Flying now on ETHOS
A maiden run with the B2 on Ethos - a bigger radio to manhandle at launch - lets see how it all goes ...

Apart from the muscle memory for switch positions I am getting used to the bigger radio and it is growing on me for prop flying ...

getting used to the breezy conditions and getting some thermal action
That music choice with your vario chirping away just doesn't get old. I maidened my very first own 1.5m foamcore DLG a week ago. This monday, I broke the 1 hour mark on a gently sloaped meadow in front of a treeline where the wind created a nice subtle updraft. I'm looking forward getting my hands onto a used CFK model, too. DLG virus got me, I had the whole thing in the back of my mind for a longer time, but over the course of this winter, I went in taking the first real steps into the RC hobby 🤩
that's Awesome! DLGs are heaps of fun and yes, very addictive - they do slope well ... time to hit the park for some thermal training!
The V-tails setup (programming) is similar to the ailerons? I would take it on my new motor glider. If I see well this glider has fix V-tails.
V tail mixing is very easy - yes similar to ailerons - let me know if you need any help!
@@bracesport Thank you!
no dihedral probably doesn't help either
I think am flying it like a DLG and that is not helping either..
What kind of servos Phil? Even the smallest double centering would create big problems here I’d think?
@@banko444 I am using metal geared King C507 HV servos - they seem pretty good..
Nice flying, I love my BAMF2 as well, amazing glider.
I have just changed it to ETHOS from OPEN TX so the next outing will be a re maiden of sorts!
What radio do you use?
I use FRsky gear - OpenTx X-lites for DLG and an Ethos X18SE for props and slopers.
So happy with 50m launches!
The output of my video from Final Cut Pro is so much clearer than the published TH-cam video so there has got to be better settings for that..
I think the 4K footage from the camera is superior - I just need to experiment with camera zoom some more and then look at the best settings for TH-cam - these little cameras do not like to focus at 50-100m on a small flying craft!
looking forward to the v tai flying
wow
I Want to try build it !!!!!!
and unt the wether didnt change yet ? 🙂
Absolutely quality! Top job
I fixed the ESC this morning so we are set for the next maiden.
@@bracesport 🤩
Nice first flights Phil!
thanks! it wasn't the best maiden with an ESC issue preventing a good launch! nevertheless, I think it will fly!
I also think the stabilisation mode is making it grainy when the glider is further away - so some experimentation is required there too.
the colour profile is 'D Cinelike' and in theory needs colour correction so that will be the next step with the Action 3
oh damn
looking forward to the flight
is it a DLG? wonder how the V tail will do looks sleek from the back edit: oh I see the motor in the front
it is an F5K (motor powered) DLG with polyhedral wing and V tail - flies well!
Nice, I didn't see your newest addition to the hangar 3 weeks ago 😄 Besides getting into cheap DLGs for training outside I'm also getting my hands onto a 2m foamwing Phoenix V2. Going for a small 3s 1550 in the hopes it provides better thermaling capabilities. For windy slope soaring i might need a lot of ballast. 😄 Really looking forward to fly something with more wingspan 🤩
yes - I have enjoyed the bigger wing span on the Ranger - I think the Pheonix2.0 would be great - my brother in law has a Phoenix 1.6 and I am wondering if the wings are interchangeable...
@@bracesportthey are (at least within the same length class), hobbyking sells a set of spare wings which fit both 2m models! 👌i wonder if i could also swap to a set of 2400mm wings later 😃
so i just checked, andrew newton mentions it in his phoenix 2400 unboxing video: the 2400 wings don't fit on the phoenix 2000 v2 fuselage because they have a 23cm chord compared to 20cm chord on the 2000mm version. might be a similar problem when trying to put your 2000mm ranger wings on the phoenix 1600.. but not sure.
Really nice glider!
i think my tail is a bit twitchy - i may add elevator rates..
My dream is a 1.5m factory DLG. Very nice Phil!
very cool!
the video quality was a bit off on the day - I think I need to review my camera..
great plane, 👍
soon to maiden it!
Lovely glider! Nice easy take off!
I managed to thermal it the other day - 400g to +100m!
@@bracesport Wow, I am glad to hear this nice result! Bravo Phil, your motorized glider is really cool. I like its V-tail. I would like to modify my one for better performance.
@@goldenfish77 I always liked the V tail design! it is different from the hand launched DLG but it flies well in different conditions - the motor is a little under powered, but gets the job done!
How do I stop buying RC stuff? I have too many planes to fly, but I still want more... any advice?
its a sickness..;[
Phil......what is the w/s & auw weight for this e-dlg you designed and built?
the P3 is 1.5m and 400g - my new P4 is also 1.5m but weighs 320g - both are E-DLG..
You can likely set a brake on the ESC, so you dont need a folding prop. Great video work!
yes I need to dig into the settings. I am normally a no motor guy, so I am learning about ESCs!
great flying ..~~! Looks happy ..with your son ..
Are you skying that bird out with thermals or just wind shear? That's impressive!
Never mind its motor assisted... lol! 😂
I think there is wind shear surfing as the temp was not great - also at my park the surrounding landscape make everything turbulent..
Hit the like button but it still says zero?
files ??
waiting for the weather to allow a maiden!
Great piano
Lovely!
Thanks Mike - hopefully we will fly again over this easter weekend..
Looking forward to seeing it fly
What variometer are you using? Great flights for an overcast day!
I use frsky gear GRX6 and GRX8
@@bracesport great I just received my FrSky transmitter and the td gr8. Glad I did, just gotta bind ect..
@@garychaney5484 what TX are you using?
This v tail it's a pure beauty ! wow ! 💙👍
thank you - lets see how the maiden goes!
Hope for a next video ! ✈@@bracesport
awesome!
thank you - it has been a labour of love!
Impressive!
thank you Antonis! the weight target for sub 300g was blown at 340g! nevertheless I flew at 400g the other day and it was ok!
Wow! Masterpiece!
hi my friend - time to get this baby in the air!
super interesting. this thing looks so clean. though i´m curious on how much effect the canopybrake has at the low flightspeeds.
hopefully it will work for landing.. !
Sometimes the lift is just not enough, especially when the wind breaks up any organized thermals. Is that a BAMF wing and fuse?
Hi Kirk - Yes it is a BAMF wing modified to polyhedral - the fuselage is custom made by me - I use 3D printed split moulds..
Don’t ya just luv this…..Watching you both is teaching ME how to fly…..what DLG glider is this??
Hi David this is a Armsoar BAMF-1, she is getting a bit long in the tooth, but is still one of my favourite gliders to fly.
Dont forget to let it drift downwind with the thermal ;)
yeesh - you are so right - again!
Cool job! I am waiting for its test flights.
not far away now - I hope to cover the wings soon - everything else is ready to go
looks crazy , when flight ?
getting closer - there will be video!
So awesome that you're sharing this moment with your kiddo
thank you - and yes, it is great to see him into it - weather has been too windy lately!
That’s a good looking build. You’ve combined the different materials very nicely. I hope you do a clear covering. 😀
transparent blue - tails already look nice!
Wiggle Waggle 🗿
I live in Australia. I bought myself a Vladimir models ELF DLG 3 yrs back thinking i would learn to DLG. Have the servos and LiPo battery ect, but have yet to put it together. This video is the most recent DLG video i have seen. Most are like 2-8 years old and here i was thinking DLG/F3k was dying apart from the comps that are held over seas. Nice to see some fresh DLG flying.
Hi John - I would be itching to put it together! they are so much fun!
