    I just got a thousand dollar billet converter for my 2019 Silverado 1500 4x4, the transmission shop said there was already too much metal shavings in the pan they wouldn’t put the billet in without the rebuild, so I ended up finding a low low mileage 6l80 out of a totaled Silverado, dk I need to have this transmission reprogrammed??? After the trans is installed can I drive it like 5 miles to the dealer or something in to get it programmed? I have no idea who programs transmissions lol, will driving it 5 miles damage it if it’s not programmed yet?

      I should. Just look up the part number, and you should be able to see on spicers' website if it applies to your vehicle

    How much does this job will cost with original parts. My mechanic replaced the timing chains and gear on my promaster it only lasted for a couple weeks when the engine light came up took back to the shop and after they replace a few sensors and ran a few tests mechanic said I need a new engine because the oil has metal shavings i already spent so much money and now I need a new engine how could they not notice it from the beginning is that something hard to missed he or they just got lazy and didn’t do the work right.

    Your a great micanic, thanks for pointing out everything. I have a ticking in my engine, it's 2014 Town and Country Van. I think it the lift. I scanned the engine and it said cadlic converter need to be replace, and then it said sensor 1 PO 420, bank 1, and sensor bank 2 PO 430 needed to be replaced. When I start it up, I get the lights on the dash to light up like a christmas tree. Speacily when it's cold out and rainy, Not sure what that could be. But it's starting to drive me into det, lol Do you have any idea's???

    Glad I got receipts for the new one when I got my 2012 tahoe ppv and it works great job security most Chevy transmissions are the same as the factory installed in the 60s and then they decided that they needed more plastic and electronics inside as its so easily accessible ford's not being able to add fluid or knowledge of any leaks with a diaper on it that will hold about 4 it's before you get a drop on ground they shouldnt have been power shifting in manual mode lol

    Having issues with mine 2014 gmc sierra. So what’s your opinion replace unit or get rid of the truck. How i know the new unit will come with these upgrades

    • @TechnicianTroy
      @TechnicianTroy 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Depending on what issues you are having would be the deciding factor on what i would do...if you do replace the unit the transmission will not come with the upgraded thermal bypass valve. There are several aftermarket options I have heard work well. Also make sure you flush out the cooler amd lines as well.

  • @saroku
    @saroku 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I imagine replacing the thermal bypass and the torque converter would probably fix most all of the problems.

    • @TechnicianTroy

      Just foing the thermal bypass and tuning the trans will make it Last forever

  • @nolegator8745
    @nolegator8745 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    6l80 is a very good transmission, with very minimal upgrades it will last a long time! Sadly the thermal bypass is the 2014+ models kill them..other than that it is great. My 2012 6l80 4x4 has 215k and counting 0 issues (12 didn't come with thermal bypass) I just isolated the atf cooler (and installed a tru cool 40k) from the radiator oem routing and trans temps never go above 160f in 100f summer Florida weather Hauling 2tons in a trailer @75mph.

    • @TechnicianTroy
      @TechnicianTroy 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't disagree the transmissions aren't bad. But the over engineering of everything always seems to be the down fall.

    I have 3 different brake line tools/hydraulic flaring tools. The bar & C-clamp (plumbing type), a inline w/forcing screw type, & the one that mounts into a vice, has the spinning die set & you pull the handle but, I need this type to for on vehicle repairs! I considered vevor but, after watching reviews, & myself having the same style dies on my best brake tool, I feel as if the mastercool set is one of the best! I have also seen the SURR BRAND which looks nice as well but, does not have anywhere near the versatility!!! Eventually I will aquire both the Mastercool & the SURR( 4 tighter spaces)

    • @TechnicianTroy
      @TechnicianTroy 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The Mastercool I absolutely love. It works so well.

  • @chriskalchert5112
    @chriskalchert5112 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The problem with them is the thermal bypass valve. It’s the thermostat type block on the lines. The old one opens up at 203 degrees F the new one has the # 7 stamped on the bottom and opens at 163. If yours is still good swap em while you can and flush the cooler, yw.

    • @TechnicianTroy
      @TechnicianTroy 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Correct. I wish gm would have sent out a recall or TSB for the issue. But since they didn't, it falls upon the customers.
