The Joeys wanted to 'Shave Possum' during the planning for the term. For understandable reasons the activity never made it to the term planner. However, Movember gave us that opportunity. we did Leighton to Lancelin a few yrs ago, epic adventure. Pulled up in Scarborough as you are not allowed to ride a bike or skateboard on the beach. go figure
@@mikebowles5132 This ride started in Fremantle and I went up to Mindarie. 50Ks on the beach were very tiring for me. Good workout for an upcoming variant of the Cape to Cape trail.
@@possum_on_bike yep. strong tail wind helps a fatty. we did 2 days, yanchep o'night. easier after that, wide flat beaches. Gnaraloo has epic fat bike riding around Greenhead really good too, down to sandy cape, north head or north to Leeman. beach and sand 4wd and dunes
@mikebowles5132 Thanks. At one point in time I'm going to give it a go to ride further North.
With a decent tailwind, you could angle that hat and not have to pedal.

Hey, the Bracknell to Arthurs lake segment (known to the locals as Sandbank Tier) has never been marked unridable. The trouble is, some superhumans manage to ride it. My bike rode me up the Sandbank Tier leg, when I did the trail in the 90s, shortly after the trail first opened. It's a monster climb! I don't regret attempting to ride it, even with a photo of me carrying my Giant ATX 970 up the last 100m. I'd probably have regretted getting to Arthurs Lake via Poatina Rd because I would have felt "like I hadn't tried." Sandbank Tier is a right of passage, brother, few even choose it.
Your cave! That was my lunch stop that day! I nearly bailed the whole ride at that point! A bit of food, rest and breathing to overcome oxygen debt, I finished the day. I've never been able to find out, but I think that cave may have been a Pawala (first nations) settlement before my ancestors' jailers stole Lutruwita and made a prison of it.
@@crunchysteve I 'chose' it by accident. It's a long hike-a-bike, however it is not difficult. The grade is quite decent. In comparison I did a ride back in Romania where I had a hike-a-bike section of 2 kilometres at around 20% incline. The trail was just as bad as the Tasmanian one (in different ways though). However the incline was murderous, coupled with the very rough ground

@@meintablet1791 That way of dealing with the dogs I found by accident in a TH-cam video. I wouldn't have thought about it. As for the bears, I camped in villages instead of the forest. Some people also carry bells and bear spray on their bikes. I was thinking about it, but did not pursue it.

did about half of it a couple of years back, it's a great route with wilderness hard to find on much of the EuroVelo network.
what clothes are you taking with you while bikepacking?
@@davidsprint1 As few as I can and weather dependant. 😁 For this trip I had: two merino t-shirts (one would have been enough though); two bibs; two pairs of merino blended socks, rain jacket, one pair of shorts, one lightweight fleece.

What Kind of treats for the dogs did you carry with you? Where did you buy it? Did IT Work every time?
@@elshalom3170 It was cat food. I didn't really use them. When the dogs are barking hard and coming for you, treats won't stop them. The kinds words worked so much better (and the pepper spray on one occasion).

Nice work......Some time ago, I read about a German man who, leaving on his bicycle from Mongolia, wanted to reach Hamburg, Germany, after crossing Asia, in Romania he had to give up the route because his bicycle was stolen. and, worse, they took all his equipment. It happened somewhere in the west of the country. So be careful never to leave the bike unattended

Those dogs do the work they've been doing for quite literally millennia, far longer than cyclists have existed: they protect herds and shepherds from large predators. The wilderness of Romania is home to one of the largest populations of large carnivores in Europe, including brown bears, wolves and lynx.
