The Game Boy Advance Chronicles, a brutally sacrificed console | A Game Boy Advance Documentary
The Game Boy Advance is an enigmatic console with a history full of twists and turns. It didn't stay on the market for long because Nintendo simply sacrificed it in favor of other projects. Yet, it's a console that left its mark with its innovations and some controversies surrounding its hardware, which sparked a lot of debate. Today, we're taking a closer look at this somewhat strange era in video game history-the fierce competition brought on by the overwhelming success of the Game Boy, the internal changes within Nintendo during its reign, and how Sony and Sega did everything they could to overshadow Nintendo in the portable market. Here is the story of the Game Boy Advance, the fleeting success of a sacrificed console.
Made by Sakharu, voiced over by Brad Ziffer.

Few series have remakes that hold as much significance as the Pokémon series, they always bring innovations despite being remakes and they are eagerly anticipated by fans for years, sometimes even more so than new games, despite being released only every six years. And all of this was initiated by Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen, born out of a very specific need from Game Freak. The announcement an...

In the 80s and 90s, there was a slogan that you could find everywhere in all advertisements for every gaming console-it was 'arcade at home.' Unfortunately, that was rarely the case, even though some companies like Sega came close from time to time, we were far from having the same quality in home console games as in arcade halls, and that's understandable because these were two different world...
Mario Kart, 30 years of fun and madness | Documentary/Retrospective on the Mario Kart series

The Mario Kart series is one of the most iconic of all time, one of the few series that is universal; we've all played Mario Kart no matter which episode it was, and we've all understood, controller in hand, that these games are special, that they have a different aura from others, that they make us feel a whole range of emotions in just a few seconds. Mario Kart games are very exotic and diffe...

In late '94, after a completely wild development journey, Sony releases the PlayStation in Japan, followed by launches in the United States and Europe a year later. Despite a rocky start, the console gains traction, benefiting from an extensive promotional campaign, the piracy rampant and, more importantly, Sega's numerous missteps with the Saturn and the lack of games on the Nintendo 64. I think the Legend of Zelda was one of the best games ever made and only few games I would consider maybe above it and another one would be a Nintendo 64's The Legend of Zelda ocarina of Time man that game was gigantic for it's time and still is such an amazing game! But man when i was a kid i loved this game with it's gold cartridge and it really felt like you were exploring a brand new world it's like you lived through Link, man I love this game and there is nothing like playing it on the original Nintendo system! But right now they have so many good offers for handheld emulators with all the old games like NES SNES PSP N64 Game boy color Game boy advance just so many more and they also have classic PC games all in the palm of your hand. I would highly suggest if you are a lover of old school games just look up handheld emulators you can get ones that are shaped like PSP or you can get retro boy which is what it sounds like an emulator with all your favorites from when you were a kid. I get nothing from this I just know that the inner child and all of us would like to be able to have all these games in the palm of our hands it's a great way to pass time and have fun and relive the past!

This timeline is suspiciously similar to the lifespan of the Switch. The way it's looking, the Switch 2 will seem a lot like the equivalent of GBA. I'm curious what sales will look like for the first three years of Switch 2 and if it will really pick up off the ground or not. Nintendo has traditionally sold severely underpowered consoles very well whereas their focus on higher power tends to be their downfall for some reason.

I had one friend who had a Neo Geo back in the day. He only had a few games as they were very expensive. It was awesome but....the thrill was not that long. No one else had one. He couldn't rent games either. We ended up putting vastly more time toward the genesis and snes. Still, I remember how blown away I was at the graphics of the Neo Geo.

That's a mistranslation. _"Athletic"_ is Japanese English for _"obstacle-course"._ Like how _"fanny"_ is a different body part depending on if American English or British English. Also, "The Hyrule Fantasy" isn't the subtitle, or even part of the game's name at all; it's just The Legend of Zelda. You will not find Nintendo having ever refered to it as anything else. "The Hyrule Fantasy" is just there to sound cool and catchy.

In a way, SNK went the way of Sega, became another company that abandoned hardware development in favor of software. Couple of years ago there was talks of an upcoming Neo Geo 2 console, but it turned out to be a lot of smoke. For a moment, a lot of people thought the Neo Geo was making a comeback, got their hopes up all for nothing.

Gap filler is probably the best way to describe this console. But for me and most of my English school friends, it filled an even bigger gap. Most of us had a Megadrive and PS1 (some of us a Master System too). Those SNES ports in a portable, and often multiplayer form were a massive gap being filled. Add that to the amount of RPGs we didn't get in Europe until this time and I can see why it became a lot of our favourite handhelds. Everything was fresh for us. Sleepovers would often be Advance Wars, Pokemon battles, Mario Kart Super Circuit - this despite us having the main consoles.

Amazingly well made video! Sat through the whole thing while playing my Nintendo Switch Lite. Pretty amazing how far we've come since the GBA days, and with so many handhelds coming out now from so many different companies the competition is more fierce than ever before. I did have a little laugh though when I saw the Game Boy Micro unveiled again. That one didn't age too well.

I used to criticize Nintendo for not going through with Sony's deal to produce the Nintendo PlayStation. I now realize I was wrong. Sony tried to f*ck Nintendo by making a deal that cut them out of the lion share of profits the collaboration console would generate. From Nintendo's point of view making that deal would be shooting themselves in the foot. It was a terrible one sided deal that would have given Sony leverage to use Nintendo's brand to pad their own pockets. It's understandable why Nintendo decided to betray Sony and make a more favorable deal with Phillips. No one could have foreseen how successful the PlayStation would become. Even if they somehow could see the future making the deal according to Sony's terms would not have been in the best interest of Nintendo. They weren't about to just let Sony take over the market share without a fight. And boy what a fight it turned out to be. Sony won however they earned their victory by taking a risk and getting into the video game market on the back of their own console. Nintendo was content with losing via competing with Sony, and not simply signing everything they had over to them.

The mods for the original GBA at that time were almost entirely front lights, not back lights. Additionally, the original release of the GBA SP (the AGS-001) were also using front lights. It was not until the second model of the SP (the AGS-101) that a back light was used, and that was its only real improvement; they even advertised it on the box. Please do not refer to front lights as back lights. It is important in the context of discussing the GBA in particular.
