This is my new design for equatorial platforms. They have a lot of useful function, which you can see in the video. I developed 3 types from 40 to 55° northern latitude. From now it can be ordered. For more info check this: tms-astro.eu/

Do you have plans?
Gyönyörű munka! Most próbálom megérteni, hogyan is működik ez a csoda, a jelek szerint rajtam kívül már mindenki érti :D
Gr8 success!!
Is that a piston that stays in whatever position you put it in?
If you have any reference/sources of this method please post 🙂 Very interesting

Wow!😅
Do you have one that supports 20 - 30 degree latitude? And can ship to US?
I have platforms only from 30 degrees. It can be used at lower latitudes, but need to be tilted more. I can ship to US. tms-astro.eu/
Hi. Do you ship these to the United Kingdom?
Hi, yes I can ship to the UK.
That looks so cool I wish i could buy this
Very good
These look well made. Are you still producing them ?
Yes, I'm still producing them.
Hallo Tamas, I like you design! What diameter do the wheels have? I only found 260mm diameter, but your look smaller.
Hello, the wheels are 10" in diameter.
Hello, in another video (maybe the 1st version of the equatorial platform, not sure) I saw that the speed of the motor is preprogrammed. That means that the speed of the motor is related to the arc of the bearing I assume. Would you please explain how you would determine that?
Hello, the known data is the diameter of the drive cone, which comes from the design. The revolution of the drive cone is 1 rev /24h. The drive cone is driven by a drive wheel, which has a smaller diameter, creating a gear ratio. In most cases, an additional transmission is needed at the motor as well. Therefore, the speed of the motor can be calculated based on the speed of the drive cone and the gears.
Greetings Horvath, can you give me the information to this mount as I live in Australia and would love to make this for my 8" Dob. Kindest regards.
Dear Todd. It is a very old design, and I used it only for few weeks because of it's limitation. For tracking an eq-platform would be a much better choice. tms-astro.webnode.hu/
Incredible stick welding brother
Why do all scope dollys have straight up pipe seats for a tripod leg that sets on at a angle?
I made it for a Dobsonian. Therefore the straight pipe.
I have just acquired a Scope Buggy and I would like cylinders that approximate the angle of the tripod legs. Right now, I am going to modify the hubs on some Harbor Freight 13" Wheels so that it rolls easier through the lawn.
Very nice!
I know the Hungarian elves are busily building great eq platforms for all the good little dobsonian mount telescopes out there. I'm hoping Uncle Nicholas will come early this year...🎅
Just checking if there might be any updates on shipping of these platforms...
I am looking forward to ordering one of these when available in 2023. I am at 37.5 degrees north latitude in the US so I am hoping you will offer the 3540 model as it would be perfect.
What is the name of this antique way?
I don’t know, sorry. But it can be used very limited. An eq-platform is much better for tracking.
Does the version of the platform depend on how far north or south that I live or where I will be using my scope? I'm in North America, United States and I live in a town called Idaho Falls in the state of Idaho. I also travel to Southern Utah and use my scope there as well. There's several hundred mile difference.
It is depend on where you would like to use it. Idaho Falls coordinate is around 43 northern latitude, so you should buy the model 4045. From this year it will be possible to order the segments separately, so you can easily change it, and the controller can be adjusted to the other model. It means if you buy a model 4045, you can order annadditional segment set, for example 3035 or something.
Nicely done.
Interesting design! I built similar but made a U shaped part that holds the rings and bearings (brass/Teflon in my case) which allows the rings to be opened for removal of the OTA or rotating the OTA easily. I used a lazy Susan bearing to replace the record which turns better than my record allowed. I inserted a tiny 1/4" thrust bearing at the top of the center pivot which also helped the smooth operation. Fun stuff to play with.
Worst part is the music
Nice work, looks a bit much for me to tackle so I will buy one :)
There is a new model, check this: th-cam.com/video/RtwYDuN-j54/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=Horv%C3%A1thTam%C3%A1s
Cette table est vraiment excellente. Le suivi en visuel assisté est plutôt bon. J'en acheté une a Horvath Tamas merci a lui
I'm really interested in purchasing one of these for an 8" dob. I tried clicking the link you provided below and it seems to not function. What are your prices?
Please try this link: tms-astro.webnode.hu/eq-platform/ For me worked the original link too.
good job
Absolutely amazing build video! Thankyou! I want one!

Very clever design!
Really tidy design! I love how you used two layers to create a template for your parts as an assembly aid. There was some hand drilling where I couldn't see how the drilling locations were marked - not sure what you did there. I'm an apartment dweller without a workshop and hope to design something like this, using commercial or makespace CNC or 3D printing of an easy-assembly design. The shapes look really sleek, with excess weight cut away - they make plywood sexy. (Though I appreciate all the astronomers who do have manual woodworking skills and home workshops too, who also make very functional platforms!)
Thank you! I have made an advanced design, which is bigger, more stable, and the tracking is more precise. th-cam.com/video/RtwYDuN-j54/w-d-xo.html
I think he used the spikes from the threaded nuts to mark the 4x screw holes for the feet
Hi, are you still making these?
Hi, from spring it will be available again: tms-astro.webnode.hu/
Hi, very original idea! May I ask you how do you align the rotational motion with the polar? Is there a correct inclination of the shaft? What is the fixed point where the rod must be anchored? Should it be set to 180 ° azimuth? Thanks.
This is an old technic, not my idea. The altitude pivot point of the Dob, and the pivot point of the additional mechanism point to the Polaris. The disadvantage is, that this mechanism can be used only at the Southern sky. I mean from E to W.
Fantastic!
Do focus only between 40 to 55 latitude?
Currently yes, but in future i want to develop for other latitudes too.
Superb cool telescope 🔭❤️ dear, thank you for informational video... Fully enjoyed 😀💖🎁🎁🎁🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I hate rock.
Can you take long exposure images with this?
It is designed for visual observing. I don’t do photography.
I know someone using this eq platform. He can reach 5s exposure with a 250/1200. That's pretty good for EEA (Electronically Assisted Astronomy) or lucky imaging !
@@wildemas 5 second exposure? That seems short.
@@Finlaymacnab it's difficult to have more with an eq platform. 5s is still enough for deap sky with a small sensor.
Like many, I am extremely fascinated by what you have constructed here! This is such a simple and elegant approach to basic tracking for a Dob. I understand that an EQ platform is better, but I still want to learn more about this method and replicate it for my telescope. I would just be using it for Southern sky observation from 40 degrees lat. I have researched old methods and can't seem to find anything on this. So, Horvath, is there a name for this method? Who invented it? Your lower pivot point is raised from the base. Is there a calculation for that? Any math or specs you can share with us will be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much for revealing this technique! Well done!
IIRC this is a Quasi-Equatorial mounted Crawford-Dobsonian telescope. It mimics an equatorial mount, but lacks the rotation aspect that a true equatorial mount demonstrates.
Very good! What is the reduction ratio of your gearbox?
Nice work, how do you reset it?
It works automatically. Check the link in the description.
Best part is the music
That's very clever. I guess the Alt control varies with the declination? Now, if you want to take long exposure shots, you will need to motorize it and compensate the angle variation at the eye piece. Loved the idea.
It’s a very very old design. For tracking with dobs is a much better option an eq-platform. th-cam.com/video/RtwYDuN-j54/w-d-xo.html
I am here to add to the voices of the comment section in asking if you have any plans you might share for this.
Hello! It's an old design, the plans no more available.
@@horvathtamas3476 Aw, too bad. Thanks anyway!
@@horvathtamas3476 please please please find the plans! who know you might be able to make a few $$
Looks good, what are the specifications on each model? Do you have one that can handle a 22" dob? at least 150 pounds. What are the prices? Do you have a website?
In the past a have made a big platform (called megalodon), but the demand was very low. Currently a have no website, only a facebook page: facebook.com/Tms-astro-532732757170654/
Very well done! Where I can find / buy the blueprint?

How can I get this sketch?
the world needs more information on this design. how do you make it, where do you get the parts? do you sell these?
That was just an experiment, i don’t use this mount. A perfect mount with smootly turning is much better solution.
Hello from a fellow Hungarian (well half, on my mother's side). That's a great build. Would you be able to tell me what motor you used?
Hi, this is a stepper motor with gearbox. I have a new design, you can check it on facebook: facebook.com/Tms-astro-532732757170654/
