Valvoline restore and protect 5w30 in my 2011 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0t rspec.
I'm going to start using the Valvoline restoring protect 5W30 in my Hyundai Genesis Coupe. This is the latest and greatest oil to hit the market and I waited long enough to see if it's the real deal and does what it says it's supposed to and so far it's doing what it claims. Lakespeed Jr. The motor oil geek TH-cam channel he's tested in on his own vehicles. He's actually went to Valvoline and was shown everything about this oil and it works so I'm going to give it a try in my car and see what it can do.

Multigrade viscosity oil explanation genesis coupe 2.0t 3.8 bk1 bk2
Any idea how many miles you going before you change it again?
Probably 5k or 6k miles.
5w30 will bee fine in a 5w40 application. 5w40 really isnt thiicker it is just rateed different due to add pack. 5winter/30 stands for can flow as good as a 5 weight old under extreme cold and as good as 30 weight in extreme high temps.
I appreciate the info but unlike many others in Hyundai Genesis Coupe Facebook pages many actually do not understand what each number means on the viscosity rating and how they coincide with ambient temperature and normal operating temperature of the engine I actually do understand what each number means. The Valvoline restoring protect is new oil technology and when the Hyundai Genesis coupes were being produced more than 10 years ago. That was old oil technology and whatever wizardry Valvoline is using in the restorer protect. I know it's got to be the best oil out there now, regardless of the viscosity. I'm sure there's a reason why there's no 40 or a 50 viscosity in the restor and protect line.
@ I am a 30 year professional tech and I am having very good lucky with this product. Solved many oil consumption issues on many vehicles by 3rd oil change. It is a good product.
Just put some in my 1.4L turbo. See how it goes.
I'm sure it'll work great and I'm sure it will make the inside spotless as it once was when it was brand new. There's some wizardry going on with this oil definitely!
For the 2.0T Hyundai recommended 5w-40. There was a TSB issued around 2012. If you've been keeping up with oil changes then that restore and protect isn't needed. I have 160k miles on my 2013 2.0T. Oil changes every 5000k/6months using the OEM filter.
Have you not watched any of my other videos talking about the owners manual and what *1 says? I guess not. That is 10+ year old oil technology information the Valvoline restore and protect is a new age oil with more technology than any other previous oil. There is a reason why they don't offer a 40 viscosity oil in the restore and protect line.
Motor Oil Geek also mentioned that he started using Valvoline R&P 30wt for his Porsche instead of the Euro 40wt oils that Porsche says to use cause the euro 40wt thins out to 30wt in about 500 miles.
Then the 30wt will thin out to a 20wt withing 500 miles.. That's the reason Hyundai recommended a 40wt for the Gen Coupe for better protection of the engine and turbo. They had a lot of early failures do to the oil viscosity break down.
That's not why he uses the Valvoline restore and protect. The old formula of the M1 0w40 dops down to a 30 viscosity oil from multiple reasons. He uses the r&p because it is new technology oil and is better than all the others. There is a reason why Valvoline doesn't make a 40 or a 50 viscosity.
I agree but that is old oil technology and the Valvoline restore and protect is new technology oil which is formulated better than any of the other brands oil.
Besides the Misfire/Rings/Compression issue... Are you noticing any Significant Oil Consumption? Think I saw you have a couple of Catch Cans on your Setup...
No oil consumption at all 5 quarts goes in 5 come out.
Valvoline Restore and Protect is available in 10W40... Just not offered in the US Market. It is apparently available in the Australia/New Zealand Market though... (Marketed as offering 99% Deposit Removal, Not sure if that is a Market Specific "Requirement" or because of the Oil Spec... API SP, SN, SN Plus but not GF-6A (does 10W40 even qualify for ILSAC?)
That's cool and everything but it's not available in the USA so it doesn't help me.
@jeffreycattelino3996 Suppose so. Though dropping Valvoline Global a message saying you'd like some 10W40 or whatever specific oil blend/spec(s) you'd like to test out... See what they say
Using since September in my 2014 GMC Terrain AWD (2.4L Ecotec). Documented my XG9018 Oil Filter Swap @3008 miles (and after 114 miles) in a couple of Short TH-cam Videos... The filters have been Dark (but not Sludged thankfully) and the Oil itself is still relatively clear/golden... Going to see if Oil Analysis will let me go 4-5K miles comfortably... Had Oil Dilution problems (5.5%) previously, hopefully VRP will help reduce that (along with Maintenance and Driving Style Changes I'm currently at 1.3%... Apparently staying under 2.0% is key... Realistically I'd prefer "Trace" or maybe under .5% (Maybe not possible with a GDI engine but I can hope)...
Sounds like it works well for many others good to hear it's working for you.
Been using this oil since like August
Nice
Isn't 5w40 more preferable?
It would be but Valvoline doesn't make a 40 viscosity in the restore and protect line of oil and I think I know why because of how this is made and what it does.
How did they do when they wear down more? No cracking of sidewall or tread compound issues /belts coming apart? Chinesium did that. This is a turkish tire
The tires lasted 35k miles without rotating them because I have staggered directional tires they wore evenly.
@jeffreycattelino3996 nice!
It's actually awesome tires, for it's price. Maybe not the best out there but does the job reliably. It might be little stiffer than the other brands and I think it is because of the road conditions are not smooth in Turkey compared to USA or some European countries. That's why it made a bit stiffer to make it last longer. I was using them with my previous car in Turkey for it's performance to price value. Then I had to switch to Bridgestone because couldn't find Petlas with the correct size.
I agree for a less expensive tire to daily drive on it gets the job done. My set lasted me 35k miles.
There best brand tires 🛞 in Turkey 🇹🇷
35k miles without rotating them cuz I have staggered directional tires
😊I like 👍 it there good brand of Turkey 🇹🇷 tires. As long the alignment is and balance is great the tire will last.
I have had great luck with them.
Love these tires. I'm running a square fitment 265/35/18 on 18x8.5 wheels on my '23 Kia Forte GT 1.6T FWD. They are very smooth and quite, wear evenly, they track nicely on expressway under 35psi, and hook up pretty good for a street summer tire. The double center ribs sure look nicer than the single one and love how they look more square than other rounded edge tires. Definitely will be buying them again!
I got for 35,000 Miles out of them without being to rotate them cuz I have the staggered fitment
Im guessing the manufacturer changed the cap for the Canadian market due to the harsh winter temperatures. Because 5/20 would be better for -40 celcius. I would use a thicker viscosity for summer.
Do you know what each number means in conjunction with the outside temperature and of the oil when itself is cold for the 1st number and do you know what w stands for? Do you also know what the second number means in conjunction with the engine temperature? 5w20 5w30 and 5w40 all have the same cold ambient temperature and cold oil flow characteristics so not sure what you mean by 5w20 is better for -40°c when 0w is better for colder than -30°c -20°f which is where 5w is no longer recommended as a viable option.

No rubbing on front?
No rubbing on front in terms of what? Tire to fender, wheel to strut, wheel spokes to Brembo caliper?
Seen pretty good reviews for this tire and seems like you're a fan. I have a 21 Genesis G70 3.3T and have Continental All Seasons on the OEM 19" wheels. I want to get a lightweight dedicated Summer set for the fun 7 months of the year but don't want to spend $300 for a Michelin or Continental Summer tire. Looks like these would be 1/3rd the price so if they're 80% as good that's still a win, and I don't rip the roads like I did years ago. Thanks for the review and can't believe the tread is wearing so well. I assume the dry grip is about what to expect from a 320 treadwear tire, so not up to a Michelin or Continental, but right up there with a Toyo or Hankook, so that's still a helluva deal. Looks like they could go 30k miles at the rate you're going so the winning keeps going! BTW, do you drive your gen Coupe pretty hard, or mainly regular daily driving, just curious, as I know these cars fun can be addicting :)
Yes they have been a very good tire for me. I track race and drag race my Genesis Coupe if you want to look at some of my other videos you can see what I have done to it. My car does it all race daily driving grocery getter road trip car it never lets me down.
@@jeffreycattelino3996 Great to hear, and nice that you put your car through its' paces on a regular basis. I miss track duty and some epic twisty drives, I still do a bit but not near what I used to. So in your opinion these Petlas tires definitely exceed any expectations you had about cheap tires? They seem to check all the boxes to be honest, and look forward to giving them a try. Did they take much weight to balance them, and I assume they have stayed trouble free? Thanks again for your input. 👍
The tires didn't take much weight to balance. They haven't given me any issues. Driving in the rain is great.
You saw the media around the center tube at each end. Not rip off the end caps.
I did both.
You must be psychic i was just looking at oil filter cutting tools last weekend
I got this for $15 from eBay the link is in the description of the video. It definitely is a nice tool to have to look at your filter media to see if your bearings are failing among other parts in the engine.
STP uses a spring and the super tech uses a stamp spring. And filter medium is slightly different in STP. Unfortunately you cannot get the MP super tech models anymore. They only carry the ST. Which the only difference is the MP uses a silicon drain back and ST uses a rubber.
Walmart discontinued the better filter and only sell the lower level filter.
Good find. 👍. Should send into black stone for testing. 😊
After I use it possibly.
How well would you say they do in rain?
They actually do great in rain I live in Arizona USA we have severe monsoons and I have not hydroplaned once.
I just recently bought some of that valvoline restore and protect for my genesis 2.0t, it says it can remove up to 100 percent of carbon with continuous use, im hoping its good at cleaning because the previous owner neglected my car a lot lol
Be aware if there is a bunch of sludge the filter and oil will need to be changed in hundreds of miles not thousands of miles.
@@jeffreycattelino3996 I never thought of that I'm glad you mentioned that
There are videos on here showing that
The additives in that will destroy your cat over time. I sure hope you're keeping an eye on your oil pressure. That oil is WAY to thick for that motor. Your oil filter will be bypassing a lot. I sure hope any one else who owns a Gen Coupe 2.0T do not use this weight. That's insane...smh
You should watch my other video talking about what Hyundai recommends from the owners manual on what oil viscosities are recommended and listen to and read what the *1 says smh.

Amazing video, did you use synthetic or non synthetic oil for the the genny. I have a bk2 and the previous owner ran 5w30 euro, but unsure if I should go with non synthetic or synthetic oil, if you can help that would be amazing.
I use conventional oil for me it is about cost of oil and my oil change intervals. The cost is less than $20 for the oil and I use it for 3k miles then change it. My thought process is to change the oil sooner rather than later no matter the type of oil. Changing your oil is less expensive than changing out your engine or rebuilding it.
@jeffreycattelino3996 You are 100% correct. i am in the process of rebuulding my nephews engine, and after that, rebuild another one since i have 2 complete longblocks. Folks OIL is cheaper than an engine rebuild.
Good job I been trying to tell people about this I use 5w40 Oil and lucas oil stabilizer and I have 145000 mileage and it's still running great
People still don't want to listen even when the facts are presented to them. With the *1 and all of the failed engines with bad bearings they still use 5w30 or 5w20.
