In 1987 Martin Jones brought Bio, Nicer, Vulcan and TKid from New York to team up with Goldie and 3D (later of Massive Attack) to create the New York Street Art Show. Here and Now, a Central TV ethnic minority arts programme of the 1980s, covered the preparations for the show at Sun Street Studio in Wolverhampton.

Supreme Rockers were Birmingham's premier crew in 1985. In March 85 they appeared in Electro Rock - the only UK Hip Hop movie which came out on Polygram video. They included Flex and Garfield the Cat - body poppers. This was their performance,at the Electric Arena event - before a battle with Broken Glass later.

Mr Riddles (Tony Morgan) was a well known Birmingham bodypopper and appeared on the Russell Harty Show and ITV Saturday Starship. He specialities were popping by swallowing a lighted cigarette and reguritating it.. he also supported a prone audience member aloft while moving across the floor by popping his body.

Reggerty the Tramp (Norman Nelson) was a regular.. he began with Ace Squad, then he was part of comedy duo Action Replay with Devril May and appeared on Saturday Starship in Jan 1985,His act was a combination of mime and bodypopping - in the persona of a tramp. Norman is now Chair of Hip Hop Heritage. .

Action Replay were Ian and Bryan McIntosh identical body popping twins from Hockley. They appeared on TV AM modelling rainwear during London Fashion Week and appeared at the Ellesse Fashion Show in Munich in 1985.

    Watched this time and time again as Royston Swanson ( swanny )was a mate of mine after he moved to liverpool and I met slim bones through swanny. At swannys funeral alot of the crew was there . He was such a gentleman and a friend

    I went to this exhibition..i5 was amazing for a 16 yr old tagger... a young Goldie , Brim from New york and a guy who later went on to perform with massive attack attack..at the time tagging was a problem the problem was you jad a lot of talented kids that had no out let for their art..and we saw it as a art firm because every letter was carefully formed with styles changing monthly and the idea was to have your unique alphabet copied by your peers and for your tags or piecesto be in the most obscure place ..mo diffrent to social media now .this was a good and bad time ..im happy to see this ive only read about it in a Goldie Autobiography

    I just found this. I would dispute Martin’s claim that this is a mainly negative report. It includes negative comments, reflecting the debate at the time, but the script is a model of balance, and not without a sense of humour.

      You were reporting on an entirely positive event, getting young artists off the streets, encouraging them to use their talent for good .. obviously you need to mention tagging as part of their journey but absolutely no need to dedicate half of the report to it. Anyway, quite literally old news now..
