Early Cosplay 1995-2000
In the mid to late 1990s Cosplay was growing in popularity. More and more professional costume designs were appearing on cosplayers on a regular basis at conventions around the world. At the same time, comic book publishers were starting to hire models, and actresses to dress up as characters in their books as a way of helping sell more comic books at conventions. Actresses like Carmen Electra were hired as a models at conventions before eventually going on to become big stars. This video is a hodgepodge of sometimes dissimilar ingredients that mixed together to form the convention circuit of the 90s.

This brings back a lot of great memories. I use to go to the old comic conventions at the Congress hotel here in Chicago. John Byrne, Bill Sienkiewicz and others were there. At that time they would sign anything you put in front of them. I was probably 12 years old. My brother would take me and it was awesome. John Byrne had a small crowd around his table. I had to push my way to see what he was drawing. My eyes almost pop out of my head. He drew a naked Scarlet Witch sitting on a chair legs spread open and only wearing her cape. No joke. Coolest thing I ever saw at the convention. Everybody was smiling when he finished and acting like their favorite team won the Super Bowl. Thanks for sharing the clip. Southwest Side Chicago
