Charlie Tuna, a big favorite of my parents. 🎙️📻😁
The car-window speakers were always distorted. BUTT, anyhow, they always sounded better in the back seat anyway , you know what I mean ? dick booth c2024inkRWBEE
KGIL was the longtime home of legendary Los Angeles disc jockey Dick Whittington. 🎙️📻😁
This would be very good to unscoped
😎 ✌🏻Cool
So much excitement radio Back then in LA it was fun to listen to then and the Music excellent.
Nice. Thanks, brother!
You're very welcome!
This is awesome! My Mom, along w my Aunt & Uncles, listened to Alan on WINS here in Eastern PA, the Moondog Network he refers to was WNJR from Newark NJ, and that signal was aimed East at the City. When he was on WINS, show was called the "Rock and Roll Dance Party" and he had two shows.... One from 7-9 PM, then 11pm-2am... Mom told me his energy matched the music he played, although by '57 he had mellowed out a bit....I think he realized how true his quote was when he told a LIFE magazine (I believe) reporter....."let's face it, rock and roll is bigger than all of us" ....thank you for this awesome aircheck, when radio was actual magic you could hear 😎
You're very welcome!
Thank you for this! It was my Mom's favorite station in the 70s...I listened until they left the air in the mid 2000s.
You're very welcome!
Found memories of Charlie Tuna one of the greatest . On the legendary KHJ another good one RRJ
Bill Cullen was the greatest.
This is Charlie Tuna! KHJ wish you lovely evening, stay cool KHJ Folks. Love from iraq
I love this stuff!
wow that guy lived a long time
I never heard "Sweet Sound of Music" by the Bells before. The only Bells song I ever heard was "Stay Awhile". Since it's CKLW I figured the Bells were Canadian and this was a song to meet the quota. I looked it up and sure enough they are Canadian. Glad I discovered the song though, I like it.
I would have loved to have seen the Rascals for $4.
The Rooster Tail was for the 21+ crowd. They are now the 74+ crowd.
Hello again, just noticed there is a brief Friday morning excerpt-Don Buster show from 30:12-38:41, then back to Billy Williams!
thanks for the add'l info Pete!
Thanks for this one. It appears to be Saturday April 8, 1972, based on 2 news reports. It is definitely a Saturday morning.
Thank you soooo VERY much!!!! Circa '54-56, I used to 'hang-around' 1430 WHIL located at, or in, the Medford DUMP. AL BENNETT (later Johnny Dark) did middays. The soon to be Baltimores' Bob Walsh (Louie-the -Lush) did mornings. The 'soon-to-be' WBZ jock Dave Maynard did afternoons . All THREE PERSONALITIES INFLUENCED MY VARIOUS RADIO STYLES. From 1960 on, I raised hell at multiple Springfield-Hartford-Nashville etc. stations as Dick Booth, RICHARD ON THE RADIO etc. I wished I had known of the whereabouts of "AL BENNETT." I have always wanted to give him my thanks for being so important in my early career. So, thanks to you, AL / Johnny. DICK BOOTH. c2024inkRWBEE The following videos are what I became. As RICHARD ON THE RADIO Nashville. '95-'99. th-cam.com/video/H3nVMCC-RYM/w-d-xo.html AS 'FRANK SMITH' IN DRAGNET PARODIES FOR C&P YELLOW PAGES '84-'88. th-cam.com/video/sujTzgyJsIU/w-d-xo.html
LEE MICHAELS!!!!!! YES
This is when....as a child I earned the permission to sit at the dinner table, I was 4, and saw CCR , at the Detroit state fair in July of 1970, along with Johnny Cash
Radio stations sure aren't reading peoples' phone numbers over the air these days. A live read for a political ad? A lot of agency spots, hinting that Des Moines was a big-enough town for those spots. Loved how the jock introd the Pepsi spot as if it was a Joanie Summers record.
Grade 6 memories almost 45 Years ago 🚬
Good man, outstanding broadcaster.
WCAO and Johnny Dark: the soundtrack of my youth!
Almost 50 years ago. I was 14 when this aired. Great times. Back when we had talent on the radio.
Great jock and great music. Every song was a hit.
Watching the football game with the volume off enjoying this blast from the past
Cool!
My American Air-Chexx cassettes long turned to dust. It's great to hear this again! Thanks for sharing so many great airchecks!
You're very welcome!
Jeff Gonzer portrait suitable for framing, and that great classic rock. Thanks for sharing this blast from the past.
You're very welcome!
I turned 32 in 1978😊
His voice sounds very mature for a 20 year-old guy
Omg - this is rad!! Love me some DR. Don!!
🌸🏵Far Out..thank you!🌸🏵
You're very welcome!
He sounds so dry and boring o, so many other recordings I've heard of him that left me wondering what was so good about this guy BUT this recording here is very different and very good and really shows he had style and was great. L9oks like he changed when he was in New York on WINS even before he wenyvto WABC. I wonder why he was so different in New York. He is great here (starting about 4:40 I to this recording) and is real rock and roll radio here whole he was in Cleveland.
The mighty met, yeah KMET is my preferred rock station of all time, I turned 15 in Oct. of 79'. I turned 60 two days ago, I was and still am heavily into Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Rush, Foghat, Etc. Great memories, Thanks for posting these gems of a bygone era! Peace!
You're very welcome! Whoo-Ya!
Now I see (hear) what was so good about this guy. I heard him before and thought, what was so good about him. He sounded so standard or basic before but hear he has STYLE. A real cool daddy-o. This is real and raw. No wonder people liked him. Great music too. What was so bad about payola anyway? I love hearing songs I never heard before (it's a whole lot better than hearungvthe same songs over and cover again monotlolesly) and it seems like payola put more varety of songs on the radio. One reason I liked KIQQ in the early 80's is that they played fresh new wave songs I never heard anywhere else before along with hits I lined. I found out latter they got busted for payola as did Alan Freed 25 years earlier. By the way, they also had a legendary d.j. from the 50's playing 80's music. Jack Lacey. Anyway, great sample of some real good r and b rock and roll radio from the 50's with style.
My favorite movie of all time Awesome RRJ

As of 1958, Nebel would have been on WOR 710. He was only on WMCA from late 1972 to his death in 1978 (co-hosting with his wife Candy Jones).
Thank you!
Honey pack your bags, we're going to Houston
Love this❤ Sounds awesome! I recorded this too. It’s on Mixcloud. I uploaded this, the top 95 of 85, 86 ,87 and 88 over there too. Do you happen to have the top 95 of 1984. The one year I missed as a kid 😂. Thanks!
Were there no movies during the 70’s without a car chase?
