Nice video! Was your hike done during the month of August? I'm planning a Granite hike and trying to figure out the best time of year. Looks like a fair amount of snow.
Nice video thanks
New here! North metro here. Proud Minnesotan, I also have some Ely content, but mines on a motorcycle, lot less brave than you are. I'm watching 👀 now my brother! Thanks man! If you ever make it to Ely, motel Ely is a great place to stay, I know the owners and they are awesome people with an awesome place to stay on your journeys. Stay warm brother, you've got a new subscriber in me.🍀
Loved the bison
Nice,,, last year I had to wait for almost mid January before I went due to it being so warm and ice conditions.
Thanks. Tricky weather sometimes. Reminds me of the movie "Never Cry Wolf." Don't want to fall through the ice, but the BWCA wilderness is amazing it all its brutality and beauty.
That's a death march to hike it there and back. I walked it one way in 2015 and there were a few hundred trees down. It took 4 days one way.
Nice video, wanted to try this place. Guess we'll see what happens over that next week with temps, probably end up in the U.P.
I wouldn't recommend trying it now. We just received a couple inches of rain and the lakes are an absolute mess around Ely. This route would be dangerous at best now with all the moving water and lack of snow. Good Luck!
It is a beautiful place. The U.P. is awesome too.
@@sleepinbearadventures By the way, that duck looks like a goldeneye. It's amazing how they can survive in the small pockets of open water during the winter here.
Question- highest percentage isopropyl alcohol I have seen at drugstores in my area is 91%. Do you think that will work?
Cool. I grew up backpacking w\ hella oldschool heavy-azz propane stoves, and been looking into trying for more towards ultralight these days (or at least, lighter). I had heard of pop can alcohol stoves but wasn't sure how to go about making one. Thanks for the clear & simple tutorial 👍

My parents honeymooned at the hot springs in the early 1950s. I have hiked there many times in the 70s and 80s on the way to the Bailey Range. My parents drove there to a resort in their day. In my day it was less than a 5 mile walk. Sounds a lot tougher now. Thanks for the post.
Nice hike and video. Beautiful scenery from the top. Thank you for sharing 😊

Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed both the video and the comments.
Amazing!
One of my favorite places to backpack. I'm glad you had a good time.
Amazing job
Some people are so cheap and need to learn how warranties really are ment to work. If you get holes in your socks, that is t i be expected at some point. It's not a manufacturing defect. When you wear out your socks, you buy new ones. It's not a warranty issue 😂 common 🤷♂️🙈
Darn tough states that their socks have an unconditional guarantee for life. It's not a regular warrantee.
Amazing job! How long did this take?
Amazing!, how where the waters? I just purchased some Kayaks, and want to get some more experience before trying a feat like this, absolutely amazing.
Waters are pretty tame. Around 2mph. 5mph at St. Louis. Easy to get lost in northern Minnesota's lake flowages. Paddling up from the gulf of Venice, La in the eddie's of the south pass are slow and full of gators.
Probably watched this a dozen times in the past few days. I leave for NM in early next month. Thanks for sharing your experience, and happy trails!
great videos!!
Cold soaker?
Yes. Put certain dry food in small container with water for about 30 minutes. I mostly used ramen noodles, small flavored instant potatoes, instant flavored oatmeal, cocoa, instant coffee. Others work too.
Wow. Really neat. Thank you.
Thank you for the beautiful video. 🤓
What month were the SanJuan’s?
Like the sun shirt with the open buttons for venting. Do you know the brand?
Raw yarn ind. From Sierra.
Thanks for the video, and I'm looking forward going through some of your other content. I'm curious which shoes you used and how many pairs you went through?
I used 2 pair of Merrel moab 2 vent shoes and one pair of Arc'teryx lightweight boots a friend gave me.
Toenail clipper with knife? ... where did you get that from? I'd like to go from a clipper AND knife to just one implement!
And a bottle opener and can opener. I got it at gander mountain now called gander outdoors in fishing equipment.
There is a little Swiss army knife with clippers on it (and other helpful stuff)
Thank you for sharing. Very inspiring. I hope to follow your footsteps April 2023. Thank you again.
Your the first person I've seen with the turkey oven bags. They are worth the extra protection imo.
Thermarest can repair/replace your pad they just sent me one. No hassle.
I liked it a lot. Keep on doing what you’re doing Mark.
Thanks Dale.
Thanks for a look into your adventures. Keep on keeping on and stay safe.
I would never make it. Extremely beautiful. Keep on keeping on. I can’t wait for Wyoming.
Awesome ❤
Thanks for the great taste of what you’re doing, can’t wait for the next segment. Hope to catch up in person sometime soon.
Go Mr Bear Go!
Is it possible to kayak the river backwards? From Louisiana, north to Wisconsin
Yes but much harder.
Well done!
Thanks
The continental divide trail must be your current adventure. Safe and happy trails!
Amazing. How long was this journey; and what was your average mileage each day? Is there much of a current to help move pull you along ? Update: just saw your response about length if time and miles per day,... below. 72 miles a day ?! That must've been some current !
I'd paddle strong sunrise to sunset. Current was between 0 and 5 miles an hour but mostly just under two. Many variables contributed to Miles paddled; wind, dams, locks, Portages, weather, and how much beer I drank.
Congrats. You passed right through my city. I hope to take the same journey someday.
Nice going! How long did it take and what was your average daily mileage? Are there any technical sections on this river?
Thanks. It took 57 days. Miles per day ranged from 25 to 72. Less miles up north.
Wow! That was quite the adventure!! Thanks for sharing.
