If you ever decided to sell, kindly let me know. Thank you
Man--I had to skip this year. The stroker 2.9 was kicking my ass. Would like to have met you. I'm finally getting the itbs onto my car and your videos are a huge help.
Where is this track?
Tri-Cities Raceway in West Richland, Washington
I know its been a while and not sure you are checking the comments anymore, but would you happen to have a base tune to share? I have the exact same setup that I am about to finish installing.
Send me a message on Instagram with your email and I'll dig up a file to send over
How long did this take you mate
Should be able to do it in an afternoon if you're comfortable with knowing what plug is what
Very good video good details and explanation👌👌👌👍👍👍
Thanks for watching!
Where was this meet at?
It's the e30 picnic in Tacoma Washington, typically every year end of June.
@@reichartsworkshop thanks for the reply and info!
hey brother, maybe you can help, I have a bmw E30 but I have swapped the engine to a Nissan SR20 DET my speedo, fuel and temp gauges work but not my tachometer I need to feed a signal to the tachometer do you know from where I can get my signal connection? Is it from the coil signal wire or the injector pulse wire? Ecu wire? I have no idea how to get a signal.. if you have a suggestion Please advise 🙏
Not entirely sure but I would imagine you need to connect the tach wire to the necessary wire on your engine/ecu harness. Here's the link for the m20b27 to m20b25 swap which may help point you in the right direction strictlyeta.net/technical/328i/#installandwiring
Hey! thank you so much for the help! Got it fixed! Found the Ecu from the new engine had a tachometer cable but the signal was different so converted it to mach the E30 dash and now we have rpm gauge working 💪 thanks again for the reply brother 🙏
Wow. Saved me. Your breakdown of how to get it apart and repaired was spot on. Thank you!
Glad to help out!
My floorplan included two of these for workbench space, but I've been waiting for this to go on sale since my garage was kind-of finished and I haven't seen a sale. So my old 26" boxes and some shelving have migrated up from the basement and now I just live with 2' of bench space and it's less than ideal. Hoping once I'm fully moved in, I can get back on track. I will say that Amazon has metal cabinets by "Fedmax" that are the cheapest I've seen, and that's what I'm using for my chemical storage. In case you're looking.
I heard Father's Day was the main sale period for these and I wasn't willing to wait. Cabinets aren't a bad idea, hadn't looked into them yet.
Excited to see where this goes!
In the trash haha. Going to restart and try again eventually.
You will appreciate the usefulness of that tool box.
Loving it already!
Don’t know if you’ve molded big pieces like this before but calculations is critical. Also invest in an aluminum roller, it spreads the resin much better than when doing it with a brush. When spreading resin you don’t want to see any “white spots”. That’s air trapped in the fibers and those needs to be removed for a solid mold. Keep up the good work! I’m sure it’s gonna look good in the end 🤠
Definitely nothing this large before. Thanks for the tips!
Better off putting a e90 booster and master on, the 750il master only works on abs cars and its not ideal, the e90 master and booster is more suited to the e30 brake sizes
I have ABS on mine. Good to know about the e90 booster though. Thanks.
@@reichartsworkshop it's all about sharing info 🤗🤗🤗
Great vid and many thanks. I would just add that this is identical for the Australian Kluger and that around 4:20min into the vid, that if you pull each mob off, you can completely remove that inner board for easy access to the screws. Jobs done. Keep up the great work.
Thanks for the tip! I guess I was too gentle trying to separate and didn't want to break it.
I don't want a Ferrari, or a Porsche. I want an E30. In 1988 and 1989 my then girlfriend used to let me drive her 318i when it was brand new. It wasn't an M3, but it was still fabulous.
Awesome! E30 are fantastic
The primer is a good call, and the single coat IMO is the right call. The paint should cover well in one coat. I can't tell the difference between the wall I hit with 4 coats of primer and the rest that only received one.
I don’t think we cut corners but a lot of what we did was motivated by “it’s a garage, it’s going to take some abuse”
@@reichartsworkshop Yeah I went off the deep end with mudding mine, and I honestly regret it every time I need to hang something to the wall because I can't find the damn studs, and I'm sure I could've spent the time in a better way.
Nice filming, thanks. About to replace mine on my e28…terrible intermittent brake fade (loss of braking).
Hope the new part fixes your issues
Thanks for putting this up! Was able to fix it as you described.
Glad the video was helpful!
Did you check the oil cooler adapter to block o-ring?
Replaced that o-ring and valve last year so I should be good but worth a double-check.
@@reichartsworkshop hmm- for me the worst out was the damn oil pan. The gaskets suck- I’ll try right stuff next time.
👍🏼 great job, nothing more satisfying than upkeeping a good ole truck
Thanks! It's not glamorous work but it needs doing
I’m new to all this, but I’m going through a refresh on an M30B35 in an E34 (new engine seals, head gasket, rebuild engine head and add ITBs). And just having it out of the car on an engine stand makes things much easier and gives peace of mind, because you can see and get to every single part of the engine. It probably takes a bit longer getting it all out of the car, but I reckon time gets saved in the future, because all seals etc are done in one hit rather than bit by bit. But in saying that, I’ll see how I go, I’m yet to get the engine back in the car 😅
Last engine I worked with, I refreshed fully on a stand. Might end up doing that again here. But you're right, the amount of time needed does change a bit between the two.
That's not junk it's a E30 no matter what.
I like the way you think!
cool builds are so much more fun than M3s in my opinion. Wrenching over big budgets any day.
I agree, feels like you have more opportunity to make a standard e30 your own compared to the M3s
Would love to visit the picnic. My car is in Maui. Just an original 89 Cabrio. New paint, interior It’s my daily so not as immaculate clean
Sounds like a good ride to have in Maui!
I've never thought about this before, but I wonder if using the engine bay/windscreen/fender corner as the default place to put any fasteners you remove is a universal E30 thing?
I use that corner on the driver side but the battery tray area on the passenger side. If my tool cart had four wheel steering, I’d roll that around and use it more often.
blunttech tag spotted
Best parts supplier!
nice! just ordered the same catch can for my m20 swapped bmw 2002. You saved a bunch of time finding a can/hose combo that'll work well
It does the trick. I would probably refine this setup by adding some 90 degree elbows from the valve cover to tidy up the path of hoses more.
I know people say to resurface the head of you take it off, has this one ever been resurfaced?
I have not resurfaced it and knew I probably should. This quick job is looking like it'll be repeated eventually.
@@reichartsworkshop I know I'm late and sorry if you knew this but you can check flatness with a good straightedge by lining it up against the head or block and shining a light behind it, and seeing if the light shines through, or try and slip a feeler gauge between the striaghtedge and the head or block. It's not perfect, but you'll be able to see light if the head or block is warped/the feeler will slip between them. Also, a harbor freight breaker bar is a killer investment for like 12$. Cheers man!
@@reichartsworkshop one more thing, if the head or block is warped SLIGHTLY you can surface it at home with something large and very flat (like a glass pane) with sandpaper adhered to one side :) I wouldn't do it if something was badly warped
@@excessivefarce2808 thanks for the tips. I knew a straight edge could check at home but didn't know about using a light to shine at it.
Any improvement?
Hard to tell since I changed so many parts recently. Overall the brakes do feel nice but I'm not sure I would be able to tell a car with an e32 cylinder apart from one with an e30 cylinder.
My truck uses the red Mopar coolant. I buy it on Amazon for $19 Not sure if it's factory coolant or just a previous owner decision.
Hey man do you have a link to where you got the parts?
I don't have a link but I purchased my new evap tube and items from Blunttech
I have one it has m52b28 tu and it has been cluncky since i bought it it was m20 ,I replace every thing even engine😂 and still got the same low speed throttle clutch clunk noise I think now I have to replace the car it self
E30's are never ending projects
Did you have to take the lower radiator hose off or was that just for easier access?
nice video recently drove my e30 325ix 11,565 miles all the way up to alaska from GA these cars are bullet prove if you take care them
Wow! Now that is a road trip!
Thanks for the honest insight on the ITB's. The e30 sounds great.
Sweet, thanks!
Did the itbs come with the pieces for the vacuum lines?
Nope, you have to buy those separate.
@@reichartsworkshop oh man. I just ordered the itbs the other day, thanks to you! Your videos definitely made a lot more comfortable taking on the task of installing them.
nice 🙂
Thank you! Cheers!
I planned to go this year but glad I didn't Because my uncle died from cancer that Thursday before the picnic. Also it's pronounced hart-guh for that name lol. That is an M60 swap in that black car though, the reason people don't do m30s much anymore is because they are so big and heavy and not much power over an m20 you may as well go M50 because it's a better swap
Sorry to hear that. Maybe next year!
Just in time! Thank you for the video!
Thanks for watching
Glad you like my led headlights!
Of course, cool car!
Miss my E30 '87 chrome bumper Lachsilber 316 carb version every day.
Very cool, my current e30 is '87 lachs but with a 325
Holllly! Extremely nice cars. Just M50B25TU swapped mine. This kind of stuff difficult here in Greece. We only get 316's and 318's.
Very cool, it’s fun to hear how other countries are modifying their e30s!
I would absolutely kill to bring mine to something like this in the UK. Looks like a great event, thanks for the coverage!
It’s a fun time. Thanks for watching
Dope asf, I know nothing about this stuff. But I would love to replicate my garagistic “Alpina/zender” spoiler in carbon fiber for my e30.
I’m learning as I go, no clue at the start. I haven’t tried anything that isn’t flat, but that would be a cool part to try.
Is this Missoula?
This was Bozeman at a location they call “The Commons”
You made it look easy. Looking at the brake lines in the car they look daunting
Thank you! Just had to tackle it a piece at a time
Always wondered why you switch from the 2.9 L?
Yeah it developed a pretty bad knock I couldn't figure out and then I moved across the country for school. Getting a working stock motor in was the best option to get the car running again.
@@reichartsworkshop Oh damn, yeah at least you're able to drive it for the time being. Plans to go back to the stroker later down the line?
You didn’t show how to remove the reservoir and the connections and hose. Thanks for nothing.
You don’t know how to remove a hose?
Take a flathead to the red pin connector and pop it up to get the sensor wire off, it’s two 10mm bolts on the top of the reservoir and then you just push it over to where the air box goes
Good job changing it before it broke. Don't know if you ever changed the crank seal before but be careful with the alignment as the bottom timing cover has both the oil pump and crank seal on it. Last time I changed mine I did a double check with a mirror and noticed the crank seal lips were messed up and had to redo it. I used Toyotas sealant where it bolts to the front of the oil pan. Good video sir.
Thanks for the tip. Last time I did the crank seal was with a fresh engine on an engine stand. Much easier than in the car.
