Concerto for Violin and Orchestra, Mvts. III & IV, by Karl Boelter
The Concerto for Violin and Orchestra is in four movements, the last two of which are included here. Movement III is recognizable as a scherzo, with a fast triple meter and a light-hearted, dance-like character. This leads without pause into the last movement, which is called "Progression." It begins hauntingly with muted violin over a pulse that is, at first, 30 seconds long and that increases in speed and tempo until the music is racing at over 240 beats per minute by the end of the work. Performed by Elizabeth Rowin and the Czech National Orchestra under the direction of Paul Freeman. To hear more of this concerto or explore other music by Karl Boelter, please visit karlboelter.com.
