What was that red button you pressed at the end? I’ve never seen that before
Id recognise that sexy guitar no matter the colour. Hats off to a fellow tele player h lover
Hawk 🦅💀
So badly want to learn this
Learning to sing this tune whilst playing was an absolute nightmare ! Saw a video of JM himself saying the best practice was playing the song whilst having a conversation with someone or repeating what’s said on tv and that was what made it click for me
Those of us who had it as a teen in the 80's know exactly how to use it and actually have the DS-1 & 2 on their pedal board today.
Сплошной пердёж, чувак реально глухой. Звук - дерьмо.
I found a Boss DS-1 in a toilet at a bar, the band playing said it wasn't there's and i asked a random dude drinking with a guitar bag, and he said it wasn't his. I wrapped that beauty in a plastic bag, took it home, and bleached it, and now it's my main dirt pedal, it was modded too! SCORE!
The DS-1 sounds harsh and fuzzy.
Def wasnt designed to be a boost
So from the little knowledge I have from recording engineers that put this on record (Vai, Satch, etc) they'd use this in several ways - cranked Fender with Jenson speakers - not as fizzy that way. Cranked Plexi/Marshall, similar but less gain, more to drive the speakers and the DS-1 was a colour boost as you say, into Greenbacks etc. The other way was low gain, low volume but something like a Fender Jnr (8 or 10 inch speaker) and dial the tone back to 9-10 oclock. Now we have more options and I would say at low volume your options are Celestion Blue, Ruby, Hempback etc all sound great with this pedal.
DS-1 in front of a Bassman on the verge of breakup is a fucking BEAST. Just a touch, and it makes that amp breathe, it really is a pedal that shines in some areas, and blows in others.
Amazing tone and amazing chopa
Why not just an mxr distortion pedal???
@@Starchild0920 Because something like a Distorion + or a Boss DS-1 is acting as a gain stage to an amp. These “Amp in a Box” pedals like the SLO, Friedman, or Guvnor are using similar topology and tonality of its big brother counterpart. An alternative to those that can’t drop 5K on a SLO or Friedman BE-100.
Twangy strat junk
I prefer the DS1 off, all the clarity and definition is lost
My first pedal. There is nothing at all wrong with this pedal. My favorite is to run it with a fuzz and reverb , maybe use a wah
I’ve always loved it
Gorgeous body. Guitar I mean.
Sing it!!
Put a tube screamer after it. It works good on a clean channel that way.
@@thomasjefferson2097 any tube screamer style circuit will definitely work, especially if you want that mid hump. However, for something like the DS1, I would probably use something a bit more transparent, like a blue breaker just to give it that extra buttery flavor without altering the DS1 too much.
I love my DS-1. One of my favorites.
Got one in about 79/80, still got it, still works 👍🤟
I particularly like the unmade bed. Adds authenticity!
You're working way too hard with improper finger placements...playing it frusciantes way will make it not only easier but sound better.
Watch any other tutorial or cover, it’s the same thing…..
@@Varone26 not being mean, trying to be helpful...ive learned every rhcp song. Frusciante uses his pinky for the main beginning riff...they played it live once and if u watch itll give u pointers....also....buying the official tab books help alot
Close but not as saturated as SLO
My Strymon Iridium was set to a Dlx Verb very clean. You’ll never get their 100%. These amp in a box pedals give a ball park tone.
What does boutique even mean?
@@Asimo44 numerous things.. small batch, hand built/wired, expensive components, not mass produced, specific brand name association.
i love my ds1, dont care what anyone says
It would be more of a challenge if u didn't have the record playing
Bravo 👏 🎉
Yo, was the first playing clip inspired by the United Shuffle in E by John Mayer Trio (Live) Very unlikely but if so, you’re a legend🤙🔥🔥
@@danielhahn7329 Ding Ding Ding! You are correct sir. Pinning this comment as you’re the only person outta thousands that got it right. Gotta give that Trio performance the credit it deserves. Someone’s gotta tab out Johns part!
It’s true the DS-1 is meant to boost an already somewhat dirty signal but you don’t need a second pedal. Just set your amp so it’s slightly dirty then kick the DS-1 on.
Great job
Ok, the Pedal is cool. more important. Where did you get that killswitch button?
Nice!
Like!
ahhahaaa, How young were you here..... and me and us the same.... How quickly time passes! Like!
wow! great! just continue! one day, you will be known!
Lol. Yea. It sucks hard
kick ass! 🤙
How can you litterly come up with the statement “Not a lot of people know how to use it” I mean do you run surveys on this? Sounds but cocky tbh
i always have my distortion CRRRANKED because i am a FILTHY rocker, tone down, dist up, max gain on amp makes my neurons jump around like little bugs
All though it's not that accurate it's still fucking brilliant
Legend!
I don’t mean to hate but I really dislike the tones in this video, both before and after the pedal is activated
Beautiful strat ! Nice playing dude' the 2 finger part at the end of the riffs is all played around the 12th fret on the A & D string ' you dont have to slide down the neck its too difficult to play cleanly.
Avicii forever!!
Nice. I do the same thing except i use the turqouis colored overdrive pedal. Cant remember who makes it. But its used by the black dahlia murder.
I agree - use it like a color boost to a dirty amp. Same as a tube screamer. Gain/Dist at zero, level about 1:00
The DS-1 is the first pedal I ever bought, who’s hating on this lil guy? I love it!
