
Great video and lots of great games in there. Keep up the amazing solo content creation we need it!
Thank you Daniel! 🤩
Great video and im happy I found this channel. More channels dedicated to small inexpensive boardgames are needed. Postage is killing a lot of us international hobby game fans. Keep up the great work. I subscribed.
Thank you so much for watching and subscribing, and for the feedback. Interestingly enough I have a bit of a ramble/ rant planned about postage when my copy of Gloomhaven Buttons and Bugs arrives, because it was an absolutely ridiculous price.
Im waiting for it to land in Australia too.@@BoardGameBadger
I just bought this because of your recommendation
I hope you enjoy it! Let me know how it goes 🤩
Nice games 😁 A suggestion if I may: if you have the time, please add timestamps😊 I sometimes like to jump back to a game to get an information or suchlike. 🍀
Thank you! I will look into how to do timestamps, it’s lack of skills rather than lack of time that’s prevented me doing it so far 🤣 thanks for the feedback.
