Hoping for treasures in a $3000 pile of Old Books. #rarebooks
Just looking at a newly purchased pile of old books for the first time- and what goes through my head. It's pretty close to the though process of when I look at a new collection library.

Wait!! Etsy? You're on Etsy? What is your seller name there?

Very interesting
Well ill be damned if this wasnt a waste of time to watch
I’ll be damned if that comment wasted my time reading ;) - let alone further water your time writing
I was expecting to see one of the most famous symbols ever and I saw one of the most famous symbols ever.
The density of detail in the woodcut on the title page of the Bible part of the Book of Common Prayer is just incredible.
That antiphonal would make a cool display, even with the text block missing. Condition and clean up the leather and mount it on something on a wall. Great conversation piece.
Who doesn't love Bosco!~
Love all your videos. Very informative
Loved every minute of this. I appreciate your methods of purchasing. Makes the less affluent bibliophiles feel that there is hope that somewhere out there are dealers who appreciate our treasures. Interesting microphone on your shirt. These videos are fabulous.
Such a great story teller... just do more of it.
Adam you should sign up with the Oxford Union and deliver a speech there. Love your vlogs !
h century italian illuminated leaf is probably that 14th century italian illuminated leaf is probably worth at least a grand by itself
You always seem comfortable in front of the camera, which is not something that comes naturally to most people! Did you have acting or improv experience before you went on the show?
I played Book Vader in Shelf Wars
Excellent video! Thank you! I would have kept watching if it was 2 hours long. Your commentary is very educational.
Love it... "3 to 4 times a month to pay the bills".
Great video 🫶
Beautiful Bible for its age.
You should really work on the thumbnails of your videos. The repetitive design of the red part makes it somewhat hard to look at and boring at the same time.
Fair enough . I was going for consistency but will freshen the next one up
These sorts of forays are always interesting to me. It's just like Christmas to see what you've got, ha ha (as I upbraid myself with a snide inner voice "so, you must be dry as dust to find fun in this...")--yes, yes I am, sorry!
The time is always one heartbeat away for us all. Have a nice day.
Interesting Union Defense Committee! I sell civil war antiques, definitely going to watch your site for that. Adam, my father collected antique books. Do you have recommendations for determining values. One stands out - Wonders of the heavens - 1830s American Astronomical book... Funny the Blue laws were a total mystery to Hurricane Katrina refugees... I remember it well.
I love accents & I find your accent as interesting as the books! I’m an old bookseller, so that’s really saying something. 😄 I have a feeling that the most money may be in the folio pieces…perhaps enlist services of an archival picture framer.
For the many illuminated manuscript collectors, that is a home run.
I’ll be content with a couple RBIs if I sell them
This might be my new favorite of your videos! Honestly i would gladly watch every minute of every book buy you make. IMO, your commentary and thought process is a master class in antiquarian book dealing. Fascinating!
Thank you. I had favorable comments for a video a felt was rushed on my for various reasons - so I’ll try and repeat the format . Appreciate it
Interesting episode. You need to do a part 2 where you go through the rest of the books and papers.
Sure. What about part iii where they all sell ;)
it's the white cat duh. cats always trump unicorns
I love the song and the movie The last unicorn, good musical choice and beautiful unicorns :)
I wanted to see it all! Even the papers and the pics ! You didn't have time but mine was avalaible enough to watch and discover every single one of the books and document :)
Art Deco
Honestly would've loved to see you go through the whole collection. 😁 As someone who buys and sells guitars, it's always fun to see collectors talk about new additions.
I’ll try a longer video next time .
second one
I love them both. 🤎
I would love to see another like this! Great video!
Art Deco for this the small one needed to be older to win imo.
Adam, where do all the sub $100 books go? I would love to add to my own library :)
They sit on the gallery and storage for people who want to come and buy by appt if you are in NY
I've been a book an antiquarian dealer and bibliophile for over 40 years and really enjoyed this. I'm astonished that you bought a box of books "blind"...for THREE GRAND! Surely you had some INKLING of what was in there? 🤔 There was some real beauties there...particularly the silver-clasped Bible and the Spanish binding. I'd love to have those. I was surprised at your dismissal of the "New York" book? Although I am British and live here in England, early American history, and books, really interest me, and I have quite a few in my library.
Just quick dismissal based on value and condition - not content which is interesting. If it’s under $100 sadly as a rare book dealer with limited time - I dismiss it but don’t mean to disparage its historical value . I take blind chances a lot if the price sounds OK.
Love your videos Adam!
Thank you.
Adam, after you discovered the Bible, you seemed to disregard the rest of the collection and I was very interested to hear about the letters and pictures as well as the notebook that you discarded as unimportant… What was it? I enjoy watching your videos…please take more time with the items that you think may not be valuable. The esoteric nature of the process of discovery is interesting in itself and your spontaneous commentary is also always insightful! I also would’ve enjoyed a cutaway to a Google search on Morse code and the muppets!
I didn’t mean to disregard. I just try to keep the videos to 20 min and I had a client waiting outside :) There were other interesting books in there but I ran short of time - but I agree I should have done the whole box. Also you can’t hear it in the video but my neighbors were screaming in Russian and it was getting hard to think :)

Thanks Adam
Finding a beautiful Bible from the 1600's is good. Having the words of everlasting life in it - priceless.
I love your shows Adam! Around the turn of the millennium I used to love visiting the auction houses here in Sydney to fossick through the boxes of dusty old books that were largely ignored by the antique booksellers - who were focusing on the known rarities listed individually. In one auction I picked up one box containing Charles James Fox’s 1774 set of The Spectator (complete with his bookplate in every volume), as well as the 1785 Wealth of Nations pair, together with quite a few other interesting odds and ends … all for the princely sum of $A30! The Spectator set was beautifully bound but sadly several boards had come loose over time; still, at that price I wasn’t about to complain!😊
The middle market these days has a lot of underpriced treasures as a lot of dealers are now focused on the big prizes to keep their business going
Fascinating ! Please keep educate us !
Interesting video.
