    most of the nose angle videos on the internet have a comment saying "THIS WAS THE BEST ONE!"... well, THIS VIDEO for me was the one that enabled me to actually get the nose angle consistently flat, and understand what i was doing wrong with my grip. i watched this video about a week ago and just had a chance to try it the issue was that i was lining up the edge of the disc where my pointer finger knuckle meets the palm of my hand. putting the disc in between my first two fingers like this video suggests showed me that the disc should be on the other side of that knuckle, in between the crease to my pointer finger that was a really simple change that made a massive amount of difference! thanks for suggestion, that took me 2-3 years to figure out! fn Uli had me using the lines in my palm to align the disc...well the lines in MY palm aim the disc nose up!

    You've done a great job explaining what I think is one of the most challenging part of the disc golf throw. Most people find it hard to coil deeper without also coiling too soon and getting orientated backwards. I've found this challenging at times too. Good to hear I'm not alone! In addition to what you've pointed out, I'll say a couple of other reasons I see people backward stepping through their x-step: 1) if their weight starts tilting forward, they will stumble into back-stepping. The weight distribution during the x-step needs to be balanced - perhaps a bit more weight on the rear leg if any 2) if their posture is too upright, it is very hard to x-step without walking backwards. The athletic posture allows the back leg to stick out more as a counterweight, and have its own "lane" during x-stepping. Just try walking sideways while standing straight up, and watch your feet clunk into themselves! Then tilt forward and feel how easy your back foot slides behind the other foot. Another issue with coiling I see is people that tilt their whole body back during the coil, and then try to fling their body forward for the release. This is so painful to watch, as it is so strenuous on the body, and provides no gain in disc speed. This is the kind of stress and tension we don't want...right ? !! There are so many things that can go wrong with this part of the throw it makes it very challenging to learn and teach. You've done an absolutely great job here getting people thinking along the right path. Keep up the great work - I always learn things from your posts.

  • @benharrison5816
    @benharrison5816 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I've definitely noticed on my longest throws I gave it that extra bit of coil when my front foot hit. I gotta work on that more because I do tend to undercoil. One thing I feel is important to mention is with the back foot, when you're coiling your hips, make sure your weight is on the ball of your foot, athletic stance. If your weight goes back on your heel and/or your back knee locks out I feel like it's impossible to coil properly.

    • @discsmd
      @discsmd 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Great point! Sorry I miss specifying that. Hope getting that extra coil goes well. Thanks for watching and the comment!

    Couple things pretty sure the challenge is putter, mid, driver. Also the Ka Kaw is a fairway and the Wrangler stability was killing you. Lariat probably would have got you there. Can you only throw Lonestar? If so maybe Curl or Lariat, Texas Ranger, Benny gets you there.

    • @discsmd
      @discsmd 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yeah, I always associate the Mockingbird with a 6 speed when, in fact, it is a 7. I tried it with the Ranger back in Dec, and I just can't get distance with that disc. I throw the BB6 much better. So maybe Benny, BB6, Lariat is the ticket. I'll give it a shot next time! And yes, I am on the Lieutenant Team, so 100% Lone Star. Thanks for the comment and suggestions!

    • @discsmd
      @discsmd 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I find that I do. My step before the xstep was turned back too much before, so the momentum would carry me even further back and cause my xstep to be too long.

    This season I have been strugling my distance. Last year it was almost 300ft and now it has been maybe 250 max. I am almost 50 years old and started two years ago so I am not even going to be long distance thrower. Few days ago I realised what I have been doing with my head. Not turning my head enough to get proper shoulder turn. Of course I now all these things like you cannot watch where you are throwing if you want to turn your shoulders, but still there was this simple error. I hope now I can get that lost distance back! 😁

    Excellent reference to the rigid portion of the whip. I think the faster we try to throw, the more our elbow collapses into our bodies, resulting in even less whip. You're spot on when you say that you don't need much of a reach back to throw far "enough". The whip action alone is powerful. Now rubber-band + elbow whip = peak distance, but if you only achieve the elbow whip, you do just fine. Great shout out to Nick as well. I think he hits a few important pieces of the throw, including timing the arm extension, though I still cannot seem to get that right. 😂

    In my opinion, having the knee up like your pre-lesson form means you are not engaging the posterior oblique sling much. To engage the POS, the glutes need to contract, which will also cause the hip to extend. If the hip does not extend, that means you are not using the glutes. The backwards kick your talking about is not just a counterbalance, it is actually engagement of the POS that connects from your back leg hip to your throwing arm lat and shoulder. It is this extention of the back leg hip that may lead to the idea that the hips (or rather the pelvis) should be rotated forcefully, as hip extention will cause the back leg hip to move forward in relation to the front leg hip, which does cause the pelvis to rotate a bit. But the rotation of the pelvis is more of a biproduct than an actual goal. Although it could work well as a cue for some, because it could lead to more glute engagement.

    Thanks for the video but, for me, throwing off on one leg has never worked for me. BUT, this video did get me to thinking... Somebody else mentioned Happy Gilmore. What sport would a disc golf Happy Gilmore play? A: Baseball. Long story short, I get into a RHBH standstill stance. Then I rotate back for the back swing while lifting my front leg (like a baseball pitcher). Then I spring off my back leg to plant my front foot. and then I throw through the pocket. sweeeeeeet. Lifting the front leg forces the weight to shift to the back. Springing off the back leg to drive in the plant shifts weight to the front AND seems easier to wait for that plant before initiating launch. This allowed me to easily transition to a 4 step run up.

    Feldberg has an old clinic video on TH-cam where he talks about the 80/20 rule and the heel drop . Either shoulders core hips (whatever mental cues) to shift to the heel drop then pull through. 80% of weight on back leg shift/pivot to 80% on front leg and then pull through. The faster you can time the shift to pull through the better. Takes 1000s of throw and gets better with reps. Pushing into the ground to power the swing. On one leg your taking out the shift of weight just to pull through using the ground with the front leg, so your in the brace to see what it feels like to learn the swing but your not learning the weight shift from one leg your learning the swing or pull mechanics. I start with weight on front leg and just swing for upshots as these don't require the lower body shift.

    • @discsmd
      @discsmd หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, I get that. I think that is outside the scope of what I am talking about here. I am talking about learning to stop that back leg to drive more energy into the throw. The weight shift happens before what I am talking about.

      @@discsmd I haven't really thought of controlling the back leg or off arm. I played around with off arm and had no increases. I think my body naturally uses these for balance but I'm not that advanced. I think of shifting then swing all upper body which keeps the throw somewhat accurate in the right direction.

    • @discsmd
      @discsmd หลายเดือนก่อน

      @NostressZone-x3d Yeah, I can respect that. We all have different strengths and weaknesses, for sure. Me controlling my back leg was a big deal for me. I'm probably moving to off arm soon to see if that is hurting me at all. We'll see. Thanks for watching and the comments!

    Trebuchet DG does a great job explaining this, and the one legged drill is the best way to learn it for yourself. The only thing I’d point out is the extension of the rear leg happens by itself as the forward weight of the arm and disc moves forward, the body naturally wants to balance instead of falling over and it does this by extending the rear leg some. The transition from the one legged drill to the xstep can get tricky, and should only be done after checking the forward knee isn’t bowing out in front (Trebuchet knee safety). The only way you can keep that rear leg back is by staying on the balls of your feet. Any footwork laziness or otherwise will cause the back leg to rotate around more versus be collected in to some extent. It’s important to say that the drills by Josh are over exaggerated, and the full collection of the rear leg, similar to what you’re doing, is not exactly what you should be aiming for. There isn’t any pro to my knowledge who has their rear leg fully collected in, rather it’s just a little bit collected. So long as your rear leg doesn’t go immediately flying around yourself, you’re doing something right with your brace. As I always say, the most difficult part of the brace is being comfortable with the feeling of blindly falling forward in a balanced and controlled way. The easiest way to start working on this is to just practice walking sideways on the balls of your feet for a few minutes every day. Then do this and finish by mocking what should be done when you end on your brace leg. This gets you comfortable with not looking forward, while remaining balanced. Mix in some one legged drills from Trebuchet DG, and a new player should have a workable brace in a short amount of time, plus the entire xstep from start to brace. Edit: I should also add that for me, a swing thrower, the off arm swing has also helped greatly to collect the off leg in. This seems to be contrary to advice given by Spin Doctor, but all the swing throwers (GG, Gibson, McBeth) have a violent off arm swing in and down. Trebuchet DG also talks about how necessary this is as your off arm acts as an anchor by doing this. So, if you’re more of a swing thrower, I’d suggest looking into the off arm swing mechanics.

    • @discsmd
      @discsmd หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, this is certainly over-exaggerated as always with me and drills. It is why I put the wording disclaimer up twice. My full normal throws allow the leg to travel after the disc exits for sure.
