Amazing how different KMET sounded from 1970 to 1978. From a freeform format with a lot of obscure records and a lot of blues songs to all (rock) hits all the time. In fact most of what they played on this aircheck can still be heard on classic rock stations today. I actually enjoyed both years of KMET as different as they were. It was nice to hear a break from Mike Harrison. I take it he did middays at the time? I remember when he hosted a nationally syndicated rock countdown show in the late 70s/early 80s called the "Great American Radio Show".
I too thank you for this wonderful gift over an hour plus of WLS Chicago’s best and the magical time of the best of 69 thanks RRJ
You're very welcome!
I want to go back. DJ's & music was so good. Thank you for posting this!
You're very welcome!
Thank you for sharing. I remember 95 1/2 WDHF, but I don't remember the 'F 95' handle. The DJ sounds like Captain Whammo but I don't think that's him.
You're very welcome!
So happy to find more WLS way to go joe 👍🏻
😅 5 hours of 1972 is like a direct-from-Santa gift ! 🎁 With the Wolfman as the bow! 🎀 Much Thanks RR Joe….HaPPy HoLiDaYs! 🎄
You're very welcome, my friend! And Happy Holidays to you and yours as well!

An early Christmas gift from New Years Day 1970! Thank you🙏 and a merry Christmas and prosperous new year to you & yours.
Thank you! And the very same to you as well! 😀
6:40 - I could’ve sworn that was Jackie Rogers Jr singing.
Amazing sound
1976
Thanks!
Great Drake radio
0:09 That's brilliant! 0:27 The nurse decides all hell has broken loose and she's outta there!
I miss Oldies Radio K-EARTH 101 FM.
❤ Excellent 👌👍
This is the shift I identify with your Duke, Dave Sholin
Great music Great Radio KFRC one of the greatest thanks as aways RRJ
You're very welcome!
Nice change of pace, a Country music station! You keep coming up with the best things to listen to! I guess this station started out playing Rock 'n' Roll/Top 40 when the station went on the air in '62, then switched to Country in '66.
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Harry Harrison is my 2nd favorite DJ, behind only the Real Don Steele!
Nothing beats the sound of real Drake boss radio. Heard Jay in 1967 on visit to SF from NYC. One if my favorite Drake jocks!
Thank you
You're very welcome!
Absolutely love this. Grew up listening since 63. Along with kcbq.
😁 i listen this staion star in '99
I'm 72..CKLW through my teenage years and beyond....Thanks for uploading Retro Joe and especially unscoped..
You're very welcome!
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you !! I'm LOVING these early KMET broadcasts!! Please keep them coming!!
You're very welcome!
Interesting music mix. You’d hardly call it progressive. More like eclectic. Soul jazz folk a little rock…wonder if it was just this shift in particular?
The song radio clip from 1964 on KGB radio reminds me of the old days when I used to listen to this guy and besides that, he was a very funny disc jockey he would tell jokes and just leave you in the stitches when he laughs what I mean to say is he leaves you in stitches but he can still make you laugh!
Great showcase of the Pre K101 days in San Francisco! Thanks for the aircheck Retro Radio Joe!
You're very welcome!
Santee sure has changed since then, sadly so has radio.
The day I turned 18. 🎉
A repaired recording done by myself for the Recoveries group page i run. I have many other yet released POTP shows for the future.
Thanks, Paul!
KHJ was still going strong in 1975 Keep it coming RRJ 👍🏻
This is what I miss about 70s Top 40 radio the most: a seamless segue between Led Zeppelin and Barbara Streisand 😂
One of the few Top 40 stations from 1976 that are still in the format today.
Fab

This aircheck is Tuesday December 27, 1966.
This was around the time I got into radio and played all of these on the air!
If you Leave Me Now. I remember on a Sunday afternoon hearing this drift out of a radio probably around The same time as it was a week before Thanksgiving . Queens NY . Since then everytime I hear it it takes me back to that moment and I can feel it .
It takes me back to late 1976 as well. My mom loved this song so much.
Great playlist, and a total time machine, with the broadcast EQ and background fry. Probably my favorite so far, I hated to see it end, soft rock perfection.
Vancouver here, KFI boomed into Canada at night as 640 was Clear channel and may still be, Ron sounded better on KFI, I realize the better quality of FM at the time (bandwidth, stereo, etc), but AM sounds punchier as it uses more freeway compression, just my opinion
What song is that at 10:52?
It's a commercial for H.I.S.
@@retroradiojoe4486 Thanks.
@@45vinyljunkie 😀
Anything from Ron makes for a great day.
Agreed! Very missed
"From the entertainment capital of the world....K-R-T-H-----Los Angeles" Miss their top of the hour Legal ID. Miss their real oldies. Audacy has ruined their oldies stations. Wonder why they are bankrupt?
Is that Linda in the picture above? Thanks for this clip!
Yes, it is Linda. 😀
You're very welcome!
There is just something about her voice. And it’s weird, you won’t catch me dead listening to modern “classic rock” radio, I loathe it. But when I listen to these KLOS clips and others like them from that era, I like radio just fine! But Linda was special from everything I’ve read. I wish she was still here with us!
I would listen to the station at night in Las Vegas. Their signal was so mighty it practically sounded like a local station.
60s Hip Hop Music.
This was a real border blaster and a go-to station for top 40 back in the day.
