About 2 and a half years have passed since the Day 2&3 video - in that time I have built a very small shed in my driveway and moved the bike from where it was being eaten everyday by a giant St Bernard. The list of things to fix is very long - but in this first video I am starting with the basics - trying to get the starter motor to turn with the starter button - it did this initially when we t...

Great to have these. Thank you Dee.
Thanks for posting Dee! 🙌
Awesome cat! lol Thanks for making the video.
Haha that's cheered me up. I don't have a brake bleed kit and on about press 9 of the lockout button. I'm going to get me one of those. Thank you.
Jesus I can not believe your advising people to do this.
Where can one get this Gadget ?
🥰❤
Lovely vid my good man. I was going to ask why you don't just rewire it from scratch as it's a custom. So basically, you have a wire goes from the battery to the ignition switch then from there to the push button switch, then from the push button goes all the way down to your solenoid. This is the live side of the circuit and the switches are just interrupts effectively along the way, the solenoid itself is the load within the circuit, the bit that uses the electricity. from there the will be a black wire that then goes to ground or earth (usually the frame and there will be an earth strap from the frame to the negative of the battery). The solenoid is just an electro magnet that connects a heavier voltage cable for the starting bit, of which you will have a thick cable from the battery and a thick cable to that terminal on the starter. The starter of course is now the load and is itself earthed out usually by the actual bolts that bolt the starter to the engine which as we know is connected to the frame which we also know is directly earthed to the negative of the battery. That's it. Now for the ignition circuit. Goes from the battery up to the ignition switch and then to the handlebar cluster and runstop switch (but not the push button start) then goes from there to the coil and the cdi unit, the live feed will be split, unlike with points where it goes from coil to the points and to earth with a condensor to take up the ungrounded power as an extra boost when the points break, the cdi has to be fed with a feed to activate it. So in the cdi, there will be a power feed, and a common earth, then there will be a signal wire from the crank and then possibly another feed from the coils. This is what was there on my fireblade cdi unit. But that's it basically, a wiring diagram can help, but when you understand both of these circuits, then suddenly it's a lot less frightening. So you can actually create your own temporary loom externally to make sure that actual components are working as they should. Following the wiring after is fairly straight forward. One last thing, with CDI units, then need something like 9.2V for them to ignite, and as it's a digital system 9.1V means no spark, and 9.2 and above means a spark. The actual rating you can find online for the ignition system you have, but it's worth knowing, I've seen lots of people try to start a bike with a dead battery and all it needs is some corroded wires to drop the voltage below the threshold for a spark fro the CDI unit. Hope that helps with some understanding and troubleshooting.
Absolutely precious❤️❤️❤️
A Haynes workshop manual is a great investment for any older motorcycle owner. Progress is a great motivator.
check the saftey switch on the clutch lever you pull in the clutch and push the starter button should roll over at that point both are tied together clutch switch and starter switch
Ive had 6 zeds and my is a z1000a madmax bike
Good man dee, surely your mechanicing days in desmonds should come in handy here 😜 look forward to seeing her chooch
Cheers Brian - I just want to hear it run!
I had a 1981 KZ 1000J. I don't know if there is a mechanical ignition advance behind the pickup coil plate on the 1100. If it has one, make sure it's its not stuck.
I have watched about 15 TH-cam videos showing an installation of the Dyna Ignition system - and every one of them uses a mechanical advancer - so I thought - that's my problem - I don't have a rotor that turns by hand, it must be stuck or missing or broken - then after some more googling I found out that this engine doesn't have a mechanical advancer!
Thank you, worked perfect
You're welcome!
I just got the same issue and i found out the bolt holding the wire in had vibrated loose
Cool stuff, mate! It saved me time, money and the hustle of dealing with my dear plumber. I have been waiting on him for 5 days now.
Glad I could help!
Where can you get that apparatus please
I put a link in the description
I found that just loosening the screw and then pushing the button works fine. Some oil will come out with the air but not much and it will then fire.
Yes - on some boilers in some houses that works, and to be honest - that is the case the majority of the time - I've had houses in the past where that is all you need to do - but my last two houses the bottom of the oil tank is lower than the boiler - so you don't have gravity helping you.
@@DeeDoherty77 haven't seen that issue before 👍
I've tried this but I'm unsure witch is the valve exactly, wish I could send a picture so you can help pin point it out ..
There should be a name and model number on your boiler somewhere - google that and the bleeder valve location
Cats literally don't listen to us 🤣
Alfie is so nosey
Constantly trying to kill me that cat - always waits til I'm walking out of a room then tries to trip me!
Thanks this saved my ass, boiler ran out of fuel. Then wouldn't fire. Despite me checking it had fuel all the way to the copper fitting just on the side of the boiler. I pressed the reset button about 20 times and nothing. Then bled it like in this video (I just pushed some clear pvc hose in the bleed hole and sucked). Then it fired right up. I was very close to calling someone out I thought it was goosed. Thanks again
No problem - glad I could help!
Bleed the boiler but still not firing up
If it's fully bled and not firing up then the problem may be elsewhere - but make sure to fill the little bottle - sometimes I get impatient and try to fire it up before the bottle is filled and it turns out that there is still a little air in the system
This video just saved the day 🙏🏻
Thanks! Glad I could help!
Sick video!! I was wondering if you happen to know how to unlock the top speed on a kd58c display, so that I can go 28 mph plus on throttle only? I have a 2024 Sole E (24). I have watched every TH-cam video related to the kd58c display, and Reddit, and I can’t find anything. Thanks
C2 heating oil is highly carcinogenic. DO NOT inhail the fumes. This idea is fine if you use a vacuum pump with a bleed kit but please do not do this!
There seems to be some conflicting evidence on this - some studies with mice have shown liver or skin cancer and other studies have shown this not to be true - here is what I found on the CDC page wwwn.cdc.gov/TSP/ToxFAQs/ToxFAQsDetails.aspx?faqid=515&toxid=91#:~:text=Some%20studies%20with%20mice%20have,carcinogenic%20effects%20of%20fuel%20oils. But if you are in any doubt - use the suction pump that comes in the kit!
This is the mixer we use with my band - it is the best mixer I've ever used! Here is the link to have a closer look - amzn.to/3O4gpCg
For anyone who find this helpful, and I'm guessing there's a few (64,000 views so far) - here is the link to buy the same bleed kit I used - amzn.to/3S3Ds1u
kick the blinking cat out of the way i am bloody freezing 🥶🥶🥶🥶
Great video mate I’m sure a lot of happy people in winter now 😂 but an Easier way to do this is switch on your heating, then follow the same steps as in video, (take red cover off, unscrew the Allen key screw, but instead of buying a peice of kit, just use an old bottle put it over the oil sour and press the red button, this will cycle the oil out into the bottle, do this 2 times, then screw Allen back in and hit the reset button again and you should be golden 💪💪
That's what I used to do in my last house - but in this house I would have to push that button about 30 times - which is why I use this method now!
Tried this with a jiggle siphon and it worked perfectly. Thanks for the guidance!
Glad it helped!
hi when our boiler fires up the air vent ducting pipe shakes then it goes to lockout any advice?
Thats a bit beyond my level of expertise I'm afraid!
That is not 75 pounds worth of fuel
It is when you adjust for sarcasm!
But heating is ON or OFF when i do this?
Doesn't matter - the boiler itself will not be running until it's bled - and that can be done with the boiler on or off - or course, it needs to be on when you hit the button at then
Your a genius thank you kindly 🙏
Would you hurry up please
The whole video is only 5 minutes long ??? - but I will try to be faster in future!
Does this damage your health ? All the gas / fumes of petrol in your lungs?
As I'm only doing it for a few seconds I would say that any harm is extremely minimal. But I'll also add that I'm not a doctor!
Sucking that into your lungs can’t be good!
There is a pump with the kit you can use - it's just faster to suck! 😅
@@DeeDoherty77 I see. I’ll stick with the pump.
Awesome, got mine going in like 2 pushes of the button
Druggy plumbers up north suckin on kero fumes. 😅
Great video, lovely cat, Thanks!
Where could I buy one of them kits in store in an emergency if you can’t wait for online delivery
amzn.to/3S3Ds1u - That's the one I use!
Do ye hav the heat on for this?
No - the boiler doesn't have to be on to bleed it
Thank you Alfie for your input. Couldn't have done it without You!
Good video, got me sorted..cheers
No problem - glad I could help!
Jump the CAD cell once lit… old school. 3/8th or 7/16th wrench and a cup. Source: I’m a tech taught by guys who did it since the 60’s and working for companies that didn’t provide me tools. I’m not sucking the oil out of someone’s nasty boiler that probably sat in shit water at some point in its life. I have a push pull pump and a CO2 gun if I HAVE to do that. Open bleeder, jump cad cell or if it’s a protectorelay system pull the burner relay, and let the burner pump do it for you. It locks out due to failed TFI (trial for ignition) so you pass it artificially. In NY oil is 3.499/gallon.
Thanks, restarted like 5 times, didn't work, watched this video, unscrewed that screw, restarted twice and it started spraying kerosene. 🤣😊
You may have missed a step 😂 - or added a new one! Never press the button while the screw is out unless you have a bottle to catch the oil
Do you really need to press the button 25 times, seems extreme
I did - before I bought the kit and switched to this method of bleeding - my boiler is higher than my oil tank so the oil keeps running back down the pipe when bleeding the old fashioned way of pushing the button over and over
Yep, it's a pain!
