Thanks so much for the video ! I'm just gonna write some notes to refer to when I revisit your video during revision. Cheers. ! After gastrulation, now we have ectoderm, mesoderm, and endoderm. The kidneys and genitourinary system comes from the mesoderm, specifically the "intermidate mesoderm" (which is like 1 out of 3 things in the mesoderm). wk 4 start. Sequence of kidney building : Pro -> Meso -> Meta Nephros. Pro means before, meso means middle (like mesoderm), meta means in internet slang - a lot of story, so have a meta at that point. * Pronephros = early kidney that doesn't work. * Mesonephros works but temporarily (until meta comes). It has ducts and tubules. The mesonephric ducts degenerate in female due to lack of androgen, while in male gives rise to vas deferens (which is basically a duct). * Metanephros = permenant kidney, happens in 5th wk. Metanephric mesoderm secretes Growth factors that sprout a ureteric bud, which is connected to the meSonephric duct through the ureteric stalk [so just imagine the old mesonephron's duct which now has a uretric stalk and bud at the stalk's end, and they are communicating with the new metanephric mesoderm]. Overtime the ureteric bud lengthens, and release growth factors to make metanephric mesoderm to grow. So both growing each other. Eventually uretetic stalk is long and the bud in inside the metanephric mesoderm. The ureteric stalk is still outside, and it keeps growing taller, becoming the ureter. The ureteric bud inside the metanephric mesoderm divides into 2, forming the renal pelvis. The 2 pelvis divide again to form 2 major calixces each, and then they divide again to form minor calices, and again to millions of collecting tubules. The collectting tubules are still surrounded by the metanephric mesoderm, so it tells the mesoderm that its ready and start making nephron, which it does, starting as metanephric vesicles - that become the nephron, and then connects with the collecting system. As kidney forms, it moves up from pelvis to post. abdomen. Honestly pretty easy. Source: www.osmosis.org/learn/Development_of_the_renal_system + th-cam.com/video/tKXRAIfCrYk/w-d-xo.html
