I’ve used the Kemper head with the FCB1010 and Uno chip for about 12 years. Having the extra cables are indeed a bit annoying. However considering the price and having plenty of buttons and 2 pedals, it works well for me.m
is this the black one?
yes it was
great video! I coincidentally just got a Serus T (used) and Serus J (new) much like yours. I LOVE them! My T has a "chunky C" neck and maple fretboard. Do either of yours have the chunky neck? Do you have a preference?
@@MrDonovant thanks! Both of mine have the chunky neck profile. It’s really not that big.
@@TimHeerebout I like the chunky. If I had to get another one, I would want chunky, but I play enough Hendrix stuff with the thumb wrapping over the top of the neck… And I don't have huge hands, the thinner neck is more helpful with that. I played a Novo with the band for the first time last night and I took the J with the thinner neck and it was spectacular. I was able to get such great sounds and the mastery Tremelo is a game changer. I don't know how they got those P90 so quiet? I will take the T next week. The thinner neck isn't much thinner than some of my favorite Strat necks. I think they're "medium C" should be like 1 mm or 2 mm thicker. But it's fine the way it is, and I was looking at some other boutique brands that are competitors and they chose the same .83" profile. But if I had to choose, I would choose the chunky.
Flat mode sounded best imo
The powercab sounds more high definition in my opinion but in a live setting, you would most likely use both at the same time anyways and in ear monitors. Apples to oranges in my opinion.
I have the EON and I’m using it with a boss GT-1. Sounds good to me! This allows for a lighter travel. My line 6 amp weighs almost 40lbs compared to the EON at 25lbs. Use an EQ and obviously the preamp in your modeler to get the best result. EQ is the most underrated pedal that not a lot of players use but it’s a pedal that should be in the chain.
What will the audience notice
It's not Clean sounding
Terrible demo! Why such extreme Dial settings right off the hop. Ever heard of 12:00 o'clock?
I still can't believe how many still get the concept wrong, they must be listening with their eyes instead obviously!!!!
The bottom line is, you put crap into anything you get the same crap out at minimum, often it's worse actually, the secret is a good frfr cab will still sound like shit if the incoming is set incorrectly initially, a crappy modeller can only be slightly improved if the output is set to suit the intended cab as frfr only if the setting has been made available. I use a modeller myself that in a blind test has proven it murders most conventional guitar amps...including a half a dozen costly brands and their cabs....it's all about the output on the modeller being set correctly first, otherwise you are re-amping and making a dreadful audio mess
Yes sounds good with blue
Guy, you might consider treating your room. Beautiful guitars though.
Great video. Do you still have your Novos? I have had a Novo Serus J and Serus S for about five years now. I play both guitars almost every day. Both guitars have pickups made by Lollar. Novo Serus J and Serus S are both fantastic instruments as they should be at those prices. I like reliced guitars just for practical reasons. It doesn’t bother me if accidentally bump the guitar to a corner of a table etc.
I appreciate you making this video, I've been curious about these guitars and this video helped educate me a bit. Thank you!
Jesus, listen to the room, lol! How the hell can you have a studio set up in there? Get some treatment dude.
Where is the no talking part 😂 I just love to hear guitars not being talked about guitars ❤
Temu music is win 😂 just joking great video bud subscribed
Telecaster bridge or P90’s I love the tele pickups but I want have to buy a Les Paul and I get a some P90’s with a Jazzmaster tremolo it’s like I created it in a lab!🎸🤯🔫
Didn't kno jbl ion has a frfr mode
Just what i was lookin for thx!
I have been racking my brain going crazy. What is the first riff you’re playing?? It’s on the tip of my tongue. Great playing and thank you for the demo. I wondered how it would handle the tones of the genre. Looking forward to reviving my midnight rose!
Ah it’s Lion and the Lamb! Finally jogged my memory lol
Yup, Lion and the Lamb :) Thanks for the kind words!
Great sounding rig my dude!
The Power cab sounds much better .
I've switched from tube amps to modelers few weeks ago. I'm true tube amps lover, but POD HD Pro gives me everything, sounds good thru REAL guitar cab (and real guitar speaker). I don't like any FRFR, they always sounds so processed/compressed/thin. I want to hear my amp, my guitar thru GUITAR SPEAKER, not 'sound image of guitar speaker picked up by microphone'. I just want speaker, not speaker + mic. If You still have to carry a cab, why just not bring up a cab with classic guitar speaker?
Not a clean sound to start...didn't help the review.
My opinion differs,...
My frfr108 is very dark sounding ,so looking for something else powercab 112 maybe ,any thoughts?
Great video mate, thank you. What would you say is a good price for a use novo solus h2?
IMO a lot of that depends on whether it’s a custom order or select. The custom orders are taking 18 months now so I think there’s a premium on those ones. Select I think 90% of new is about as good as one can expect really. Unfortunately I don’t think there are many deals to be found with Novo these days.
I love how guys that buy these are so gear obsessed. Go on and on about details like flamed maple necks, nickel frets, ...the craftsmanship...then they play 3 notes of a Wallflowers song
Looking forward to your videos bro!
I really want a serus j but the wait is 18months. That is absurd. I don’t even want a custom order really, I just want SS frets and different color pickups plus minimal wear
I just got a novo 3 days ago Ive been laying for 40 years BEST OF THE BEST!!!
I find all pa cabs make an electric guitar sound like an acoustic. You’d need to re-eq for more mid on the pa cab
hi Tim , you sold me your Shiva 15 years ago , i moved onto a 1997 Esctacy in 2012. Sold it last year and bought a Kemper Stage from New Brunswick. The owner used for PW concerts. He had 3 of your profiles , really nice !
Only hearing Great things about NOVO!!! EVERY musician deserves one ,,, including this guy!! Yep,,, gettin one or two for the studio!! Peace brother
Great video, thanks! Btw may I ask if there is much difference between using the FRFR or powercab vs the yamaha studio monitors you have back there?
I use kemper with roland fc300 midi Controller and one fs-7 switch i got all effects from kemper on a tap of my foot. U can't assign up to 8 sounds on the one performance sound. The only draw back on the kemper is, that it has fixed midi numbers for effects and stomps. It would be awesome if you cant change them in kemper do desired number. Price of the remote plus few expression pedals is too high!
Thanks for the honest review. Great video, great playing!
omg you talk more than you play
just ordered a miris j..only have to wait a year..hopefully it will be worth the wait
I ordered a TC a couple of weeks ago. We’re in agony together lol.
Hi, am considering the Suhr IRL or captor X, the latter because it has attenuators, but you mentioned how to get a 3dB drop using the Suhr. Could you pls elaborate on this one? Thanks!
If you attach both a speaker and the SUHR RL as you would when using two cabinets you’ll get -3db from the power not all being sent to the speaker.
I know what he's saying as far as 'on the fly' .....BUT .....with the ability to Morph in each channel x5 and 125 Performance slots, you have 1250 possible tones - and that's before adding the four 'stomp' effects - using the sweep of the expression pedal - as well as Tap. The flexibility is there. I have a preset that I could gig all night without moving to a different preset - and I'm only using Channel 1-4. The 'problems' he raises sound more like a preparation problem than a shortcoming of the Kemper/Remote. If you have a genre in each Performance Slot ready to go, you'll be prepared for any gig. Not pooping on his review. Just offering a different perspective. I'd hate for someone to pass on the Kemper/Remote because they don't think it'll hang. It will.
Thanks for your good video and I fount an adapter (SAT UB-1) that can connect headphones by connecting to the amplifier speaker terminal on etsy. .
Leo Fender Music Man comes to mind!
I love the mission statement of novo guitars. That blue guitar looks quite large , is it just me or my phone ? The lower bout looks big. And thats not a deal breaker or a knock at novo, its just an observation, i dig novo. Im canadian too bro, cheers
Hey man! The way the guitar curve I never really felt them to be "big". Especially the J as it's has a contoured body so it's actually pretty thin in places.
I went sort of hybrid. I gave everything up and went Helix and was happy, but still felt it could be better, so I built a board and added a Prism/Bloom, Big Sky and POG2. This makes adjusting on the fly pretty easy, since it's mainly just amp/IR/EQ tweaks when going live. I'm looking into adding a couple of analog ODs (which is how I stumbled on your channel). I always tell people that Line6, Kemper, Fractal, etc., wouldn't have put so many I/Os on their flagships if they thought their product was perfect!
Maybe I missed it, but aside from the comparison of these 2 pieces, is the quality through headphones high and near original relative to the amp without the reactive load? I need to be quiet / silent often but still need sufficient quality for recording. In particular, I'm looking a Supro Keeley for use with a substantial effects loop, and really hoping the Suhr RL IR can save me. I'd be on headphones to dial things in and practice. Would I be sacrificing too much quality with this set up?
There's two ways to answer that. The first is to talk about recording end product - in this case I think you will get comparable or better quality than trying to mic an amp. Most of us don't have excellent mics and preamps to record through which of course are somewhat baked into IR's. On the other hand, if you're asking whether the sound through headphone is like or as good as playing without them then I'd say no, there is a difference. I've gotten very used to the experience now but a lot of people find it tough at first. I hope that helps!
@@TimHeerebout Thank you, the recording aspect is exactly what I was interested in knowing more about.
The thing i dont understand is: if you can physically decide the order by just pressing the buttons, why add a knob to do that?! I own this pedal and its messing my head!! X)
What do you mean? The toggle switch is only applicable if you have both channels of the pedal turned on. That toggle determines if the boost feeds the drive or the other way around. It produces very different results based on the stacking order.
I like your Canadian tuxedo.
I am, after all, Canadian.
