Just a quick video to explain how I have tackled studying in LPN school. This is based purely on my own experience so take from it what you want and make it your own. I'm here to help anyway I can!

I received a question about math in the program and I wanted to make a quick video that explains what math you'll run into in an LPN program. I know math is a scary thing, but I've gotta say that the rest of the stuff we learn and get to do makes up for it!

I have started my journey to nursing and I would love for you to join me! This is a little bit of an introduction plus an review of the Clove brand shoes I got for Nursing school and for my job as a CNA. Thank you so much for joining.
Honestly, the pharmacy takes care of a lot of those dosage type situations, but they do want you to have a solid foundation of knowledge and understanding of how it works.

What school did u go too? Is it in miami fl. Because some school requirements are to pass hesi admission assessment exam Do u have to have a GED to be able to do LPN program. Because my tech school said that with my nutrition assistant certification that i qualify for financial aid.
The math u did in lpn school is what grade in math ?9-12grade math.

Are you in Texas or California? Can I ask what school you go to?
I’m actually in Oklahoma! It’s a technical school so not really a college. The other classes they have are things like phlebotomy, CNA, MA, but also things like welding, fabrication, computer science. Lots of high schoolers went to vo-tech. But they had a few programs like LPN for adults.
Did you have to take the TEAS EXAM for the votech classes? And also, did you have to take other classes like prereqs? My employer will pay for my LPN training.

Did they allow u to use a calculator? I hope so cause I’m awful at math😩😭
They allow a simple calculator! In school they provided one for us, during the NCLEX there was a pop up calculator on the computer. I never used it though.
I also wanted.to know this secretly.

If I didn’t already do lpn math I’d be scared, it’s not as scary as she is making it. As long as u know how to do BASIC multiplying and dIviding you’ll be fine
And pharmacology isn’t really about the drugs, but more so about the side effects, adverse effects, diets (PAY ATTENTION IN NUTRITION CLASS!) patient teaching and if something happens bc of the drug “WHAT ARE U GUNNA DO?!” That’s all pharm is about.
Thank you for your comment! I didn’t mean to make anything sound scary, I just wanted to lay out the math we had to learn which included conversions, fractions, and decimals. My videos are all about being transparent about what I was taught in my program. I wanted to include all of it, not just what is used for the common dosage question.
However, you do need to know what the drugs are and what their purpose is as well. I received a lot of “so what does this do” in clinicals and preceptorship. Instead of learning every single individual drug, I found it easier to go over the suffix that went with each classification.
@@aleciakay1362 I didn’t say that you don’t have to know what the drug does, that goes without saying. Generally, ppl that get to Pharm are typically confused bc they’re so fixated on the drug, instead of what is being tested, which is the things stated earlier.

Hey girl! Is LPN nursing school 12 months before taking the NCLEX?
Our program is a total of 13 months and then we have to wait a couple weeks for paperwork to get situated and then we can take the NCLEX-PN after we schedule it.

Hi, just curious what textbooks is your program using?
Our books are F.A. Davis books. Most of them anyway. The maternal newborn book was different.

We did not have to take the hesi for our program. I will have to take it for an RN program though so I can make on on it later.
Our books are all ebooks and we work off 2 separate websites for school which makes everything more confusing! We also are the first class of this school so we are kinda the controls in this experiment. I’m not enjoying the way the classes are structured but I’m only a week in so I’m praying it gets easier! I also am used to being a disabled stay at home mama and not have to do daycare and an entire new schedule at home…thank you for these videos!
They threw 4 different sites for homework at us in the first week and it was definitely overwhelming. I would suggest a very detailed planner and to check assignment due dates frequently. We were the first for a new software and new books so I understand being the Guinea pigs! I hope it gets easier to handle for you. Good luck!

Medsurg is almost impossible.
It was a pretty difficult class. It definitely took a ton of time studying to get through.
I’m just passed the Lvn entrance exam and will start Intro to Lvn in 2 weeks, if I passed the intro I will be accepted to join the LVN program in May. I’m excited but nervous. I feel like I’m too old to go back to school.

Did you have to complete prerequisites? If so, how long did it take for you to complete it?
I did. I had to do medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and medical math. It took me a couple months to complete all of them but mine were self paces and 100% online.

In my LPN program we have to have an 80. And they don’t round at all.

Mine is an 80 as well. I just started last week 🙏🏻 11 months, single 39 year old mama with a 2 year old and 17 year old. I’m overwhelmed but I keep telling myself I can do this!

I’m a senior in high school and plan to go straight to an Lpn program after high school (the school does not require prerequisites) I’m scared bc many ppl say it’s hard since it’s very fast paste and I’ll be 18 and I feel like most ppl who go into Lpn school are older is it really hard ??? 😭 I’m so scared to not pass
Everyone takes a different path to get to the same point. The program is difficult. We are training to care for people in their most vulnerable state, we’ve got to be prepared for that. If this is something you really want, give it all you’ve got. You won’t be perfect at everything, but if you’ve got the passion and put in the work you’ll be okay. My grades aren’t perfect, I struggle with tests, but I’m still in it. You’ve got this!

Thank you for your helpful video. I want to go for Lpn but I got usa before 3years ago I am working as phlebotomists right now. i want to ask is that easy to do lpn for me? And I didn’t have major in science when I was in school I am having associate degree in Accounting. What do you think for me can I do? Because Inam really interested to do Lon but scared little bit.
If you are new to the states certain programs have an additional test for you to take, other than that it’s whatever the prerequisites are for the program your applying to. My program required medical math, medical terminology, and anatomy&physiology without a lab. My advice is to do some research in programs and get ahold of the admissions person to get a checklist of what you need. Then you can start working through it.
It will be easy who have some high level school so just go don’t afraid
Question how long is your program? My program is 16 months!! Nursing school is no joke!!!! You got this keep pushing you are to close!!!
The LPN program is 13 months, we’ll be finishing up in March! I’ll be applying to an RN program that’s 16 months starting next year. It really isn’t! Thank you!

It’s not as bad as you’d think it to be! It’s also not a massive part of the education so the suffering is minimal, lol.
YES! I totally agree. All my life I have tried avoiding doing anything that has to do with math just because of my bad experiences in elementary school. I am looking for a career change. My mom and a nurse at my place of work asked me to try and do nursing, but I have always Said that it wasn't for me, just because of my fear of maths and messing up. I need to know that I will be okay if I decide to take the LPN program. I am afraid of messing up and getting embarrassed.
Making mistakes is part of the process. That’s why we have assignments, tests, lab simulations, and clinicals. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes, especially while you’re still under the supervision of an instructor. I get being scared of it, but they’re something to embrace and learn from. If you’ve got the passion to care for people I believe you’ll make it through!

Thanks for the question! The short answer is no, you don’t need to be great at math to become an LPN but I’ll make a video with more of an explanation! 😊

Math is a big part but not like RN have to do
