Interesting. But in my Opinion, the PAO System is way more sophisticated. I created one and it works fine for me. If you use a 00-99 PAO you can put 6 digits on one spot in your memory-palace. I don't like how the dominic system is organized. I recommend to create ten rooms with differend categories and for the names use the major system. It is much easier. So ... the first digits tells you which category you are in (actors, comedians or youtubers etc.) the second digits tells you the name (according to the major-system). Of course you have to practise a bit.
If you already use PAO, there is no point in downgrading to PA. PAO is actually based on Person Action (PA) System, which is taken to a higher level by adding an object to each character. In this way, with a single PAO image you memorize 50% more than the PA system.
I am currently using the regular master system, but I've been looking into making a PAO system as well. But when I watch videos and they give examples it just doesn't seem to me like it would be as easy for me to remember things well with the PAO system. It's easy to remember Harry Potter flying on a broom for example because that is what he does. But when you combine one of those with something else, it becomes less memorable because it more difficult to imagine them doing it. It could turn into something weird like Tiger Woods flying with spaghetti. That's a lot harder to remember. Later when you're trying to remember the number again, you might remember someone was flying (on a plane perhaps) and eating spaghetti but you might not remember who it was because there is so many people it could have been. So then I wonder, should you add something else to the scene to help you remember that it was tiger woods. Like maybe because it was Tiger Woods they put the spaghetti on his plate in the shape of a golf club. But it does take more time trying to come up with things like that to help you remember if you have to do that with each one. And maybe you can't even do that because what if one of your other ones has a plane as the object or action (flying in a plane). So that might not even be a good idea to add stuff to help you remember unless that stuff is not elsewhere in your PAO system. So now we just have Tiger Woods flying with spaghetti. I suppose you can imagine him flying over a golf course eating spaghetti up in the air as he gets a better look from above. That way the actions and objects are now tied to the person. So lets say in my POA system I have Michael Jordan slam dunking a basket ball. Maybe I have Chuck Norris's kicking someone in the head with his foot. And Penny Wise the clown trying to give someone balloons (want a balloon, they float, they all float down here). So maybe that turns into Michael Jordan kicking a balloon. It's harder to imagine Michael Jordan kicking a balloon. Easier to imagine Chuck Norris throwing a kick than Michael Jordan. Again though, if you spend more time thinking about it, you might start to think that perhaps the balloon was made to look like a basket ball and when someone threw it to him he and he was anticipating it to flow through the air like a basket ball. But since it was a balloon it just floated in the air. So realizing it was a joke, he smiles and kicks the balloon. But then again, we've added something - a basketball. Which could be a problem since there is already another object in this imagery - balloons. So maybe it would be better to imagine this scene taking place on a basket ball court, thereby linking it to Michael Jordan so you don't forget the person. But why would Michael Jordan be kicking a balloon on the court? I have no idea, and it would take time to come up with a reason why that might happen. Seems like it would really slow you down and take more time trying come up with things like that to help you recall them better. And in some cases you might not even be able to think of anything. I guess I'm just trying to wrap my mind around this system to see if there is some way I could make it work for me.
If you are an auditory learner, the Major system is likely to work better for you than the PAO system, which is more suitable for kinesthetic learners. Combining one person with the action (unusual for him) of another and with the object of a third person (also unusual for him) creates an image that is strange and unusual, and therefore very memorable. In practice, it is not that difficult to memorize such unusual images, especially if you place them in locations of a known memory palace and make a connection between that location and your image. It's simply hard to forget, for example, Mickel Jackson flying on a crocodile on the ceiling of your bedroom. PAO's most difficult task is creating a list of unmistakable characters, actions, and objects.

I have two questions. The second one: @ 2:54, the choosen ACTION is a derivant from the PERSON, isn't it? If so, for 40( DO), the PERSON is "Dominic O'Brien", it is natural for me to expect the ACTION to be "playing cards". But if I met 4046, I make an image as "Dominic O'Brien cooking", which how to enhance my impression on? Or in other words, how to prevent me from a wrong memorable image "Dominic O'Brien is playing cards"? Thanks
I have two questions. The first one: If I met 4046, as for 40, I recall DO( "Dominic O'Brien" ); but as for 46, is it necessary for me to recall PERSON "Delia Smith" from number 46 firstly, then associate ACTION "cooking" with him? Then finnally I make an image as "Dominic O'Brien cooking". Will the 2 steps while treating 46 makes a low speed?

What about combining pao with the major system?
I assume you mean the combination of Pao and Major System rules to create a list of 100 person-actions and objects. For example for 00 (SS in the major system) instead of using a random person, you can use a person who has the initials SS (Silvester Stalone) together with an action based on the same letters in the major system (for example "assess") and an object ('oasis"). The idea is excellent, because such a system would give you clues every time, but it is extremely difficult to find the actions and objects that match the person.
How to memorize a textbook

How do you solve the problem of having for example a number like from a bank account that you want to memorize that concists if 7 numbers? Do you then just remember the last digit by itself? How? Because we then only have images for for example a 08 instead of just an 8 which falsifies a bank account number?
You could, for example, somehow link that thread to the last object. If this object is a pen and the last digit left alone is 8, you can imagine an 8 drawn on the pen, or you can use the image of a set of 8 pens instead of a pen. Anything is allowed as long as it helps you remember.
I have three questions: 1) Why take the detour of translating the numbers into letters before creating the persons + actions? Couldn't you just skip this step and arbitrarily assign people and actions for the same result. The only difference should lie in the ease of memorizing the initial list - which isn't really that hard to do. Same is true for the connection between the person and the action of the same two digit number (e.g. it doesn't matter if I have Olive eating spinach for 00, or if I have Olive putting on makeup for 00). What am I missing? Does this actually affect efficiency in any way past learning the initial encoding list? 2) How does one person + action pair encode 6 binary digits when it is based on a list of 100 2-digit associations? Should it not be able to encode 12? (64 persons for the first 6, and 64 actions for the second 6?) 3) How does this account for odd sequences? Wouldn't you also need to cover 0-9 in addition to 00-99?
By using this method, we are creating an unusual (and, therefore, very memorable) image of a person performing another's action. These images require a strong association, that you can instantly remember, between the character and his action. For this reason, you need certain reminder clues, and associating numbers with letters will help you increase the speed of memorization and recall. To use an analogy from the IT field, it's much easier to find a record in a table when the table have an index . That's what letters codes do. 2. Memorizing the sequences of numbers is always done in groups of four digits. Each group will become a person doing the action of another person. For example, 59656835 is memorized like this: 59-65 becomes the image of "Emperor Nero -playing tennis" and 68-35 becomes "Sherlock Holmes- lassoing". 3. You can find the answer for odd numbers above: memorization is done in groups of 4 and for this reason it was necessary to transform 0 into 00, 1 into 01, etc., in order to become persons+ actions
Thank you for your response! 1) It makes sense that it makes the list easier to memorize. I personally prefer creating "free" person + object pairs, since I think that allows for more freedom in finding "unusual and, therefore, very memorable" images, since I am not bound to having, for example, to find a person whose first name starts with an A, and last name starts with a B (maybe I don't really know a person / character that even fits, which would force me to include a person I have zero connection to). The same is true for the action part. If a system leads to me having "reading the news" and "reading the newspaper" as two distinct actions, then something is flawed (at least for me, these two would not be nearly distinct enough to work properly, yet I've seen them in actual lists, since they fit the persons they belonged to). I very much doubt recall speed and precision is affected by this, once the list is properly memorized and practiced. Since at that point you're not actually taking the detour to decode it - the association between person / action and number is already made. 2) I don't understand how this relates to binary numbers. As mentioned, a set of 64 persons + 64 actions would already allow you to learn them in groups of 12 - 6 per person, and 6 per action. So a "base set" of 100 persons and 100 actions would be able to cover that, no? 3) Transforming 1 into 01 makes no sense to me if the sequence ends on 1. e.g. 37-36-37-1. This is different from 37-36-37-01. What stops us from having 10 additional persons + actions (for each 1-digit number), to cover a case like this? @@ChrisMNemo
@@pr-pc8fq 1. You can create your casting of people and actions as you wish, as long as you manage to learn it and use it without confusion. From my experience, I can tell you that choosing the actions for the initial casting, so that they are unmistakable, is a very difficult task. 2. For binary numbers, another approach is used. Since there are only 8 distinct combinations of 3 binaries each (000,001,010, 011, 100, 101, 110, 111), you will need only 8 people and actions. Memorizing the binary numbers with the help of the Dominic system is done in groups of 6, of which 3 represent the person and the other 3 the action. 3. For numbers that remain outside and cannot be associated with a person and an action, different strategies are used, such as using only the associated person, without action, which is placed separately in the last location of the memory palace. I don't think it's a problem to memorize the final digit of the sequence, even if it remains unassociated

Some confusion still remains regarding the binary numbers, since it feels very inefficient to only do 6 at a time when you could already do 12 with the person + action pairings you have available from your 00-99 decimal numbers (as you said, you need 8 for 3 digits, while you would need 64 for 6 digits). But maybe there is a practical reason for why this would not be efficient. @@ChrisMNemo I don't think so. I think we have to create CODEs for every single numbers, i.e. 0~9, otherwise, we can't recall, for example, 626 and 6206 exactly

Its interesting that you have colors associated with groups of 10. When retrieving the PAO, does color factor into it for you?
Dividing the list by colors has more to do with learning the list of characters (which itself is a rather difficult process) than with using the PAO method. One of the tricks of ancient orators, when they had long lists to memorize, was to divide their locations into chunks of 10 and to mark each 10th place with a cross, and every 5th place between them with a hand. In this way, they created some delimiters that helped them not to lose sight of certain items on their list. Our short-term memory usually retains no more than about five to seven pieces of information at once, so they found a very practical solution to keep the order of the memorized items.

The Dominic System is an encoding method, while the Peg system is a structural method. Here is what they are used for: The Peg System, like the Loci Method, are structural memory methods. Their main purpose is to create an orderly structure (such as body parts or the rooms of a house) to place there later, the mental images created with a method of transforming abstract notions (such as numbers, for example) into simple images. Dominic system is an encoding method, which transforms numbers into easy-to-memorize images (people and actions).

Dominic's list of people and actions associated with numbers is just a tool to turn numbers into images as quickly and efficiently as possible. In fact, their order in the list doesn't even matter. What is important is to instantly associate in your mind the number 3340, for example, with Charlie Chaplin - playing cards. Then, you take this image and put it in an orderly structure created with the Peg or Memory palace system. For example, at the entrance to your house you imagine Charlie Chaplin playing cards, then in the first room Albert Einstein-carrying oil can and in the next Clint Eastwood -performing magic. In this way, you have just memorized the number: 334015103543. This number, divided into groups of 4 digits and then into pairs (33-40, 15-10 ,35-43), was coded as follows according to the list of the Dominic system: 33-40=Charlie Chaplin playing cards (the action of Dominic O'Brien); 15-10=Albert Einstein-Carrying oil can (the Action of Aristotle Onassis); 35-43=Clint Eastwood -Performing magic (the action of David Copperfield);@@tuluppampam

Is it too difficult?
I think your method is very useful, I like the idea, but I didn't try it. Do you think it's good for studying philosophy kind of materials? Because in my university we have a lot of "critical" theories about the world in Psychology classes. So it's difficult for me to study it because it is a little bit complex. Today I'll try your SCALM method. I wish it helps with this kind of information. I don't know if it makes sense. In summary, what I'm trying to explain is that my teachers say that we don't need to memorize information because they say that it is not understanding. But I personally think that only understanding the material doesn't make me learn anything. What do you think about it? And do you think active recall based studying is better than imagery/association based learning?
I believe that understanding a text is not enough, but must be combined with an appropriate learning strategy. During our studies, we all face the same problem: learning boring, abstract materials. Regardless of how well you understand a material, when it comes time to learn it for an exam, you need a systematic approach to learning, and for this I designed the SCALM method, which combines several memory techniques with the aim of transforming learning in a proactive process. The SCALM learning process involves a work of deconstructing, organizing and reconstructing (recoding) the material, all these stages being part of the natural process of efficient learning. In simple terms, it translates the abstract information into the alphabet of the brain, which is made up of concrete images, thus making it possible to memorize it in the long term.

I struggle with this code. There must be another way.
Here are some ideas on how to remember the code: 0 - s, z, soft-c - remember as 'z is first letter of zero' 1 - d, t, th - remember as letters with 1 downstroke 2 - n - remember as having 2 downstrokes 3 - m - has three downstrokes 4 - r - imagine a 4 and an R glued together back-to-back 5 - L - L is the Roman Numeral for 50 6 - j, sh, soft-ch, dg, soft-g - g is 6 rotated 180 degrees. 7 - k, hard-ch, hard-c, hard-g, ng - imagine K as two 7s rotated and glued together 8 - f, v - script f resembles a figure-8. V sounds similar. 9 - p, b - b sounds similar and resembles a 9 rolled around, while p is a mirror-image of 9. Please note that it is not mandatory to learn and use all the consonants associated with a number, you can choose only one of them, the most common. All the best, Chris M Nemo

Do you use same memory Palace in every event? Or how many location in your mine?
Memory experts have their own collection of memory palaces, which they use for different types of information, and after a period of time, when the images placed there fade, they reuse them. The optimal length of a memory palace is up to 50 locations, but I recommend you to work with memory palaces of 30 to 40 locations.
