I used to windsurf as a teenager until surfing took over. 25+years later I rediscovered my passion for this amazing sport. I am learning to wavesail - this channel is my journey: A place where I can learn from errors made, relive great sessions, and share the joys of windsurfing in Cornwall - UK.
20 - 30Kn & a few ramps @ Marazion - Windsurfing Cornwall
This is my second session of the day. After a nerve-wracking experience in well-overhead surf at Sandy Acres, I headed to Maza for some cross-shore bump & ride fun. Had a blast!

Sometimes you get up early and the forecasted wind is nowhere to be seen until you see 'your tree' (we all have one) dancing a little wilder in a gust. You make your coffee and go and have a look - because you are up - and because a coffee on the beach beats a coffee in your kitchen. Looking out over the ocean you see the wind line creeping closer to shore - dark patches with big holes, especia...

After some time with light winds and no waves, we finally had some (light) wind and jolly waves (3-4ft). Godrevy was breaking nicely on the incoming tide.

A lovely Spring Saturday in Cornwall. We had sailed starboard tack early in the morning on the other side, yet I thought there may be some good leftover wind and waves on port tack at The Bluff - Hayle. Got lucky.

Very nice, bringing up some 2023 memories. Aloha another dutch waverider 🤙🏽
Nice Bart, and some good shots of Jonty too.
Well done Bart. At least you had enough energy left for the climb back up to the car park.
Session 1, found the size of the surf a little intimidating - went for a bump & jump on the south coast afterwards th-cam.com/video/FEuz02MqtVo/w-d-xo.html
Session 2 - after finding too little courage on the west side earlier - th-cam.com/video/IUe5v616zHk/w-d-xo.html
had a great time, full power on 4-7m 109l Quantex 😊
First and last wave😂
Nice clean waves, light wind, perfect. I plan to come to Cornwall for a week between Oct 12th and Oct 22nd. Will pick a window a few days before based on the forecast. Would prefer 14-20 knots days with waist-high waves instead of >25 knots and mast-high sets. Can I place an order for these conditions somewhere?
If there is a big storm it’s big everywhere but often you can pick your conditions. In SW winds for example you have multiple port tack options varying in wave size, plus you have cross on starboard tack options too. The devils wind here is N or NW, however combined with solid swell you get an estuary option with manageable surf. Super tide depending like all Cornish spots but I ll guide you through it.
beautiful spot and beautiful conditions. sick board by the way, witchcraft lover myself too😎
Shame the water was a little brown from the previous day’s rain and storm. What witchcraft kit do you use?
Love those float and ride days! beautiful clean waves, just a dream. nice riding Bart!
You would love Cornwall Marc
The day after. Nice long waves.
You got some nice long runs in-between waves Bart looking at the playback on Surfline. I think we had the best of it today. The St Michael's Mount run from Roskilly was lovely. Clean wind and nobody else around.
Seems we did. Does the Surfline cam pan out towards Penhale?
@windsurf888 Not really. It's at the western end of the beach, so you're a long way off in the distance, but it gives a good indication of the run length.
Do you sail alone?
Only in known territory, early sessions at lesser sailed spots are inevitably going to have very few sailors…and none today.
I see you have your Power Ranger suit on
Ha yes. My special power is finding wind and waves 🤪
Early bird catches the worm
Dat zal ik zeker doen! Ik zit zelf niet op IG maar mijn dochter heeft je een berichtje gestuurd via IG met mijn mail-adres.
Your video's have inspired me to plan a trip to the st Ive's bay in October this year (from the Netherlands). Maybe we will even run into each other. Well, not literally I hope. Also Witchcraft gear by the way.
Ha! Goed werk.
Kun je me mailen op ron_gijzen "at" hotmail - punt - com ? Hopelijk laat TH-cam dit bericht staan. Heb al diverse keren geprobeerd maar het is net of het steeds direct wordt gewist.

Happy days Bart
Wind (well, some...) at last! See you on the water!
Such a beautiful spot! Is it always onshore or you get some side or off shore as well? Great shooting 🤙🏻 GoPro max?
Insta 360 X3 👍. plenty side and cross offshore days there too
Hi have you used the witchcraft footstraps. The white and black. Are they good? I see that you use Dakine. Best regards Karim
Hi Karim, yes I use the witchcraft ones, mostly on my 100&120L baoards for lighter winds. For this one (86L) I find the dakine better as you get in the straps more blindly when all is on the line. The witchcraft straps are harse on the feet when you miss them and bump your toes on the edges
@@windsurf888 Thanks! And do you think they work as good with shoes?
@@kassfahany8801 they do as you can set them narrow and high - and asymmetric too - see how here witchcraft.nu/accesoires/footstraps/ Note that the asymmetric setting works well on narrower boards (60cm and below) - on my bigger boards I found the asym setting working against me whilst waveriding...
Why do you have one bootie and one barefoot?
well-spotted! I cut my foot on the rocks at Mylor Harbour on a flat day windsurf session a few days earlier and the booty is keeping sand and grit out of the wound.
Another superb short vid it looks great . Fantastic cornish scenery and good windsurfing
I like to relive good conditions, and having a 2 or 3 runs is the best way of doing so...

colours are amazing, Well done Bart
ST IVES BAY IS THE BEST FOR WATER COLOURS THIS TIME OF YEAR
Hi! What a nice board. Are you happy with it? BR Karim
Really happy. I have a 86L as well (this one is 100L). The one in the background is an oversized one for light wind.
you made a bad day look good 😂
🌞⛅🌦
Nice backie yellow sail
Made sure I sailed close enough to capture it. Andy King flying.
Hi Bart, nice riding! nice swell lines. the dune climb keeps the crowds away 🙂
True, the track uphill with all the wet gear is not for the faint hearted 😱🤪
Hey Bart, what camera are you using? Great video.
Hi Rob, Thank you, the camera is working well, I am pleased with it although its predecessor had some issues. I use the Insta360 One X3 (avoid the X2, I had 2 going wrong - the USB port door on these isn't very waterproof - Inst360 improved this on the X3). I am still learning to use it properly, but I have figured out that mounting the cam at a 90 degree angle to the mast with the cams facing front and back gives the best angles. It also stops the extension arm to drop on the joins when you use the flymount and a small aluminium extension bar (buy these on amazon instead of Insta360 - much cheaper). I have also just worked out its zoom function in the desktop editing suite so in my last 3 videos I am playing around with this which allows me to bring in footage from other sailors around me (which makes the videos more fun I think). There is plenty to like about the cam, which so far is doing great: my only small critique would be the battery life - which is around 80-90 minutes depending on temperature, but to work through that amount of footage is quite a big job so in a way I don’t mind it - in fact, I often sail with the cam for 30-45 minutes to capture the vibe to avoid lots of post edit time. Unless conditions are good of course!
Amazing 😍
Well done Bart good little video 🎉
It was a fund day, glad I had the time to go out. Sounds like many spots in Cornwall has fun conditions!
Worth the climb back up the dunes. 4.5M sail & 86L board.
Thanks for sharing ❤
Wow amazing 😍❤
Hello, loving your videos. 🤙 I am a long time windsurfer who is relocating from Devon to Penzance area Aug/Sept time and would love to connect with you. What’s the best way to reach you? FB or other?
You'll be a Marazion local! We sail there a lot, no doubt our paths will cross. I am Bartholomeus Bart on FB.
We visited this area two summers ago. Catching up with the uk family. No wind but a beautiful location.
I broke my nose sailing there, would love to saying hitting a goiter or similar... facts are a good old catapult
Ouch, windsurfing ‘war wounds’
Nice filming and Daymer looks fantastic - can't wait to sail here with you guys =)
Nice! Takes me back as I haven't sailed there since 1986.
That looked like Daymer not at its best
I put the cam away after a few runs - the tide dropped and it looked wavey on the other side so we sailed over to hawkers/harbour cove - too much west at the daymer side means perfect sideshore over there - it didn't disappoint: multiple jumps sailing out and riding lines back in...
🌞 Sunshine, cold winds
Sort of zero action windsurf film..One day ago here in Brittany it was over mast high - where were the waves in Cornwall?! Yawn!
Thankies for making a nice video!
How well does that Ezzy mast work with the Witchcraft sail? Great video btw. I love the uncut continuous film, with no music!
TNX! I aim to show the waves and the general vibe of the session - I think it makes it more relatable and it is also heaps of fun for me to watch afterwards as I get to relive it! EZZY MASTS: Bouke used to be the Ezzy distributor on the Canaries. His sail designs are inspired by 'all good Ezzy' plus the Witchcraft magic. Same drive and stability but less 'spongy'. I like the ezzys too still, my 4.0 and 6.3 are ezzys but for the 'bread&butter' winds 17-24Kn I have Karmas in 5.6/5.0/4.5. Bouke told me the ezzy masts are fine, and they are. The 90% carbon witchcraft broomstick made them even more stable, however, I kind of like the slightly softer feel I get from the ezzy legacy mast (I tell myself so I don't have to spend eye-watering money on 90% carbon masts). The Witchcraft sails are soo good, yet, the mast pad is utterly below par (hence you see me sail with an 80's style mast base pad - I was over having to deal with small mast dents in the deck, which on Witchcraft boards you can easily restore luckily).
Another hard morning at the office Bart 😊
Haha, don't worry: some office time was duly served afterwards!
Good speed…wave 2 please..do you do home deliveries?
