Ms. Fertilizer
มุมมอง 655 หลายเดือนก่อน
The nitrogen and phosphorous in fertilizers hurt fish, wildlife and people. Fertilizer negatively affects water quality and makes it difficult for aquatic plants to thrive. Keep our waterways healthy by not using fertilizer during the rainy months. Miami-Dade County and Pinecrest both have laws that ban fertilizer use from May 15 through October 31.

Rumor: Florida is a great state to live in Fact: Florida is a crime infested shit hole with more human trafficking and drug trade than 92% of the country!

The rules generally accepted are: 1 - Always assume a gun is loaded 2 - Never point a gun at anything you don't want to destroy 3 - Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot 4 - Be aware of your target and what is behind it. Your Rule number 3 could lead to people believing a gun is not loaded because you are supposed to keep them unloaded. Whenever there is an "accidental discharge" aka "negligent discharge" it is a violation of 1 of the 4 rules.

I grew up there. Spent 25 years in the 33156 zip code. However, I don't call it Pinecrest. I lived there prior to it being called Pinecrest. It wasn't incorporated and called Pinecrest until 1996. It was unincorporated Dade County when I grew up there... and yes it was known as Dade County, not Miami Dade County. The area is nice because there are all big lots, no sub divisions, no gated communities, many ways in and out of the neighborhood, it's safe, great police presence, and it's peaceful unlike other parts of Miami. If you can afford it, it's one of the nicest places to live in Miami just like it was in the 1950's, 1960's, 1970's, & 1980's.
The two main reasons we incorporated was to take zoning decisions away from the county, because we were not being heard and to take over policing our community because the county was stretched too thin to provide rapid response times. With that history, it is a sad day when our elected officials do not listen to their constituents, their neighbors. Unfortunately this is what is happening in Pinecrest now. The Council, or members of it, seem dead set on increasing density along the US1 corridor and introducing mixed use (residential coupled with commercial) along the corridor. In a survey conducted by the Village to get a feeling for the residents' position on this issue, the overwhelming majority of respondents were against increased density and mix use in the Village. Did the Council listen? No. The Village then held a "town hall" meeting at Pinecrest Gardens. Several hundred residents attended. With few exceptions everyone was against the proposed mixed use/increased density "vision" being advance by the Council. What did the Council do in response? Did it listen to the residents, did it abandon the "vision"? No, it spent several hundred thousand dollars of your tax money to hire a consultant to sell this idea to us. If you ask yourself, why do we need this petition, that is why. Now the Council has resorted to scare tactics to try to persuade residents not sign the petition, telling residents that every zoning issue will have to voted on by the entire Village. It is another sad day when our Council, our neighbors, resorts to this type of disinformation. The truth is the proposed charter change is one paragraph long and states quite clearly that any change to the text (the written zoning code) that 1. creates a new zoning district; 2. that would change a definition used in the land use regulations; 3. that would allow a use not currently permitted; 4. will increase residential density, allow additional hotel or accommodation units per acre; or 5. increase lot coverage, height restrictions or floor area ratios, will have to be voted on by the residents of Pinecrest. THE PETITION DOES NOT: "Seek to undermine our local system of government as we know it"; DOES NOT PUT "every zoning change - large or small- to a village wide vote"; IS NOT a "fundamental, structural change to our 26 year Charter"; IS NOT "a threat to our open, transparent, sunshine government. The fact of the matter is the change in the Charter would have very little impact on day to day lives of the residents of Pinecrest. The BIG issue here is the Council's failure to listen to the people, the people they are supposed to represent, continuing to try to push something that the residents clearly do not want and spending hundreds of thousands of our dollars with a private consulting firm to try and change our minds. If the members of the Council ask themselves, "who is to blame for this uprising?", they need look no further than the nearest mirror.
It's like an old man.... holding on to his virginity until he's 100.... Finally banging... and then he goes to the garage with a shotgun and says goodbye world. That's this tree. Sorry. Weird thought.
Would like m ore restaurants and outdoor seating,

I need this palm for my park.... 🙏🙏 please share with me some more information
This is my grandparents cottage. They gave mother and dad (Bettie and James Buck) a parcel of land right next door and that's where Daddy built our home. Granny wouldn't let mother spank us, and being a tomboy always in trouble, I frequently climbed over the low rock wall and ran to this cottage to avoid a spanking. Many, many happy and loving years were spent in Granny and Papa's house. Papa had the most beautiful flowers and plants everywhere and I remember their home as a tropical garden outside. He worked hard at the Fairchild Gardens, then came home and took care of his house and property to keep it as beautiful as he kept things at work. He had hand-dug and installed an irrigation system throughout much of the property and had a pump shed out back to run the well water through the pipes he installed. The last time I was at the property, after moving the house to the Gardens, the old pump shed was still there. Their "cottage" was located at 9100 S.W. 67th Ave., and our home next door was 9020 S.W. 67th Ave. The homes that stand on our land now are a far cry from the little home built by Papa, and then the home next door built by my Dad. Granny was a homemaker and a deeply religious Roman Catholic. She made the best biscuits and canned a lot of fruit and jams from things grown on their property. I remember a few mango, and in particular, loquat trees that I would climb up and sit on the branches eating loquats as I picked them. That was one of the places I frequently tore the seat out of my shorts when climbing down, and getting me into trouble, causing me to stay with Granny to avoid spankings (well, at least until I got home). Granny was a wonderful cook and made such delicious desserts and canned goods. She also sat in her rocking chair by the window and knitted or crocheted for hours at a time. I still have several of the items she made while rocking in that chair, including the knitting needles and crochet hooks she used. They also had several chickens that I remember helping to feed and gather eggs. Papa made a beautiful wood prayer bench for her shortly after they married, that sat on the floor next to their bed. Granny knelt on that bench every night to say her evening prayers before going to sleep, and kept her rosary under her pillow. She also had several religious statues on the night stand beside the bed and on a little shelf Papa built in their bedroom for her crosses and religious pieces. I still have her prayer bench and many statues as well. As I said, she was a very faithful Catholic and we all attended services at Epiphany church. That's where we 3 older grandkids went to school and had our First Communion before Dad took a job which relocated us to Louisville, KY. Daddy passed away in November of 2001, but mother (their daughter) lived to be 92 1/2 and passed New Years Eve, 2019. I remember Granny and Papa's house even better than I do my house next door, where we lived for several years. I guess it was always so homey and a place to go to get hugs and kisses from Granny and Papa. They were the most loving people I remember from my childhood. Granny was the caregiver of the family, and Papa would do absolutely anything to help out every friend, neighbor and even stranger that needed something. He gave so much of himself to all that met him. I know a lot of the area around where we lived was filled with plants and trees from cuttings that Papa had given them from his yard. He made his world a beautiful place, and Granny made it a safe and loving place. They were the best!
Amazing
This could be my relative..My last name is Diehl
Ray and his wife Sue were friends of my parents. He and my father went to the University of Miami together in the early 1950s.
My grandparents were Carl and Mary Whilden. Their daughter Bettie my mother. Loved seeing photos of Granny and Pop’s house I spent many years running up the path to get there, we lived next door in a home on the same two acres. Barbara Buck Whitehead. Barbara.whitehead@att.net
Ray shot a color photo of my sister, Dorrene Stacey, for the cover of the Sunday, March 4th, 1956 edition of the Miami Herald. I was six months old at the time and mentioned in the accompanying article along with my mother, Alice Jean Stacey, and more photos by Ray. I have scans of those newspaper photos! I hope the original negatives still exist and will be archived. We also lived in Pinecrest, where I rode my horse everywhere.
