I know nobody asked, I did not buy Being There. I had some bad experiences with double cds in high school, most notably the Forrest Gump soundtrack. NEVER would both CDs be found in the case. Plus, I was not that into A.M. But then I saw this. I was never the same.
Intro sux, matching a base drum with a snare is so stupid or misleading.
This is a cherished relic / time capsule. Thanks for posting!
Thank you.😊

21:20 I was Jay's best friend for 8 years during high School and four years at U of I. We. Lived tigether for 4 years at U of I in Champaign. We played together in a horrible cover band called the rebel ducks in Champaign. Jay was always an immensely talented musician. But he was also a passive aggressive asshole. That's what it takes to make it anywhere. I was useless and untalented. Jay was brilliant, but he had a very low voice, which was exacerbated by the fact that he became a chronic smoker. During our fourth year of living together one day there was a knock on the door and I opened it and let Leroy in. And a bond was formed between them. I was outclassed by both of them. Eventually Jay joined Wilco, and a couple of years later he got Leroy into Wilco. What disturbs me is that years later during Yankee hotel foxtrot, in the I am trying to break your heart documentary, Leroy dissed Jay, saying that their friendship had run its course. That was a really cold thing to say considering Jay got Leroy into Wilco.
In every single interview that they’re together after the rerelease of stop making sense, they have been sat in the exact same arrangement it always goes David, Jerry, Chris, Tina (we all know why)
Good God I miss the 90’s!
50:14
Ill take any Wilco era or lineup
Philip Seymour Hoffman as Jay Bennett
My dear hubby LARRY LOEWINGER recorded BOTH DAVID & SPIKE in the 1990’s!!
Put the ego's and shit aside, you already said it: Stop making sense.. Go out with a 💥🔥!
Put the shit aside. Needs to be a Talking Heads world tour before it's all too late. World stadiums. Total sell out. £300k a ticket, everyone goes home happy. You owe us that much FFS. David we've had quite enough of Staying Hungry....we need fed!
Awkward, boring, forced, and just not interesting at all.
Love that jerry named my 2 favs lol
This would be great if only they have chosen someone better than Spike Lee to make the questions, goddamn, he just makes terrible questions, and most of them aren't even questions even. Just stupid, whoever made this choice, it's just so dumb.
I saw this tour in 1983 at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. I saw the film twice this last weekend. What an amazing and joyful time!! People were up dancing in the movie theater!
Thank you so much for recording this! I really wanted to go to see this in a theater but I live far away from any theater that was playing this.
Is there an end of rehashing what's been done 30-40 years ago?
Never thought spike lee would be a Talking Heads fan
Spike Lee is the world's worst interviewer.
Spike is ridiculous. of all people to host how did he get picked???
I saw that concert tour in Atlanta at the Fox Theater and it really blew my mind. I was thrilled, but not surprised when I saw they'd made a film of it. BTW, the show in Atlanta was better than the one on the film. They played the songs slower in the Big A, not so sped up, like on the soundtrack. And the crowd, wow, Talking Heads crowds were always crazy, from all walks, and some with costumery, like the wildest theater groups from NYC and all so fun, so fun. Just really the time of my life. The place was surreal to say the very least. It was, without a doubt, the pinnacle of their careers, and certainly the best show I've ever seen. At the end of the show, they rolled a big bass drum case out on stage, plopped it down, and out sprung some guy, who stood up waving around at everyone. I still don't know who it was, maybe Demme, or Belew, or who knows? But it was festive!
Literally Talking Heads
Being Dumbarton parentage i love it every time i see Byrne! (and the band of course)
Tina is still bitter over the band's breakup. She looks pained to be there.
Thank you for posting this. I heard about it, and wanted to be there, now I have been! And what a great experience seeing this movie!!!!!!!!
I love when Byrne won't reunite with them, and does Talking Head Songs on all his live ventures he persues...
Correct me if I"m wrong, but there were only a few more shows played after this. I don't believe they ever toured for the proceeding albums.
Having read through all of the bickering here, and also listening to this interview, it reminds me of my time in my own band. Bass-ically, I would be sitting where Tina is sitting, lol. I'm trying to distill this down into just a few words, as if it was displayed on the ticker-tape in Times Square: "Hi maintenance relations band who wrote and played some very good music gets its own group therapy session, moderated by World Wrestling Federation CEO, Spike Lee"
american art's role models of the 80s. i've been fortunate to speak with a few who played #CBGB's
Oh this is really emotionally unsatisfying and not very informative. Tension thick as pea soup and Spike Lee is not really holding it together very well. I always believe they should get together again even though people say , why should they go back, why go back? sometimes you got to do things that are uncomfortable for you in order to show gratitude to the fans. Without the fans they wouldn't have houses and cars and memories of joy and not this movie. Do something for the fans I always said to myself, even if it makes you unhappy. But after seeing this I wouldn't ask them to be in the same room together ever again. Really uncomfortable and just a really vacuous interview overall.
I wish they'd apply the new clean-up technology to the Rome 1980 show (which is on TH-cam). That show is more exciting than Stop Making Sense, but obviously not as well filmed.
Spike made a car crash of that interview
A lot of tension there
Sorry. My friends and I bought into Tina Weymouth. She was a hero for us.
What's the deal with Tina? She looks out of it.
SO nice to see them ALL together !
David, in the past 20 years, seems less weird and LESS guarded. Remember how he used to be? Happy that they will never do a reunion tour . Keep the past SACRED.
I think the live version of Girlfriend Is Better sounds better than the studio.
Agreed. And Slippery People x1000
So let’s get the most uninformed individual here. Spike Lee? Perfect.
The GREAT Spike Lee. Give it up!
David told everyone else in the band to dress in T-shirts and jeans. David came out in the the big suit.
If you’ve read his book how music works, they actually spoke about wearing very similar outfits throughout the concert (just the grey outfits) and the story is told through david since he is literally the frontman so thats why his outfit changes.
Yes I have read that book. I have also read "Remain In Love" in which Chris Frantz states this David Byrne ploy. @@gilly_5123
Why use Spike Lee for this. Respectfully, he is not the right man for the job
Most likely because he directed David’s film version of American Utopia.
Him and David Byrne have been friends for ages
Damn Spike, ENOUGH with the "Give it up for..." b.s. Cringe.
Spike Lee is annoying as fuck.
Great to see them back together, Tina seems a bit uncomfortable to be there but the other three look to be in good spirits.
Maybe with her being an introvert
So nothing's changed there in 40 years.
Thank you for posting. I could of done a better job than Spike.
I like the way Spike handled this interview. I can tell he's a Talking Heads fan for sure. My fav album of theirs is Fear Of Music. it would be great to see this film in IMax format, the sound must be unreal
must be joking
Mine too!
One of my favorite all time bands, sadly I never got to see them live so this movie is special to me.
A-hole; ME. I had a few times to see them in the 1980s and - always had an excuse why I could not go. A friend of mine who lives in NYC- dated a guy that knew them and one night - he took her to a recording session ! I THINK it was for the final album OR the one right before it.
I wish I'd seen them as well! Especially in early CBGB's days!
