1998 is considered to be one of the best renaissance years in gaming, and one of the most fondly remembered and charming games on the PlayStation 1 is Medievil: a gothic tale about redemption.
You play as Sir Daniel Fortesque, who in life was a bumbling, clumsy and lazy knight, who was favoured by King Peregrin of Gallowmere. In this period, the kingdom saw the the rise of a disgraced necromancer called Zarok who sought to take the realm for his own with an army of the dead.
Fortesque and his fellow soldiers sought to put an end this threat at the Battle of Gallowmere. Leading the charge, Fortseque was killed unceremoniously by the very first volley of arrows fired. Despite this, he is falsely and erroneously celebrated as the great hero who put an end to Zarok.
100 years pass, and Zarok has returned with another army of the dead. After being accidentally resurrected, Fortesque returns and with this, he has a second chance to be the hero he always could have been despite being a massive underdog. Can he overcome his charlatan legacy and live up to the legend?
