The master's programme lasts two years and includes in-depth research-oriented courses in systems biology and bioinformatics. During the first part of the programme you will study advanced courses in bioinformatics, programming, experimental design and current research topics. In the second part you will continue with advanced courses in multivariate statistics, expression data analysis, network analysis and systems biology. During the third part of the programme you will study next-generation sequencing data analysis, library preparation and quality control. Together, this gives you a solid foundation in research methodologies used in bioinformatics and systems biology!

The entry requirement is a Bachelor’s degree (equivalent to a Swedish Bachelor’s Degree) in molecular biology, biomedicine or computer science. A further requirement is proof of skills in English equivalent of studies at upper secondary level in Sweden, known as English course 6. This is normally demonstrated by means of an internationally recognized test, e.g. IELTS or TOEFL or the equivalent. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide individual evaluations regarding eligibility in advance. In Sweden we have a centralized University Admissions authority, this means that all admission to our programmes must be submitted through University Admissions. They also assess all applications. We recommend you apply and submit your documents to get an assessment of your qualifications. The deadline to apply is on August 15th. No, unfortunately not. The admission period for international students start early! The admission results for the autumn 2023 were announced in early April 2023. For the upcoming autumn 2024 intake, applications will open in mid-October 2023, with studies commencing in August 2024. Hello Daniel, The Bioinformatics Master’s is a cross-disciplinary programme which combines biology with IT tools derived from the field of computer science. You will have the opportunity to process, organise and analyse large biological data sets, which will enable you to contribute to the understanding of (for example) disease progression and how patients respond to medical treatments.
